Why the delay in sex offenders registry, asks DAP

| February 3, 2017

Selangor DAP's Yeo Bee Yin reminds 3 Cabinet members on promises made since May 2015 after story about Malaysian student convicted in UK for child porn came to light.

PETALING JAYA: Three Cabinet members were called out by Selangor DAP assemblywoman Yeo Bee Yin for the government’s lack of action and delay on the issue of the sex offenders registry.

The urgency of the matter was stressed by Yeo who highlighted the news of the impending return of convicted serial rapist Selva Kumar Subbiah from Canada after serving his 24 year jail sentence.

“He was suspected of violating as many as 1,000 women and girls and was described as ‘the worst offender with the highest risk ever’ by the chairman of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada at a hearing after Selva’s release last Sunday.

“Upon the breaking of the news, many women’s groups had once again urged Putrajaya to establish a proper sex offender registry, the purpose of which is to ensure proper monitoring of sex offenders,” Yeo said, adding that Putrajaya must give a time frame as to when a proper sex offenders registry can be established.

Yeo, who is also the social media strategist for DAP, said the call for a sex offenders registry had been made as far back as May 2015 when the story broke about a Malaysian student convicted in the United Kingdom for possession of child pornography.

“Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri agreed with the call for such a registry after the public had been outraged over convicted student Nur Fitri Azmeer Nordin, who owned over 30,000 videos and photographs of child pornography, possibly returning to Malaysia,” Yeo said, lamenting the fact there had been no follow-up since by the minister.

Yeo also reminded Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim that it has been six months since the Child Act Amendment 2016 was gazetted.

This amendment includes the setting up of a child registry that contains records of convicts who committed crimes against children, including sexual crimes.

“We read yesterday that her ministry is meeting with the police to finalise the child sex offenders registry ‘very soon’.

“It has been six months since the law was gazetted, we would really like to know how soon is her ‘very soon’?”

The Sun reported last November that Rohani had said the sex offenders registry was expected to be ready by the end of last year.

Rohani said the child registry, to be placed under the social welfare department, would contain information on offenders for crimes including sexual offences, under any written laws where a child had been the victim.

“But the register is confidential and will not be made accessible to the public. The register not only contains information on convicts who have undergone their punishments, but also information on victims, whose identities must be protected,” Rohani had been quoted as saying.

Yeo also criticised Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan who had said there were concerns the sex offender registry would infringe on the rights of the sex offenders.

“We would like to remind the minister that the rights of women and girls in Malaysia for a safe environment is equally if not more important than the rights of the sex offenders.”

She added it was unacceptable that after so many years of “studying about the matter”, Putrajaya still doesn’t seem to have a clue as to how to have a proper sex offender registry, that takes into account human rights and recidivism.

“We call for quick action from the three Cabinet members – Nancy, Rohani and Nur Jazlan to get their act together and have the sex offenders registry established once and for all.”

If sex offenders’ registry is setup then have to all add in registry most of the ruling BN leaders present and past. No can do as it will embarrass them

PPBM-PAS talks hit stalemate, says Guan Eng

PPBM-PAS talks hit stalemate, says Guan Eng

| February 3, 2017

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng says there are internal problems in PAS which has scuppered the talks.

GEORGE TOWN: The talks between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and PAS appear to have hit a stalemate and this could be because of disagreements in the Islamist party’s top leadership, said Lim Guan Eng.

Lim, who is the DAP secretary-general, said PPBM deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir’s explanation on the talks indicated a likely stalemate.

“He (Mukhriz) explained to me about what happened, but when I saw him, he seemed a bit confused about PAS’ stand on things,” Lim told reporters during a visit to Kuantan Road here today.

Lim said Mukhriz’s confusion is understandable, as it was likely caused by disagreement between PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

“When I read the BN newspapers today, I understand the situation better. It appears the president and his deputy have clashed on the their thoughts on the matter.

“But I am sure he (Mukhriz) will continue with his discussions,” Lim said.

Asked if the PPBM-PAS talks would work out, he said: “Best you ask PPBM on this.”

He added that DAP’s stand on PAS remains the same – there was no space to work with the Islamic party.

“We have given our views as a member of Pakatan Harapan (on PAS cooperation). We were not told about it before, but only read about the talks in newspapers,” he said, adding that PPBM and Pakatan Harapan would hold talks on Feb 7 to clear the air on the matter.

PAS wants to have the cake and eat it also. PAS is already a spent force and even the Malays are shying away from the party due to it extreme religious agenda to garner the rural Malay votes to stay relevant. I think the Malays have enough of PAS and come GE14 it will only be a byword and nothing else a foot note in history.

 Someone sent me this :

MO1's Bombardier Jet Bought By JoLo With Money Stolen From Malaysia

JET GLOBAL 5000 N689WM HAS BEEN IN A HANGAR IN SINGAPORE SELETAR AIRPORT WITH A RED NOTICE PASTED ON IT'S DOOR FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS AND COUNTING.
ONE BOMBARDIER GLOBAL 5000 JET AIRCRAFT, BEARING MANUFACTURER'S SERIAL NUMBER 9265 AND REGISTRATION NUMBER N689WM, ITS TOOLS AND APPURTENANCES, AND AIRCRAFT LOGBOOKS

The Unites States of America brings this complaint against the above-captioned assets and alleges as follows : PERSONS AND ENTITIES

1. The plaintiff is the United States of America.
2. The defendant in this action is one Bombardier Global 5000 Jet Aircraft (hereinafter, the "Defendant Asset"), more particularly described in Attachment A.
3. The Defendant Asset is titled in the name of Wyton Aviation (Global 5000).

In 2010, Jo Lo used funds traceable to the $700 million wire transfer from 1MDB to the Good Star Account to acquire the BOMBARDIER JET, a Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft bearing manufacturer serial number 9265 and registration number N689WM, with two Rolls Royce engines bearing manufacturer's serial numbers 12487 and 12488, for approximately US$35,371,335.

The above plane, a Jet Global 5000, N689WM is in a hangar in Singapore Seletar Airport with a "Red Notice" pasted on the Jet door.

This is one of the assets that the US Department of Justice is after.

The Malaysian Government is NOT doing anything to get back that Jet bought with OUR 1MDB money.
It is the United States Department of Justice that is trying to recover the billions of dollars fraudulently diverted from 1MDB by multiple individuals including public officials and their associates

...of which the above Jet is but one of the assets purchased with OUR 1MDB money

...and the United States Department of Justice is doing it on behalf of the Malaysian Rakyat!

What is the Umno led Barisan National Government doing about it?

And who is the numero uno of these Public Officials mentioned by the United States Department of Justice in their legal papers served upon those multiple individuals and public officials?

My comments : I just received this today. They say that some announcements are expected in Singapore soon. Tick tock, tick tock.

The mortal wound has already been inflicted. It is now death by a thousand cuts. Slowly but surely. Painfully too.

Joke of the month - MIC rep challenges Ramasamy to debate on MIC’s contributions

MIC rep challenges Ramasamy to debate on MIC’s contributions

My comments are below in blue after this article

                                                      Mathuraiveran Marimuthu

Prof Ramasamy often speaks volume as if he has contributed significantly in providing socially and in economic empowerment of the Indian community which to date remains only a political rhetoric.

What has he done for the Indian Community as a whole and for the Indians in Penang since assuming office as the Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang ?

On the contrary, The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has 70 years of history to its credit. MIC was formed on the same year as UMNO in 1946 to champion for the Indian cause and rights. MIC’s Development Plans are discussed and implementedthrough the BN led Government machinery and not as a “Slave-like“ attitude of MIC leaders as claimed by Golden Chariot Ramasamy.

Todate, MIC has many achievements to speak about unlike the Ramasamy’s DAP which has survived through political mileage by only criticizing and condemning the BN government and MIC to continue its political existence !.

Ramasamy is more fearful of his position than coming up with concrete plan and getting it approved by the Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for implementation.
MIC on the other hand has many achievements to speak about in the areas of EDUCATION, SOCIO ECONOMIC initiatives,TEMPLES and Welfare for the community to name a few.

EDUCATION

The establishment of Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) paved the way for MIC’s role in fulfilling the educational needs of Indian students to pursue their educational dreams through MIED’s financial assistance. Thousands of Indian student are able to pursue their education from tertiary up to Masters level courses. The establishment of TAFE college in 1980’s and the subsequent establishment of the state of the art AIMST University provided access for many youths to pursue courses in Medicine, Engineering, Business etc. No other Indian political party in Malaysia have provided for the educational advancement of its community in such an organized manner .

The establishment of Yayasan Manickvasagam which also provides financial assistance will further compliment the work of MIED.

TAMIL SCHOOLS

MIC has continuously champion the Tamil schools to protect the institution of Tamil language and culture, viz a viz the Tamil community being the largest segment of the Indian community in the country.

To date there are 524 Tamil School of which 156 is fully aided Tamil school while the rest are partially aided. Six (6) more schools are being added to meet the additional requirements to compliment the existing schools. Since assuming office in 2009, Prime Minister Dato Sri’ Najib Tun Razak has channeled over RM800 million to the development of the infrastructure of Tamil Schools.

MIC has played a role of pushing for the reform in the infrastructure of Tamil school and has continuously monitored the progress of Tamil Schools.

SOCIO ECONOMIC INITIATIVES

Prime Minister Dato Sri’ Najib Tun Razak has continued to address the needs of the Indian community with the establishment of SEED, SEDIC, SITF and PTST which takes care of funding of micro enterprises and SMEs, funding for the advancement programmes through NGOs and Skill Training, enabling the proper documentation of birth and citizenship documentation and monitoring of Tamil Schools. These are special purpose outfits under the Prime Minister’s Department. These are ideas that germinated out of the Cabinet Committee for Indian Affairs which is chaired by the PM, participated by MIC leaders in the government and others appointed by PM into the Committee.

These are concrete enablers to resolve issues and to empower the community.

The soon to be launched Indian Community Blue Print targeted in the first quarter of the year is a consensus driven initiative to transform the Indian Community as a “developed community” in line with the nations mission of becoming a developed country by 2020. MIC President and the CWC members are participants of this initiatives through various roundtable discussions and meetings.

Can Ramasamy at least outline his development plan for the Indians in Penang ?

TEMPLES

To instill high moral values and to eradicate social ills among the Indians MIC is continuously helping in the funding of Temples through MIC President and the Prime Minister.

WELFARE

To assist the needy in health care and other cases of emergency in the state of distress the President of MIC assist them through the MIC structure on a continuous basis and quarterly funding is disbursed.

MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam after assuming office have initiated a 11 point plan to drive the community in the next year with the initiatives centered around the youths, the women, college and university students and the business community.

The MIC President while cognizant of the development in the electronic medium as a way of business of the future has urged the community to translate brick and mortar business into online businesses.

Little did Ramasamy realise that Muruku, Aachi Muruku, Vadai and Aartheresam has become Malaysian delicacies and reaches a wider non Indian market. Hence, it is more effective to be marketed via the electronic commerce platform than the traditional medium.

The MIC President have been concentrating on unification of the smaller indian groups through various festival programmesand initiatives and at the same time strengthening the party.

Ramasamy, you on the other hand is focusing on breaking up the Tamil community through your Golden Chariot. It is a common knowledge that the Chettiar community has a tradition of organizing the Penang Waterfall Temple Thaipusam Festival over the last 100 years with their Silver Chariot. So why rock the boat and break up the Tamils ?

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Saravanan’s foray into agro and agro related business via NAAM is a bold and brave move to empower Indian youths and others to increase their disposal income as well as to reduce their involvement in social ills.

NAAM’s Community reach Mesra Programme has reached over 111,000 participants over the 2014/2015 while its agro chili planting and skill training programmes has yielded results by empowering 5385 participants as at to date encompassing both the youth and women.

The Skill Training by NAAM covers a wide range from electronics, computer skills, cake baking, sewing skills covering youth and women from the low income to middle income groups.

Does Ramasamy understand the economics of agro and agro related business ? Malaysia imports over RM8 billion of agriculture products annually from overseas. The cultivation of Agriculture produce will reduce Malaysia’s dependence on foreign imports and empower Indian youths.

MIC is a structured party with branches, division, state and national organisation. The party is able to engage the bottom 40, the middle 40 and Top 20 Indians with various programmes and initiatives. The Party is made of capable and experience leaders with on the ground experience and consist of professionals who are lawyers, accountants and others. This group is capable of translating MIC’s Development Plans into actions to continuously support the MIC President.

SO RAMASAMY STOP THE DESKTOP RESEARCH KIND OF ASSESSMENT AND THE BLAME GAME. COME TAKE ON ME. LET’S DEBATE ON WHAT MIC HAS DONE FOR THE INDIAN COMMUNITY AND WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CONTRIBUTION?

The above statement from an MIC leader on the achievements of MIC in 70 years of its existence

1.     Education

.Your wrong here as MCA established the TAR and UTAR well before MIC and UMNO by default thru been part of the ruling coalition formed Mara Junior colleges ITM and later UTM for the Bumiputras using government funds and also used Government funds to funds the education of the Bumiputras and where else MIC been part of the ruling coalition insisted that funds for education from the government to be channeled thru MIC education arm . The funds received were used to educate the well-connected MIC members children’s education with no accountability, Mathuraiveran must also benefitted from this too.

The Indians professionals the doctors lawyers engineers and other have been educated  by their parents hard earn money. If is true that MIC were responsible for the Indian professionals education , please publish a detail accounts of how much money was received and spend on educations , the names of the students who received scholarships . Only then the Indian public can see if all the funds were used for the intended students and not for the well off and well-connected students of MIC leaders and also funds diverted to the pockets of the MIC leaders.

Please show detail proof that the Funds received from the government was used for the intended purpose and from there can debate the achievements of MIC in educating the Malaysian Indians. N How many scholarships were given to Indians of poor parents and from the rubber and oil palm estates.

2.     Tamil Schools

and why only Tamil schools as MIC is an Indian based party with different races from the Indian sub-continent and their marketability in a Chines dominated private sector and why only primary schools and no secondary Tamils schools or Tamil language based colleges. The argument is that they will not be marketable when they graduate and then why waste6 years of studying Tamil which can be done at home speaking and learning to write in Tamils from the parents and siblings or was this for the Tamil pride and also to keep the estate Indian population literate, poor and a vote bank for MIC. Tamil school students on leaving Tamil primary education and have to do one year in a remove class to be able to enroll in form one in public National type secondary schools. 6 years in Tamil school does not give students automatic enrollment to form 1 in public National type secondary schools? So please tell me what is  purpose of Tamil schools if the primary education cannot be used in Secondary schools.

3.     SOCIO ECONOMIC INITIATIVES

This is interesting as there is no MIC business success and Maika was used by MIC to fool the Poor Indians to invest their life savings into Maika, which siphon the money and made Maika defund and left the poor investors holding worthless shares in Maika and also the Telekom shares which the government injected into Maika were diverted into the private accounts of the MIC leaders

The success stories are all on the Indian individual’s own initiative i.e. by commercializing the family recipes, opening up restaurants without help from MIC  and other then the food business do not see much Indian presence in the private sector.

If you are talk about AK as he was a creation of the rent seekers from UMNO as a trust for their ill-gotten money

4.     Welfare for Indians is non-existence and only have to look and the poor in estates , slums and single parents who have to fend for themselves and no National central independent welfare to cater for the poor Indians or welfare homes for the orphans and aged run by MIC but run by individual persons initiative with their own resources

Conclusion is an Indian if he is not a MIC member and also well-connected in MIC , then he or she left to his own initiative to succeed or fail in life
