JOHOR BARU: An hour-long heavy downpour today brought flash floods to at least five areas in the city this late evening.

The heavy rain which started at about 7pm inundated major roads such as Jalan Rosmerah Utama, Jalan Serampang, Jalan Bakawali 27, Jalan Wong Ah Fook and the Mount Austin area.

Floodwaters gradually receded by 10pm.

Johor Civil Defence Force director Colonel Mat Zin Bujang said although some areas were hit by flash floods, the agency did not receive any report of individuals in life-threatening situations or damage to any property.

“There is no immediate need for flood relief centres to be opened at this moment,” he said.
