CONTROVERSIAL preacher Dr Zakir Naik has been granted citizenship by King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia to prevent his arrest by Interpol, The Middle East Monitor reported yesterday.

Zakir is wanted in India for alleged terrorism-financing and money laundering and authorities there are moving to revoke his passport and to have Interpol issue a red corner notice (RCN).

Interpol's RCN is akin to an international arrest warrant.

The Malaysian government granted permanent resident status to Zakir five years ago, a move which ruffled feathers among non-Muslims. – May 20, 2017.
