'It was a bit disorienting - we weren't hearing what we expected to hear': Nasa reveals the first unsettling sounds of the void between Saturn and its rings

On April 26 the Cassini spacecraft made its first plunge through a gap between Saturn and its rings

Its sensors detected delicate waves in the environment that would usually be hidden by dust particles

That was then transformed into eerie space 'music' of whistles, squawks and wind-like roars

The lack of dust baffled ring scientists, but means that most of the remaining dives will go easier

On Tuesday Cassini began the second of its 22 dives to collect new samples and photos of Saturn

Cassini's mission will officially terminate on September 15 in a planned 'death dive' into the planet
