MIC rep challenges Ramasamy to debate on
MIC’s contributions
My comments are below in blue after this article
Mathuraiveran Marimuthu
Prof Ramasamy often speaks
volume as if he has contributed significantly in providing socially and in
economic empowerment of the Indian community which to date remains only a
political rhetoric.
What has he done for the
Indian Community as a whole and for the Indians in Penang since assuming office
as the Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang ?
On the contrary, The
Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has 70 years of history to its credit. MIC was
formed on the same year as UMNO in 1946 to champion for the Indian cause and
rights. MIC’s Development Plans are discussed and implementedthrough the BN led
Government machinery and not as a “Slave-like“ attitude of MIC leaders as
claimed by Golden Chariot Ramasamy.
Todate, MIC has many
achievements to speak about unlike the Ramasamy’s DAP which has survived
through political mileage by only criticizing and condemning the BN government
and MIC to continue its political existence !.
Ramasamy is more fearful of
his position than coming up with concrete plan and getting it approved by the
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for implementation.
MIC on the other hand has many achievements to speak about in the areas of
EDUCATION, SOCIO ECONOMIC initiatives,TEMPLES and Welfare for the community to
name a few.
EDUCATION
The establishment of Maju
Institute of Educational Development (MIED) paved the way for MIC’s role in
fulfilling the educational needs of Indian students to pursue their educational
dreams through MIED’s financial assistance. Thousands of Indian student are
able to pursue their education from tertiary up to Masters level courses. The
establishment of TAFE college in 1980’s and the subsequent establishment of the
state of the art AIMST University provided access for many youths to pursue
courses in Medicine, Engineering, Business etc. No other Indian political party
in Malaysia have provided for the educational advancement of its community in
such an organized manner .
The establishment of Yayasan
Manickvasagam which also provides financial assistance will further compliment
the work of MIED.
TAMIL
SCHOOLS
MIC has continuously champion
the Tamil schools to protect the institution of Tamil language and culture, viz
a viz the Tamil community being the largest segment of the Indian community in
the country.
To date there are 524 Tamil
School of which 156 is fully aided Tamil school while the rest are partially
aided. Six (6) more schools are being added to meet the additional requirements
to compliment the existing schools. Since assuming office in 2009, Prime Minister
Dato Sri’ Najib Tun Razak has channeled over RM800 million to the development
of the infrastructure of Tamil Schools.
MIC has played a role of
pushing for the reform in the infrastructure of Tamil school and has
continuously monitored the progress of Tamil Schools.
SOCIO
ECONOMIC INITIATIVES
Prime Minister Dato Sri’
Najib Tun Razak has continued to address the needs of the Indian community with
the establishment of SEED, SEDIC, SITF and PTST which takes care of funding of
micro enterprises and SMEs, funding for the advancement programmes through NGOs
and Skill Training, enabling the proper documentation of birth and citizenship
documentation and monitoring of Tamil Schools. These are special purpose
outfits under the Prime Minister’s Department. These are ideas that germinated
out of the Cabinet Committee for Indian Affairs which is chaired by the PM,
participated by MIC leaders in the government and others appointed by PM into
the Committee.
These are concrete enablers
to resolve issues and to empower the community.
The soon to be launched
Indian Community Blue Print targeted in the first quarter of the year is a
consensus driven initiative to transform the Indian Community as a “developed
community” in line with the nations mission of becoming a developed country by
2020. MIC President and the CWC members are participants of this initiatives
through various roundtable discussions and meetings.
Can Ramasamy at least outline
his development plan for the Indians in Penang ?
TEMPLES
To instill high moral values
and to eradicate social ills among the Indians MIC is continuously helping in
the funding of Temples through MIC President and the Prime Minister.
WELFARE
To assist the needy in health
care and other cases of emergency in the state of distress the President of MIC
assist them through the MIC structure on a continuous basis and quarterly
funding is disbursed.
MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S
Subramaniam after assuming office have initiated a 11 point plan to drive the
community in the next year with the initiatives centered around the youths, the
women, college and university students and the business community.
The MIC President while
cognizant of the development in the electronic medium as a way of business of
the future has urged the community to translate brick and mortar business into
online businesses.
Little did Ramasamy realise
that Muruku, Aachi Muruku, Vadai and Aartheresam has become Malaysian
delicacies and reaches a wider non Indian market. Hence, it is more effective
to be marketed via the electronic commerce platform than the traditional
medium.
The MIC President have been
concentrating on unification of the smaller indian groups through various
festival programmesand initiatives and at the same time strengthening the
party.
Ramasamy, you on the other
hand is focusing on breaking up the Tamil community through your Golden
Chariot. It is a common knowledge that the Chettiar community has a tradition
of organizing the Penang Waterfall Temple Thaipusam Festival over the last 100
years with their Silver Chariot. So why rock the boat and break up the Tamils ?
Deputy Minister of Youth and
Sports, Datuk Saravanan’s foray into agro and agro related business via NAAM is
a bold and brave move to empower Indian youths and others to increase their
disposal income as well as to reduce their involvement in social ills.
NAAM’s Community reach Mesra
Programme has reached over 111,000 participants over the 2014/2015 while its
agro chili planting and skill training programmes has yielded results by
empowering 5385 participants as at to date encompassing both the youth and
women.
The Skill Training by NAAM
covers a wide range from electronics, computer skills, cake baking, sewing
skills covering youth and women from the low income to middle income groups.
Does Ramasamy understand the
economics of agro and agro related business ? Malaysia imports over RM8 billion
of agriculture products annually from overseas. The cultivation of Agriculture
produce will reduce Malaysia’s dependence on foreign imports and empower Indian
youths.
MIC is a structured party
with branches, division, state and national organisation. The party is able to
engage the bottom 40, the middle 40 and Top 20 Indians with various programmes
and initiatives. The Party is made of capable and experience leaders with on
the ground experience and consist of professionals who are lawyers, accountants
and others. This group is capable of translating MIC’s Development Plans into
actions to continuously support the MIC President.
SO RAMASAMY STOP THE DESKTOP
RESEARCH KIND OF ASSESSMENT AND THE BLAME GAME. COME TAKE ON ME. LET’S DEBATE
ON WHAT MIC HAS DONE FOR THE INDIAN COMMUNITY AND WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR
CONTRIBUTION?

The
above statement from an MIC leader on the achievements of MIC in 70 years of
its existence
1. Education
.Your
wrong here as MCA established the TAR and UTAR well before MIC and UMNO by
default thru been part of the ruling coalition formed Mara Junior colleges ITM
and later UTM for the Bumiputras using government funds and also used
Government funds to funds the education of the Bumiputras and where else MIC been
part of the ruling coalition insisted that funds for education from the
government to be channeled thru MIC education arm . The funds received were
used to educate the well-connected MIC members children’s education with no accountability,
Mathuraiveran must also benefitted from this too.
The
Indians professionals the doctors lawyers engineers and other have been educated
by their parents hard earn money. If is
true that MIC were responsible for the Indian professionals education , please
publish a detail accounts of how much money was received and spend on
educations , the names of the students who received scholarships . Only then the
Indian public can see if all the funds were used for the intended students and
not for the well off and well-connected students of MIC leaders and also funds diverted
to the pockets of the MIC leaders.
Please
show detail proof that the Funds received from the government was used for the
intended purpose and from there can debate the achievements of MIC in educating
the Malaysian Indians. N How many scholarships were given to Indians of poor
parents and from the rubber and oil palm estates.
2.
Tamil Schools
and why only Tamil schools as MIC is an Indian based
party with different races from the Indian sub-continent and their marketability
in a Chines dominated private sector and why only primary schools and no
secondary Tamils schools or Tamil language based colleges. The argument is that
they will not be marketable when they graduate and then why waste6 years of
studying Tamil which can be done at home speaking and learning to write in
Tamils from the parents and siblings or was this for the Tamil pride and also
to keep the estate Indian population literate, poor and a vote bank for MIC.
Tamil school students on leaving Tamil primary education and have to do one
year in a remove class to be able to enroll in form one in public National type
secondary schools. 6 years in Tamil school does not give students automatic enrollment
to form 1 in public National type secondary schools? So please tell me what is purpose of Tamil schools if the primary
education cannot be used in Secondary schools.
3. SOCIO
ECONOMIC INITIATIVES
This is interesting as there is no MIC business success and
Maika was used by MIC to fool the Poor Indians to invest their life savings
into Maika, which siphon the money and made Maika defund and left the poor investors
holding worthless shares in Maika and also the Telekom shares which the
government injected into Maika were diverted into the private accounts of the
MIC leaders
The success stories are all on the Indian individual’s
own initiative i.e. by commercializing the family recipes, opening up restaurants
without help from MIC and other then the
food business do not see much Indian presence in the private sector.
If you are talk about AK as he was a creation of the rent
seekers from UMNO as a trust for their ill-gotten money
4.
Welfare for Indians is non-existence and only have to
look and the poor in estates , slums and single parents who have to fend for
themselves and no National central independent welfare to cater for the poor Indians
or welfare homes for the orphans and aged run by MIC but run by individual
persons initiative with their own resources
Conclusion is an Indian if he is not a MIC member and
also well-connected in MIC , then he or she left to his own initiative to
succeed or fail in life
