The Deadline For E-Filing Has Been Extended To May 15

Taxpayers filing their tax returns for 2016 have been given extra time by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). Its public relations officer Masrun Maslim said the new deadline is May 15.

“This extension is only open to those submitting their returns through the e-filing system,” he told theSun.

He said the extension will only be applicable to those filling up the BE form, namely for individual taxpayers who did not have income from business.

“The e-filing is easier, accurate and safe. The tax calculation will be more accurate and data security is more secured.

“The online system will also reduce the risk of losing the tax form during the delivery process,” he said.

He added that the IRB had received a total of 1.78 million BE forms through e-filing, as compared to 1.68 million forms during the same period last year, an increase of 5.62%.

The counters would be open in all IRB branches from 9am to 5pm in the peninsular, and from 8am to 4pm in Sabah and Sarawak.

The public can access the IRB’s official website www.hasil.gov.my for more information.
