Malaysian Uncle Stole Smartphone From Food Stall In Sutera Mall Caught On CCTV!!

Of all the years working at retails in the mall I’ve learned enough to know where it is safe to place my smartphone or cell phone around the cashier counter. When valuables are placed within an arm’s reach, those who are tempted by the devil will reach out and steal it.

A CCTV footage of an uncle was captured and uploaded on Wow 够够力 Facebook page sneakily stealing a smartphone placed on the cashier counter in Sutera Mall in Skudai, Johor. It has gone viral ever since uploaded with over 15,000 shares.

The young lady should know that it is dangerous to place your smartphone somewhere you’re not looking or near. The moment you turn your back, evildoers will take action!

The girl pleaded the public to spread this news in order to find this uncle as there is a lot of important information in it and she wants to retrieve her phone. She promised to take down the video and pictures of the uncle once she received her phone.

I highly doubt the uncle will still hold on to her phone, but if he does, then I do hope he has a little bit of sympathy and returns the phone to the girl.

If there is anyone who knows of this man, please contact her via WeChat: joey_9951.

Here is the CCTV video,

20-Year-Old Woman Gets Car Hijacked, Robbed Off RM2,000 And Forced To Perform Oral Sex!!!

Ladies, please be extra careful especially if you are driving late night or at ungodly hours, alone!

Just yesterday, it was reported by World of Buzz that a 20-year-old woman got her car hijacked and was forced to perform oral sex on him. This horrific incident was reported to have taken place in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

The victim who is only known as Gan had just returned home at 5.45am after having supper with friends. Not suspecting any danger, she opens her car door to only be greeted by a man holding a knife.

Gan was threatened to get back into her car quietly while the robber also got into the passenger seat. As he held the knife straight towards her head, the evil man told her to drive away to another location, claimed the victim.

The suspect even praised her appearance and told her not to scream, or else there will be consequences (aiming to injure her face).

As soon as the got outside of the residential area, the man instructed her to stop the car and then asked her to climb towards the back of the car. He even warned her to not do anything stupid, that may cause her harm.

It was reported that after the victim and suspect switched places in the vehicle, the robber drove the car to a bank where she was forced to withdraw RM2,000.

Gan begged to be released unharmed and to return her smartphone since she had obliged to all his commands. Surprisingly enough, the suspect agreed after giving her a warning to not turn on her phone.

This time, when they got back into the car, Gan was blindfolded with the clothes that were in her car. The suspect drove into a dark location, which the victim claim to be roughly 10 minutes away from the bank.

This was when things became worse, as when he took off her blindfold, he had already unbuttoned his pants and requested her to perform oral sex on him.

Shocked was the victim! Gan refused to comply and pleaded him once again to just release her since he had the money already. Thankfully, Gan’s endless pleas were taken into consideration and the suspect stopped forcing her.

It also appears that the man had made a phone call but the conversation was unclear. Once again blindfolded, Gan was asked to climb back to the rear seat. This was when she took the opportunity to remove the blindfold and switched on her phone to text her friends for help.

Probably, getting more nervous, the suspect didn’t even realise that Gan had ignored his instructions to lay down on the seat and as they stopped at a traffic light where there were cars in front and next to them.

The victim then decided to jump out of the car to get help from other motorists. Stunned by her actions, the man sped off in her car. Gan claimed that besides the RM2,000 cash, she also lost her Perodua Myvi, a gold ring, a Titus watch, her mother’s passport and an iPhone 7, which she somehow managed to hid under the seat at the beginning of the robbery.

Let’s just say that we are glad that at least Gan is safe and that we sincerely hope that the suspect gets caught by the police a.s.a.p! Please stay safe everyone!

AWW! Obese Thai Monkey Who Lives Off Junk Food Is Being Forced Onto A Diet!

Beach body positivity goals?

A morbidly obese wild monkey who gorged himself on junk food and soda left behind by tourists has been rescued and placed on a strict diet of lean protein, fruits, and vegetables.

Wildlife officials caught the chunky monkey  nicknamed “Uncle Fat” by locals  after photos of the animal started circulating on social media last month.

Wild monkeys roam free in many parts of Thailand, attracting tourists who feed and play with the animals. Most of the monkeys are macaques like Uncle Fat, and they typically weigh around 9 kilograms (20 pounds).

Uncle Fat weighs three times that, tipping the scales at around 26 kilograms (60 pounds).

“It was not easy to catch him,” said Kacha Phukem, the wildlife official who conducted the capture and rescue April 27.

“He was the leader of his pack, and when I tried to go in, I had to fight off a flock of them with sticks.”

The subordinate monkeys fed into Uncle Fat’s bad habits.

“He had minions and other monkeys bringing food for him but he would also re-distribute it to younger monkeys,”

Motorcycle Passenger’s Leg Caught In Between Engine And Rear Tire!!

There was a video posted by Facebook page Wow 够够力 of a woman whose leg got caught in between the back tire and the engine. The bloodied scene caused many netizens to cringe as the woman’s leg was flattened and her feet is believed to be caught in the tire rim.

However, her legs were laying on the exhaust pipe, her skin could be burning from the heat of the exhaust.

Netizens believed that her entire calf needs to be amputated. No news was reported yet on this incident, but I do hope she recovers quickly.

Here is the video and be warned that it is graphic!

Singapore Police Are Looking For The E-Scooter Rider Who Violently Assaulted An Elderly Man!!

A 69-year-old Singaporean man was allegedly assaulted by an e-scooter rider on Thursday, May 18 at about 9.30 pm. The daughter of the elderly man, Hui Ying, has lodged a police report against the rider.

She said the rider had been speeding when her parents were crossing the road, and in the attempt to avoid the rider, the plastic bag her father was holding which contained a raincoat accidentally brushed the man’s helmet.

The furious man stopped his e-scooter and allegedly assaulted her father, luckily, 2 passersby rushed to aid the elderly man. The assaulter fled quickly when her father was going to call the police, one of the passersby tried to chase after the assaulter but lost him somewhere near Paya Lebar.

Hui Ying’s father was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and he sustained cuts on his left eye and lips, several bruises, and punches to his face and chest which triggered a heart attack as verified by the doctor.

She posted an update on her Facebook post last night saying that the assaulter spoke in Singlish and claimed to be 60-year-old despite looking like 40-years-old. He was wearing a white helmet, wore a gray color t-shirt with an open chest, wore a chain on his neck and bermundas.

Her father recalled that the e-scooter was the standing type and he tried to hold on to the attacker and in the attempt tore his t-shirt and chain, but the attacker was too strong and he got away.

she was shocked that 2 newspaper media had come over to the hospital her father was receiving treatment. However, her father has already been discharged from the hospital after going through a minor operation.

The family is worried that the assaulter might come to the hospital, so they alerted the media. But the assaulter is still on the run, so if anyone were to spot the man, please contact the police!

Maths Smart Teen Will Be Receiving Her Master’s Degree Before Graduating High School!

For us it’s the As in the SPM, very exceptional cases sometimes, like Adi Putra. There are geniuses out there, in terms of theory, who receive degrees in advance. As for this one girl, she hasn’t received her high school diploma yet, but she will be receiving her Master’s degree, in a month. And of course, because she hasn’t graduated from school yet, she is currently 17 of age!

Let me introduce to you, Stephanie Mui.

She's getting a master's BEFORE she finishes high school ... meet Mason's youngest graduate, Stephanie Mui, age 17.
This brings up the question: Does she even have her Bachelor’s degree?

The answer is: yes, it is called Bachelor of Science, and she also has Associate of Science degree!

According to Nextshark, she was in fourth grade when she passed the College Board’s exam for calculus. She also started taking college courses right after she completed fifth grade, at Northern Virginia Community College. She also gained her Associate’s degree at the age of 13 (most of us would only be starting our secondary school!) and when she gained her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from George Mason (the tweet above!) while also schooling in Oakton High School!

Amazing, right?

She plans to continue with her Ph.D in New York University, after completing high school.

I personally would like to take a break by then, but you can see that her passion lies in maths!

She wouldn’t want to be called a genius, because she prefers being seen as diligent. You think that she studies in the weekends, but she keeps in touch with people she loves during the weekends. Mui seems to maintain a very balanced life, and seriously, you go girl!

Dates a magical Fruit ?

13 Amazing Benefits Of Dates

The benefits of dates include relief from constipation, intestinal disorders, heart problems, anemia, sexual dysfunctions, diarrhea, abdominal cancer, and many other conditions. Dates are also good for gaining weight. They are rich in several vitamins, minerals and fiber too. These delicious fruits contain oil, calcium, sulfur, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium which are all beneficial for health. Some health specialists have said that eating one day per day is necessary for a balanced and healthy diet.

The massive health benefits of dates have made them one of the best ingredients for muscle development. People consume dates in several ways, such as mixing the paste of the dates with milk, yogurt or with bread or butter to make them even more delicious. The paste is beneficial for both adults and children, especially during a time of recovery from injury or illness.

According to a modern medical survey, it is now accepted that dates are useful in preventing abdominal cancer. Muslims break their fast by eating dates and water according to their cultural traditions. Breaking fast by eating dates helps avoid overeating of food once the fast is over. When the body begins to absorb the high nutritional value of the dates, feelings of hunger are pacified. Also, the nervous system can get a lot of help from consuming dates, since they have significant amounts of potassium.

Dates are one of the best sweet and versatile foods that can regulate the digestive process. It can significantly boost energy levels in people within half an hour of consuming it. The American Cancer Society recommends an intake of 20-35 grams of dietary fiber per day, which can be supplied through dates. It is also said that taking one date per a day will help you to maintain your eye health all your life. They are commonly known to be quite effective in guarding against the problem of night blindness.

Nutritional Value Of Dates

Dates are a good source of various vitamins and minerals. Its also a good source of energy, sugar and fiber. Essential minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium and zinc can be found in dates. It also contains vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, vitamin A and vitamin K.

Health Benefits Of Dates

Constipation:

Dates are often categorized as a laxative food. This is why they are so frequently eaten by people suffering from constipation. In order to achieve the desired laxative effect of dates, you should soak some of them in water over night, then consume it in the morning when it becomes like a syrup, to get the most optimal results. Dates have high levels of soluble fiber, which is essential in promoting healthy bowel movements and the comfortable passage of food through the intestinal tract, which can relieve symptoms of constipation.

Bone Health and Strength:

The significant amounts of minerals found in dates make it a super food for strengthening bones and fighting off painful and debilitating diseases like osteoporosis. Date contains selenium, manganese, copper, and magnesium, all of which are integral to healthy bone development and strength, particularly as people begin to age and their bones gradually weaken. So eat your dates and give a boost to your bones!

Intestinal Disorders:

The nicotine content in dates is thought to be beneficial for curing many kinds of intestinal disorders. Continuous intake of dates helps to inhibit growth of the pathological organisms and thus, they help stimulate the growth of friendly bacteria in the intestines. In terms of digestive issues, dates contain insoluble and soluble fibers, as well as many beneficial amino acids which can stimulate the digestion of food and make it more efficient, meaning that more nutrients will be absorbed by the digestive tract and enter your body for proper usage.

Anemia:

Dates have a high mineral content, which is beneficial for many different health conditions, but their impressive levels of iron make them a perfect dietary supplement for people suffering from anemia. The high level of iron balances out the inherent lack of iron in anemic patients, increasing energy and strength, while decreasing feelings of fatigue and sluggishness.

Allergies:

One of the most interesting facets of dates is the presence of organic sulfur in them. This is not a very common element to find in foods, but it does have a worthwhile amount of health benefits, including the reduction of allergic reactions and seasonal allergies. According to a study done in 2002, organic sulfur compounds can have a positive impact on the amount of suffering people experience from SAR (Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis), which affects approximately 23 million people in the United States alone. Dates are a great way to somewhat stem the effects of those seasonal allergies through its contributions of sulfur to the diet.

Weight Gain:

Dates should be included as a part of a healthy diet. They consist of sugar, proteins and many essential vitamins. If dates are consumed with cucumber paste, you can keep your weight at a normal, balanced level, rather than over-slimming. One kilogram of dates contains almost 3,000 calories, and the calories in dates are sufficient to meet the daily requirements for a human body. Of course, you should not eat just dates throughout the day. If you are thin and slim and want to increase your weight, or if you are trying to build your muscles to impress some girl, or you have become weak due to a serious medical problem – you need to eat dates!

Energy Booster:

Dates are high in natural sugars like glucose, fructose, and sucrose. Therefore, they are the perfect snack for an immediate burst of energy. Many people around the world use dates for a quick afternoon snack when they are feeling lethargic or sluggish. Often when you exercise in a gym, outside or even on a stretching machine at home, you feel exhausted, chewing few dates at such times helps you regain your energy immediately.

Nervous System Health:

The vitamins present in dates make it an ideal boost to nervous system health and functionality. Potassium is one of the prime ingredients in promoting a healthy and responsive nervous system, and it also improves the speed and alertness of brain activity. Therefore, dates are a wonderful food source for people as they begin to age and their nervous system becomes sluggish or unsupported, as well as for people who want to keep their mind sharp.

Healthy Heart:

Dates are quite helpful in keeping your heart healthy. When they are soaked for the night, crushed in the morning and then consumed, they have been shown to have a positive effect on weak hearts. Dates are also a rich source of potassium, which studies have shown to reduce the risk of stroke and other heart related diseases. Furthermore, they are suggested as a healthy and delicious way to reduce the levels of LDL cholesterol in the body, which is a major contributing factor of heart attacks, heart disease, and stroke. Therefore, when taken twice a week, dates can seriously improve the overall health of the heart.

Sexual Weakness:

Studies have shown that dates are even beneficial for increasing sexual stamina. Soak a handful of dates in fresh goat’s milk over night, then grind them in the same milk with a mixture of cardamom powder and honey. This mixture becomes a very useful tonic for increasing sexual endurance and reducing sterility caused by various sexual disorders. The science behind this phenomenon is largely due to traditional usage which stimulated formal research. In 2006, Bahmanpour studied the effects of date palms and their oil on sexual functioning and found that the high levels of estradiol and flavonoid components of dates are what increase sperm count and motility, as well as promoting increased testes size and weight. So, if you are looking for a masculine boost, eat some dates, because they are a great natural aphrodisiac!

Night Blindness:

The benefits of dates are extensive, and are commonly employed to fight off various conditions affecting the ear, nose, and throat. When the leaves of the date palm are ground into a paste and rubbed on and around the eyes, or when dates are ingested orally, it has been shown to reduce the frequency of night blindness, and this solution is commonly used in rural areas where dates grow as an alternative medicine.

Intoxication:

Dates are commonly used as a remedy for alcoholic intoxication. Dates provide quick relief and have a sobering effect in case you feel as though have consumed an uncomfortable amount of alcohol. They can also be used the following morning to prevent severe hangovers. Again, they should be rubbed and soaked overnight for the best results.

Diarrhea:

Ripe dates contain potassium, which is known as an effective way of controlling diarrhea. They are also easy to digest, which further helps alleviate the unpredictable nature of chronic diarrhea. The soluble fiber in dates can also help relieve diarrhea, by providing bulk to the bowel movements and promoting normal, healthy functioning of the excretory system.

Abdominal Cancer:

Research has pointed towards dates being a legitimate way to reduce the risk and impact of abdominal cancer. They work as a useful tonic for all age groups, and in some cases, they work better than traditional medicines, and are natural, so they don’t have any negative side effects on the human body. They can be quickly and easily digested for a quick boost of energy.

Although dates carry tremendous nutritional values, great care should be taken in their selection because their surface is very sticky, which often attracts various impurities. Therefore, you should only consume dates that are processed and packaged properly. Also, make sure to wash them thoroughly before you eat them, as this will help remove the impurities present on the surface.

The 18 Most Suppressed Inventions Ever

Throughout history there have been countless attempts to discourage new technologies only to protect other people's self-interests. Below are some of the most suppressed inventions ever.

1. The Original Electric Car: Unplugged?

Perhaps the most notorious suppressed invention is the General Motors EV1 (video above), subject of the 2006 documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car? The EV1 was the world's first mass-produced electric car, with 800 of them up for lease from GM in the late '90s. GM ended the EV1 line in 1999, stating that consumers weren't happy with the limited driving range of the car's batteries, making it unprofitable for GM to continue production. Many skeptics, however, believe GM killed the EV1 under pressure from oil companies, who stand to lose the most if high-efficiency vehicles conquer the market. It doesn't help that GM had a policy of hunting down and destroying every last EV1, ensuring the technology would stall right then and there.

2. The Death of the American Streetcar

In 1921, if the streetcar industry wasn't actually naming streetcars Desire it was certainly desiring more streetcars. They netted $1 billion, causing General Motors to hemorrhage $65 million in the face of a thriving industry. GM retaliated by buying (or pressuring out of business) hundreds of independent railway companies, boosting the market for gas-guzzling GM busses and cars. The face of American transportation was all cars, cars, cars for the next half-century. While a recent urban movement to rescue mass transit has been underway, it is unlikely we'll ever see streetcars return to their former glory.

3. The 99-MPG Car

The holy grail of automotive technology is the 99-mpg car. Although the technology has been available for years, automakers have deliberately withheld it from the U.S. market. In 2000, the New York Times reported a little-known fact, at least to most: A diesel-powered dynamo called the Volkswagen Lupo had driven around the world averaging higher than 99 mpg. The Lupo was sold in Europe from 1998 to 2005 but, once again, automakers prevented it from coming to market; they claimed Americans had no interest in small, fuel-efficient cars.

4. Free Energy

Nikola Tesla was more than just the inspiration for a hair metal band, he was also an undisputed genius. In 1899, he figured out a way to bypass fossil-fuel-burning power plants and power lines, proving that "free energy" could be harnessed using ionization in the upper atmosphere to produce electrical vibrations. J.P. Morgan, who had been funding Tesla's research, had a bit of buyer's remorse when he realized that free energy for all wasn't as profitable as, say, actually charging people for every watt of energy use. Morgan then drove another nail in free energy's coffin by chasing away other investors, ensuring Tesla's dream would die.

5. Miracle Cancer Cure

In 2001, Nova Scotian Rick Simpson discovered that a cancerous spot on his skin disappeared within a few days of applying an essential oil made from marijuana. Since then, Simpson and others have treated thousands of cancer patients with incredible success. Researchers in Spain have confirmed that THC, an active compound in marijuana, kills brain-tumor cells in human subjects and shows promise with breast, pancreatic and liver tumors. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, however, classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, meaning that it has no accepted medical use, unlike Schedule II drugs, like cocaine and methamphetamine, which may provide medical benefits. What a buzzkill.

Water-Powered Vehicles

Despite how silly it sounds, water-fueled vehicles do exist. The most famous is Stan Meyer's dune buggy, which achieved 100 miles per gallon and might have become more commonplace had Meyer not succumbed to a suspicious brain aneurysm at 57. Insiders have loudly claimed that Meyer was poisoned after he refused to sell his patents or end his research. Fearing a conspiracy, his partners have all but gone underground (or should we say underwater?) and taken his famed water-powered dune buggy with them. We just hope someone finally brings back the amphibious car.

Chronovisor

What if you had a device that could see into the future and revisit the past? And what if you didn't need Christopher Lloyd to help you? Father Pellegrino Maria Ernetti, an Italian priest, claimed in the 1960s to have invented what he called a Chronovisor, something that allowed him to witness Christ's crucifixion. The device supposedly enabled viewers to watch any event in human history by tuning in to remnant vibrations that are caused by every action. (His team of researchers and builders included Enrico Fermi, who also worked on the first atomic bomb). On his deathbed, Fermi admitted that he had faked viewings of ancient Greece and Christ's demise, but insisted the Chronovisor, which had by then vanished, still worked. Unsurprisingly, conspiracy theorists say the Vatican is now the likely owner of the original Chronovisor.

Rife Devices

American inventor Royal Rife (his real name), in 1934, cured 14 "terminal" cancer patients and hundreds of animal cancers by aiming his "beam ray" at what he called the "cancer virus." So why isn't the Rife Ray in use today? Barry Lynes, in his 1987 book The Cancer Cure That Worked, details how Rife's invention was discredited by Morris Fishbein, the director of the American Medical Association (AMA), after his offers to buy a share of the technology were rebuffed, although this has never been proven and the AMA has denied it. A 1953 U.S. Senate special investigation concluded that Fishbein and the AMA had conspired with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to suppress various alternative cancer treatments that conflicted with the AMA's pre-determined view that "radium, x-ray therapy and surgery are the only recognized treatments for cancer."

Cloudbuster

In 1953, when severe drought threatened the blueberry harvest in the state of Maine, Dr. Wilhelm Reich, the inventor of a supposed rainmaking device called the Cloudbuster, and he was contracted to bring rain. The Bangor Daily News reported at the time that within hours of setting up the Cloudbuster, nearly ¼ inch of rain had fallen across the area, despite no precipitation in the forecast. Curiously, it does not seem that Reich attempted this feat again and, in 1954, the government put a stop to his work entirely. After Reich's conviction for selling a phone-booth-sized box that he claimed cured the common cold and impotence, in violation of FDA rules, Reich was sentenced to prison, where he soon died. The court also ordered that Reich's inventions, their parts and any writing about them be destroyed.

Overunity Generator

A number of overunity generators, which produce more energy than they take to run, have surfaced in the past century. Ironically, they have been more trouble than they were worth. In nearly all cases, a supposedly working prototype has been unable to make it to commercial production as a result of various corporate or government forces working against the technology. Recently, the Lutec 1000, an "electricity amplifier," has been making steady progress toward a final commercial version. Will consumers soon be able to buy it, or will it too be suppressed?

Cold Fushion

Billions of dollars have been spent researching how to create energy using controlled "hot fusion," a risky and unpredictable line of experimentation. Meanwhile, garage scientists and a fringe group of university researchers have been getting closer to harnessing the power of "cold fusion," which is much more stable and controllable, but far less supported by government and foundation money. In 1989, Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons announced that they had made a breakthrough and had observed cold fusion in a glass jar on their lab bench. To say the reaction they received was chilly would be an understatement. CBS's 60 Minutes described how the resulting backlash from the well-funded hot-fusion crowd sent the researchers underground and overseas, where within a few years their funding dried up, forcing them to drop their pursuit of clean energy.

Hot Fushion

Cold fusion isn't the only technology to get buried by hot-headed scientists. When two physicists who were working on the decades-long Tokamak Hot Fusion project at Los Alamos Laboratory stumbled across a cheaper, safer method of creating energy from colliding atoms, they were allegedly forced to repudiate their own discoveries or be fired; the lab feared losing the torrent of government money for Tokamak. In retaliation, the lead researchers created the Focus Fusion Society, which raises private money to fund their research outside of government interference.

Magnetofunk and Himmelkompass

Nazi scientists spent much of World War II hidden in a covert military base somewhere in the arctic, creating the Magnetofunk. This alleged invention was designed to deflect the compasses of Allied aircraft that might be searching for Point 103, as the base was known. The aircraft pilots would think they were flying in a straight line, but would gradually curve around Point 103 without ever knowing they were deceived. The Himmelkompass allowed German navigators to orient themselves to the position of the sun, rather than magnetic forces, so they could find Point 103 despite the effects of the Magnetofunk. According to Wilhelm Landig, a former SS officer, these two devices were closely guarded secrets of the Third Reich. So closely guarded were they that neither device apparently survived the collapse of Hitler's Germany, although the real tragedy is that no one has ever named their band Magnetofunk.

A Safer Cigarette?

In the 1960s, the Liggett & Myers tobacco company created a product called the XA, a cigarette in which most of the stick's carcinogens had been eliminated. Dr. James Mold, Liggett's Research Director, reported in court documents in the case of "The City and County of San Francisco vs. Phillip Morris, Inc.," that Phillip Morris threatened to "clobber" Liggett if they did not adhere to an industry agreement never to reveal information about the negative health effects of smoking. By advertising a "safer" alternative, they would be admitting the dangers of tobacco use. The lawsuit was dismissed on a technicality and Phillip Morris never addressed the accusations. Despite their own scientists' publication of research that showed less cancer in mice exposed to smoke from the XA, Liggett & Myers issued a press released denying evidence of cancer in humans as a result of tobacco use, and the XA never saw the light of day.

TENS

The Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulation (TENS) device was created to alleviate pain impulses from the body without the use of drugs. In 1974, Johnson & Johnson bought StimTech, one of the first companies to sell the machine, and proceeded to starve the TENS division of money, causing it to flounder. StimTech sued, alleging that Johnson & Johnson purposely stifled the TENS technology to protect sales of its flagship drug, Tylenol. Johnson & Johnson responded that the device never performed as well as was claimed and that it was not profitable. StimTech's founders won $170 Million, although the ruling was appealed and overturned on a technicality. The court's finding that the corporation suppressed the TENS device was never overturned.

The Phoebus Cartel

Phillips, GE and Osram engaged in a conspiracy from 1924 to 1939 with the goal of controlling the fledgling light-bulb industry, according to a report published in Time magazine six years later. The alleged cartel set prices and suppressed competing technologies that would have produced longer-lasting and more efficient light bulbs. By the time the cabal dissolved, the industry-standard incandescent bulb was established as the dominant source of artificial light across Europe and North America. Not until the late 1990s did compact fluorescent bulbs begin to edge into the worldwide lighting market as an alternative.

The Coral Castle

How did Ed Leedskalnin build the massive Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida, out of giant chunks of coral weighing up to 30 tons each with no heavy equipment and no outside help? Theories abound, including anti-gravity devices, magnetic resonance and alien technology, but the answer may never be known. Leedskalnin died in 1951 without any written plans or clues as to his techniques. The centerpiece of the castle, which is now a museum open to the public, is a nine-ton gate that used to move with light pressure from one finger. After the gate's bearings wore out in the 1980s, a crew of five took more than two weeks to fix it, although they never did get it to work as effortlessly as Leedskalnin's original masterpiece.

Hemp Bio-fuel

The father of our country, George Washington, who is rumored to have said "I cannot tell a lie," was a proud supporter of the hemp seed. Of course, the only thing more suppressed in this country than an honest politician is hemp, which is often mistakenly for marijuana and therefore unfairly maligned. Governmental roadblocks, meanwhile, prevent hemp from becoming the leader in extracting ethanol, allowing environmentally damaging sources like corn to take over the ethanol industry. Despite the fact that it requires fewer chemicals, less water and less processing to do the same job, hemp has never caught on. Experts also lay the blame at the feet of (who else?) Presidential candidates, who kiss up to Iowa corn growers for votes.

In late 2015, astronomers noticed something absurd happening around a distant star. Something massive seemed to be blocking as much as 20 percent of the star’s light.

That’s way too much to be a planet. It might be comets, or maybe an alien-made Dyson swarm. The problem is that none of the hypotheses that scientists have come up with (including the one about aliens) really fits with the data. That leads them to think that some as-yet-undiscovered phenomena is happening around this star.

For years, astronomer Tabetha Boyajian and her colleagues have been waiting for the mysterious light dips to happen again, so that they could collect more data and try to get to the bottom of the mystery. And now it seems the star is finally dimming again:

The researchers suspected another dip was happening yesterday, but this morning the Fairborn Observatory in Arizona confirmed that the star has dimmed by three percent. (By comparison, a Jupiter-sized planet would block one percent of a star's light, at most.) The team has put out a call for amateur astronomers and large observatories to point their scopes at the star and try to collect data. The Swift, Keck, Fairborn, and Lick telescopes are among the observatories who'll helping the effort.
In particular, the astronomers want to see how the star looks in different wavelengths. That's because different materials will block some wavelengths but not others, offering clues to the identify of any circumstellar material that may be blocking the light.

The light from 'Tabby's Star' has dipped by three percent so far. Astronomers aren't sure if the light will continue to plummet, or if so, for how long.

Livestream

If it's dust that's blocking the light, the spectra should show big dips in the blue and ultraviolet wavelengths. If it's other stuff orbiting the star, like a family of huge comets, then the observations should show extra heat being radiated off of this stuff. So far, that excess infrared has remained elusive, but Jason Wright, an astronomer from Penn State, said that the observations that will start tonight could provide the first evidence of that.

If it's an alien megastructure, or some kind of internal process, all of the wavelengths should get dimmer equally. A bizarre signature, such as Tritium or artificial elements would be a pretty strong hint for aliens, although it would take an extraordinary amount of evidence to prove such an extraordinary claim.

Wright said they might have some preliminary results back as soon as tomorrow night, but other data will take longer to analyze.

“I don’t think we’re going to solve the puzzle this weekend," says Wright, but he added that this weekend may be when they collect the data that eventually solves the puzzle.

Chaos in the White House: A Senior Official Is under Investigation, There's a Probe into a Cover-Up and More

By Jacob Weindling

Bombshell o’clock came early today, as The Washington Post and The New York Times continued their tag team on the administration, and gave the president his two scoops a few hours earlier than these stories usually drop. First, from the Times recounting a story the day after Comey was fired:

President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting.

“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

Mr. Trump added, “I’m not under investigation.”

Read more here
Keep in mind that those quotes were told to the Russians. The White House isn’t pushing back on any of this.

Shortly after this report, WaPo released what looks to be a pretty damaging story.

The law enforcement investigation into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign has identified a current White House official as a significant person of interest, showing that the probe is reaching into the highest levels of government, according to people familiar with the matter.

The senior White House adviser under scrutiny by investigators is someone close to the president, according to these people, who would not further identify the official.

The revelation comes as the investigation also appears to be entering a more overtly active phase, with investigators shifting from work that has remained largely hidden from the public to conducting interviews and using a grand jury to issue subpoenas. The intensity of the probe is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, the people said.

Before you come to any consensus on what WaPo's scoop means, check out this thread from a lawyer on the subject of legal terminology.
The White House communications office released what can only be described as a bizarre “rebuttal” to both stories.
You have to love that the WaPo article completely rebukes Trump's assessment in the Times piece that the “great pressure” he faced from the Russian investigation has been “taken off.” This is such an epic shitshow. The President of the United States bragged to the Russians about firing the “real nut job” that was the director of the FBI over his investigation into the orbit of the president, AND THEN REVEALED HIGHLY CLASSIFIED ISRAELI INTEL IN THAT SAME MEETING!!! In another scoop from Foreign Policy that came out shortly after these two, it was revealed that the Israelis are righteously pissed off.

FP: Israeli intel officers were shouting at US officials in mtgs, furious Trump may have compromised a vital source

This is all so incredibly stupid. When The New York Times contacted the administration for comment on their story, one official said:

Mr. Trump was using a negotiating tactic when he told Mr. Lavrov about the “pressure” he was under. The idea, the official suggested, was to create a sense of obligation with Russian officials and to coax concessions out of Mr. Lavrov—on Syria, Ukraine and other issues—by saying that Russian meddling in last year’s election had created enormous political problems for Mr. Trump.

Even if we assumed that complete honesty stood behind this argument, it still would be laughably naïve. The Russians are not our friends, and could care less whether a president must deal with domestic issues because of foreign meddling. That’s the point behind their actions. They want chaos that chips away at the traditional Western order. Ever since the United States snubbed the Russians for a spot in NATO in the 2000’s and expanded our eastern European missile defense, they have been deeply distrustful of our government—no matter who ran it. Donald Trump is an American the same as Barack Obama or George W. Bush. “Enemies” may be a bit too forceful of a word to describe our relationship, but at best, we are adversaries with the Kremlin.

But the administration should not be afforded the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this case because they have stonewalled this topic every step of the way, and now McClatchy is reporting that:

Investigators into Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential elections are now also probing whether White House officials have engaged in a cover-up, according to members of Congress who were briefed Friday by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

That avenue of investigation was added in recent weeks after assertions by former FBI Director James Comey that President Donald Trump had tried to dissuade him from pressing an investigation into the actions of Trump’s first national security adviser, retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, members of Congress said, though it was not clear whom that part of the probe might target.

It should also be noted that these four negative stories for Trump all dropped as soon as he boarded Air Force One for his first foreign trip as president. These leaks seem to be coordinated, and it’s difficult to see how it’s not related to the torrent of leaks in the wake of Comey’s dismissal which painted a picture of a group of employees who hate their boss. Donald Trump has spent his entire life taking advantage of people and tossing them away as soon as they outlive their usefulness, and now it may finally be coming back to bite him.

Russian FM Lavrov Refutes Claims That He Discussed Comey's Dismissal With Trump

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has refuted the claims that he had ostensibly discussed the dismissal of the former FBI director Comey with US President Donald Trump during the minister's meeting with the US President on May 10.

Earlier this week, mainstream media outlets like the Washington Post, New York Times published articles claiming that Trump had told Lavrov that firing Comey ameliorated "great pressure."

"We did not touch on that topic at all," Lavrov told reporters on Saturday.

11 Things We Know about This Saga

1. Vladimir Putin supports extremist political parties throughout Europe.

2. Trump spouts traditional Kremlin talking points like “Obama is the founder of ISIS” and “The people of Crimea, from what I've heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were.”

3.   Donald Trump  Jr. said in 2008, “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

4.   Donald Trump  went bankrupt running a rigged business multiple times in the 90's, yet clearly had some way to keep his credit afloat and his new businesses running (Trump Steaks, Trump University, etc…).

5.   Donald Trump's National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, basically confirmed to Yahoo's Michael Isikoff that he takes/took payments from the Kremlin.

6. Michael Flynn is/was under federal investigation for his communications with Russian ambassadors, and the day most in question is the day that Barack Obama announced a new round of sanctions on Russia.

7. Paul Manafort, who made at least $12.7 million working for Ukraine's deposed president/Vladimir Putin puppet, Viktor Yanukovych, was part of the Trump campaign before being fired for that revelation (and was the reason John McCain passed on adding him to the team in 2008), but now he's back.

8. This video exists.

9. Vladimir Putin detests NATO, as it is in conflict with his goal of establishing a 21st century Soviet Union.

10. Donald Trump  is the only presidential candidate in NATO's history to run on the idea of dismantling it.

11.   Donald Trump  altered a long-standing provision in the GOP platform which bound them to providing “lethal defensive weapons” to Ukraine in the event of an invasion, but now it simply promises “appropriate assistance.”

I mean, we're talking about a LOT of coincidences here for Russia not to be involved in something smarmy, and now we're getting new reports that intelligence officials are being rounded up by the Kremlin?

Read more about Russians all but in name in White House

According to the mainstream media, while speaking with Lavrov, Trump reportedly said: "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off… I'm not under investigation." Presumably, the pressure was lifted because Trump had just fired the "crazy" Comey, whom he allegedly went as far as describing as a "real nut job."
The media outlets that had claimed that the issue was raised during the meeting failed to provide any proof.

On May 9, Trump fired Comey following "clear recommendations" from both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Later, Trump said that he had made the decision himself.

Finally, A Hoverboard That Actually Flies - ONE OF 10 INNOVATIONS TO WIN A 2016 INVENTION AWARD

OMNI HOVERBOARD

Alexandru Duru holds the Guinness World Record for the farthest hoverboard flight: 905 feet, 2 inches.

On May 22, 2015, Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada, was peaceful and sunny. Then something straight out of science fiction roared across the water. Alexandru Duru, balancing on a homemade hoverboard 16 feet above the surface, flew a distance of 905 feet, 2 inches—smashing the previous Guinness World Record (a measly 164 feet) for the farthest hoverboard flight. “Riding it is a feeling that no other machine can provide,” Duru says. “Nothing comes close.”

Duru, a software engineer, has devoted the past five years to perfecting his hoverboard design, called Omni. His first attempt was little more than a piece of wood strapped to a motor and propeller. The current iteration—refined by his new company, Omni Hoverboards, and local university students—is made from carbon fiber but still has a DIY feel: It achieves lift with eight large propellers, powered by 16 lithium-polymer batteries.

Duru and his team are now developing a second prototype that’s sleeker, more powerful, and safe enough for an eager public. He plans for it to be ready for distribution by 2017. “Most people imagine a future with hoverboards in them,” he says. “I think it’s going to happen for sure.”

On his record-setting hoverboard run, Duru controlled his altitude and speed using a handheld remote fashioned from a pair of pliers. And that wasn't the only DIY aspect of Omni: Duru also used snowboard bindings to strap his feet to the frame.

Google Lens is Google’s future

This feature gives you a view into the meaning of AI first.

CEO Sundar Pichai introduces Google Lens in his 2017 Google I/O keynote Google
If you want to know where Google is headed, look through Google Lens.

The artificially intelligent, augmented reality feature seemed to generate the most interest at Google’s developer conference that wrapped up Friday. Of all announcements, it best encapsulated what Google’s transition to an “AI first” company means.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai underscored the tool as a key reflection of Google’s direction, highlighting it in his Google I/O keynote as an example of Google being at an "inflection point with vision.”

"All of Google was built because we started understanding text and web pages. So the fact that computers can understand images and videos has profound implications for our core mission," he said in his introduction of Lens.

The feature is first being added to Google Photos and the personalized AI software Assistant, which is available on an increasing number of devices. Lens uses machine learning to examine photos viewed through your phone’s camera, or on saved photos on your phone, and can use the images to complete tasks.

A few things Lens can do:

Tell you what species a flower is just by viewing the flower through your phone’s camera;
Read a complicated Wi-Fi password through your phone’s camera and automatically log you into the network;
Offer you reviews and other information about the restaurant or retail store across the street, by you just flashing your camera over the physical place.

Lens was a favorite of several Google I/O attendees for its clear utility. It’s the kind of feature that could make the apps that contain it more uniquely useful. One developer commented to me it was “the first time AI is more than a gimmick.”

Typing a question into Assistant, for example, can feel like just using Google Search in a separate window. Add this new computer vision capability, though, and you have something a browser search box can’t do.

Lens brings Google’s use of AI into the physical world. It effectively acts as a search box, and shows Google’s adaption to the move amongst younger users toward visual media. That preference has made social network Snap a magnet for younger users, who prefer to communicate with pictures over text.

Lens affirms a consistency of focus for Google. Here is augmented reality at work doing exactly what people know Google can do, which is retrieve information from the web.

But in considering how this new visual search option may play out, compare it to voice search, which for now often returns read-outs of whatever would appear at the top of search, sometimes resulting in answers that are inaccurate, offensive or lacking in context.

Google also cleverly incorporated Lens into one of the company’s most-used apps, Photos, which has gained half a billion users in the two years since its launch. The incorporation could help Google become more essential to mobile users by making its mobile apps more essential. That means Google will have a place on users’ phones even if its own hardware like the Pixel phone fails to catch on.

Pichai said in his founders’ letter a year ago that part of this shift to being an AI first company meant computing would be less device-centric. Lens is an example of being less device-centric, on mobile.

The technology behind Lens is essentially nothing new, and that also tells us something about where Google is going. This is not to say that Google is done coming up with new technologies, but that there are a lot of capabilities the company is still putting together into useful products.

You can watch Sundar Pichai’s entire keynote from this year’s Google I/O below.

Does toppling of Chávez statue mean Venezuela has reached a breaking point?

Amid economic chaos, food shortages and widespread protest, some believe the government has ‘hit rock-bottom’ – yet key figures remain loyal to the president

The demonstration began with a group of schoolboys, who gathered – still dressed in their school uniforms – in the palm-lined square outside the town hall of the prairie town of Villa del Rosario in western Venezuela.

The Latest In Venezuela 2017 - On The Brink of A Civil War - With Rare Raw Footage

Death toll in Venezuela protests rises to at least 45

Hugo Chávez statue torn down as death toll rises in Venezuela protests

Before long, some kind of flammable liquid was thrown at a life-sized statue of the late president Hugo Chávez and set alight. And then, to cheers from onlookers, the figurine itself – which appeared to be made of glass-fibre or plastic – was pulled down and dragged into the street.

In terms of historical significance, the incident is unlikely to rank alongside the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s 12-metre statue in Baghdad, shortly after the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

But the destruction of the statue last Friday did not go unnoticed in a country where many public buildings are still adorned with images of Chávez, four years after his death.

Over the weekend, cellphone pictures and footage of the incident went viral in Venezuela, where widespread discontent with President Nicolás Maduro, Chávez’s handpicked successor, has erupted into near-daily protests.

Since then, the gesture has been repeated elsewhere: in Ureña, a town in western Venezuela, a bust of Chávez disappeared from a public square, and in the late leader’s home state of Barinas, a mural with the leader’s face reproduced in the style of Warhol’s Marilyns was defaced.

Some argue that such incidents demonstrate that after years of economic chaos, food shortages and government repression, Venezuelans have finally reached the breaking point.

“This showed that the government is hitting rock-bottom,” said Marinelis Soto, an accountant who lives near Villa del Rosario. “This happened in a town that used to be pro-government – and now people are so angry that they are constantly blocking roads.”

But others warn that, as Maduro moves forward with plans to rewrite the country’s constitution despite six weeks of anti-government protests – talk of a tipping point still seems premature.

Hundreds of thousands have joined near-daily demonstrations, but many ordinary Venezuelans – and the country’s political and military elites – remain loyal to Chavismo, ideology following in the footsteps of Chávez. And according to Luís Vicente Leon, a leading pollster, the collapse of authoritarian regimes is more often caused by internal splits than outside pressure.

“Fractures [in the government] always exist, but we can’t talk about reaching critical mass,” he said.

“In these processes, what you see are internal fissures that are so deep that they lead to an implosion. They don’t come from the opposition, or from a crisis. They generally come from inside,” he said.

Hugo Chávez statue toppled during Venezuela riots – video
One sign of such internal divisions came in March when the country’s attorney general, Luisa Ortega, condemned an attempt by the government-stacked supreme court to strip the opposition-led congress of its power as “a rupture of the constitutional thread”.

The move was soon put on hold, but Ortega has since become more outspoken. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, she condemned the government’s mismanagement of the economy and expressed support for the protesters.

“We cannot demand that the citizens behave peacefully and legally in front of a state that is taking decisions that do not obey the law,” Ortega said.

In recent weeks, Maduro has come under criticism from a number of unexpected sources. The 20-year-old son of the country’s ombudsman, Tarek William Saab, read a letter to his own father on YouTube, in which he pleaded with him to “put an end to the injustices afflicting his country”. Yibram Saab published his message after he had joined a protest in which a 20-year-old student was killed.

“It could have been me,” Saab told his father.

Last week, the death of a 17-year-old viola player prompted the conductor Gustavo Dudamel – who had been criticised for not speaking out – to issue a statement criticizing the government and demanding Maduro to put an end to violence.

Maduro’s decision to call for a constituent assembly has also earned him criticism from high-ranking figures on the left of his party, who see the move as an affront to Chávez’s legacy. (Chávez oversaw the drafting of a new constitution in 1999, which he declared was “perfect”.)

“The Constituent assembly is a risky step and a great historical responsibility. It opens a space through which elements that destroy our revolution could enter,” Rafael Ramírez, Venezuelan ambassador to the UN and one of Chávez’s key allies, wrote in a local newspaper over the weekend.

Although pressure on Maduro may be mounting, it is still not coming from two key areas, Leon said. “The electoral authorities validated the constituent assembly, and perhaps most important, we haven’t seen the military express dissent,” he said.

For now, the war of attrition between government and opposition looks set to continue, and the death toll seems certain to rise.

Monica Pérez, who lives close to the square where the Chávez monument once stood, said that the toppling of the statue had galvanized the opposition in the town.

“It was the first time I saw this happen here,” she said. “We all feel the moment is now, and we must continue in the streets until the end.”

A man drove his car at high speed onto a pavement in New York’s Times Square on Thursday, killing one 18-year-old woman and injuring 22 other people, told police he was “hearing voices,” law enforcement officials have said.

Times Square car crash 'no indication' of terrorism, New York mayor says – as it happened
New York mayor Bill de Blasio says that several people were injured and there was at least one person killed, and that the suspect served in the navy

The driver, a US navy veteran named as Richard Rojas, was arrested at the scene and breathalysed. Rojas had prior convictions for driving while intoxicated, according to police. He was seen slumped as he was detained by several officers and led to a police vehicle.

The New York fire department said 13 people were treated for injuries on the ground after the collision at the tourist site in midtown Manhattan, which attracts more than 300,000 visitors a day.

In all, 22 people were injured and an 18-year-old woman was killed. The woman’s 13-year-old sister was among the injured, according to authorities. Four people were critically injured but all were expected to survive.

Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City, said there was “no indication that this was an act of terrorism”, after observers initially feared a repeat of recent incidents in Europe.

The mayor said that authorities were none the less “reinforcing key locations around the city” out of what he called “an abundance of caution”.

“This is a tough day for New York City,” said de Blasio, who thanked emergency service workers who had been quick to arrive on scene to treat the wounded.

The crash came shortly before noon on Thursday as crowds packed streets on New York’s hottest day of the year so far.

Abdel Dosokey, 20, told the Guardian he was working in a falafel cart at Broadway and 43rd Street, on the east side of Times Square, when the car crashed, sending pedestrians running and screaming.

“I saw a car go on to the sidewalk and hit a lot of people,” said Dosokey. “He went into the sidewalk and a lot of people were hit down after that.” Dosokey said police and ambulances arrived about two minutes later.

Rojas was driving a maroon 2009 Honda Accord. The car mounted the pavement at the west side of 7th Avenue and west 42nd Street. The vehicle ended up impaled on a bollard and tilted on one side, with its front windscreen smashed and its hood crumpled.

James O’Neill, the New York police commissioner, said Rojas “proceeded to drive at a high rate of speed along the sidewalk from 42nd street to 45th street”. Flames were seen coming from Rojas’s vehicle and were extinguished by firefighters.

Police said Rojas was a resident of the Bronx section of New York City, and that he had been arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2008 and 2015.

O’Neill said civilians and police had been involved in apprehending Rojas, but declined to give any more details.

Times Square, typically one of the busiest areas of New York City, was completely blocked off to the public on Thursday afternoon following the crash. Police shut down 43rd and 44th streets, which intersect Times Square, between 7th and 8th avenues.

In a statement posted to Twitter, New York’s Sergeants Benevolent Association said: “Regarding today’s car crash in Times Square- we don’t know yet if this was just an accident, but continue to stay alert & carry your firearm”.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, said Donald Trump was briefed on the incident.

Carolyn Maloney, a Democratic congresswoman for New York, said on Twitter: “My heart goes out to the family who lost a loved one and those injured in Times Square crash.”

Unmarried couple stoned to death in Mali for ‘violating Islamic law’

An unmarried couple have been stoned to death in public in north-east Mali, in the first such incident since jihadi groups were driven out of the region.

Jihadis seized key northern cities in Mali in March 2012, and though they were driven out by a French-led military intervention in 2013, Islamist groups continue to make their presence felt with frequent attacks on domestic and foreign forces.

“The Islamists dug two holes where they put the man and the woman who lived maritally without being married,” said a local official. “They were stoned to death.”

The execution happened in Taghlit, close to Aguelhok in the Kidal region, on Tuesday. The same source told AFP that members of the public were invited to take part.

“Four people threw stones at them until they died,” they said.

Another local official said the ringleaders had accused the unmarried couple of violating “Islamic law”, which requires punishment by stoning.

During their brief control of key towns in the north, jihadist groups imposed a version of Sharia law which forced women to wear veils and set whipping and stoning as punishment for transgressions.

In July 2012, the Al-Qaida-linked Ansar Dine group stoned a couple in public in Aguelhok they had accused of having children outside marriage.

The Malian Association for the Defence of Human Rights described Tuesday’s stoning as “cowardly murder”.

“This is barbaric. The people who did this should be arrested and put on trial,” said Oumar Diakite, an AMDH official.

The opposition Parena party meanwhile noted that 309 people had been killed since the beginning of the year by armed groups, describing “alarm at the deterioration of the security situation” two years after the signature of a peace deal.

That accord was aimed at ending successive uprisings by Tuareg rebels, who signed the deal along with the government and pro-Bamako militias in the hope of bringing stability to the north.

The last Tuareg rebellion in 2012 was hijacked by the Islamists, throwing the country into chaos.

The stoning comes on the eve of an expected visit to Mali by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who is due to meet French troops stationed there on Thursday or Friday.

A UN mission known by its acronym Minusma has also been stationed in the west African country since 2013 and is considered the world body’s most dangerous active peacekeeping deployment.

*KETAJAMAN PEMIKIRAN MAHATHIR LUAR BIASA.*

Opposition, dissolution of the Malayan Union and the creation of the Federation of Malaya

Protest against the Malayan Union by the Malays.

The Malays generally opposed the creation of the Union. The opposition was due to the methods Sir Harold MacMichael used to acquire the Sultans' approval, the reduction of the Sultans' powers, and easy granting of citizenship to immigrants. The United Malays National Organisation or UMNO, a Malay political association formed by Dato' Onn bin Ja'afar on 1 March 1946, led the opposition against the Malayan Union. Malays also wore white bands around their heads, signifying their mourning for the loss of the Sultans' political rights.

Some ex-Malayan government officials, including Sir Frank Swettenham, criticised the way these constitutional reforms were brought about in Malaya, even saying that it went against the principles of the Atlantic Charter. They also encouraged Malay opposition to the Malayan Union.

After the inauguration of the Malayan Union, the Malays, under UMNO continued opposing the Malayan Union. They utilised civil disobedience as a means of protest by refusing to attend the installation ceremonies of the British governors. They had also refused to participate in the meetings of the Advisory Councils, hence Malay participation in the government bureaucracy and the political process had totally stopped. The British had recognised this problem and took measures to consider the opinions of the major races in Malaya before making amendments to the constitution. The Malayan Union was dissolved and replaced by the Federation of Malaya on 1 February 1948.
