Triple talaq not integral to Islam, even Sati was abolished from Hinduism: Centre to SC

Earlier today, the SC asked AIMPLB whether a woman can be given an option of saying ‘no’ to triple talaq at the time of execution of ‘nikahnama’.

Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi told the SC that triple talaq should not be seen as discrimination between majority and minority communities.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the issue of triple talaq should not be seen as discrimination between majority and minority communities. “It is an issue of a minority community and that of women within that community,” said Rohatgi in the top court which is hearing a clutch of petitions challenging triple talaq, polygamy and ‘nikah halala’.

Arguing for abolishment of triple talaq, the attorney general told the court that ‘if the practice is not present in 25 Islamic countries then it can’t be said it is essential to Islam”. Responding to CJI JS Khehar’s question on which old tradition of Hinduism was set aside by courts, Rohatgi submitted that once Sati and Devdasi etc were part of Hinduism.

Rohatgi added that if All India Muslim Personal Law Board itself says that triple talaq is optional, sinful and undesirable then how can it be integral to Islam.

Earlier in the day, the apex court asked the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) whether a woman can be given an option of saying ‘no’ to triple talaq at the time of execution of ‘nikahnama’ (Islamic marriage contract). A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar also said if all ‘Qazis’ can be asked to include this condition at the time of marriage.

“Is it possible that Muslim women are given an option to say ‘no’ to triple talaq at the time of execution of nikahnama,” asked the bench also comprising Justices Kurian Joseph, R F Nariman, U U Lalit and Abdul Nazeer

While seeking response from former Union Minister and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing AIMPLB, the bench said, “Don’t infer anything from our side.”

Violent Clash Between Two Groups Of Sikhs At Frankfurt's Gurdwara Over Panth Preet Singh's Preaching

Darpan News Desk, 16 May, 2017

Violent Clash Between Two Groups Of Sikhs At Frankfurt's Gurdwara Over Panth Preet Singh's Preaching

Two groups of Sikhs clashed at the Sikh Centre Gurudwara Frankfurt (Germany) on Sunday over a programme by Panth Preet Singh, a preacher from Punjab. Police had to intervene to protect the preacher when he was reciting his Katha (story of Sikh preaching) at the gurdwara.

The two groups included members of the Sikh Centre Gurudwara management and several Taxali (traditional thinking) leaders living in Germany and nearby European countries. Local leaders in Punjab said it was not the first time that Panth Preet faced opposition to his programme. The same thing had happened in Italy, too.

Panth Preet is considered anti-panthic by the Taxali leaders, who said he has been distorting the original preaching of the Sikh panth and they always wanted to have a debate with him to which Panth Preet never agreed, said a Sikh leader here.

At least three videos of this fight were released on social media in which a large number of Sikhs gathered outside the gurdwara raising slogans and scuffling with each other.

In another video, Frankfurt police were seen inside the gurdwara taking Panth Preet away to safety. And then, he recited the Katha on the first floor of the gurdwara where a large number of Sikh devotees were present.

BREAKING: Bid to attack Sikh preacher Panthpreet Singh in Italy

Panth Preet exposed as Anti-sikhi

A Sikh leader and president of a gurdwara in a German city, on condition of anonymity, said while the management of the gurdwara wanted to organise the programme of Panth Preet, Taxalis opposed it.

“The Taxali leaders had even called police to stop the programme, but the latter did not intervene as it was a religious matter,” said the leader, adding that when the gurdwara management refused to stop the programme, the Taxali leaders sent their supporters inside who created chaos.

And, another large group of Taxali leaders tried to beat up the others outside the gurdwara, said the leader, adding that some of them were rounded up by police.

Panth Preet is considered to be a preacher of modernity, just like Dhadrianwale, said Sikh leaders here, adding that Taxali leaders never like these modern preachers.

Indian-Origin Trio Held For South African Medical School Scam

Three Indian-origin persons were arrested here by police for allegedly selling seats to Indian students to study medicine and other health science courses at a university in South Africa.

Accused Varsha (44) and Hiteshkumar Bhatt (46) are the owners of Durban's "Little Gujarat" restaurant while Preshni Hiramun (55) is a former school teacher.

The trio is accused of working as agents in conspiring together with a syndicate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Africa to illegally enrol students in the health science faculty and school of medicine, news portal Independent online reported on Monday.

The accused chatted to interested parents, negotiated bribes and liaised with university staff who helped get the parents' children enrolled, according to the report.

This was done even though the students involved did not meet the minimum requirements for the courses. The three suspects allegedly charged R250,000 ($19,000) for admission to the health sciences faculty.

They charged R500,000 ($38,000) for a place in medicine. The reports also said that the trio was involved in the sale of examination question and answer papers for an additional R30,000 ($2,278).

The trio were charged with fraud and contravention of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act and were later granted R40,000 ($3,000) bail each in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Their arrest came after a sting operation was conducted by a weekly newspaper on Sunday.

The elite Hawks Organised Crime Unit raided the homes and businesses of the three accused and arrested them last week. Their passports were confiscated and they have been asked to report to the Durban North Police station once a week.

Police seized two Mercedes-Benz cars, laptops, hard-drives and flash drives from the Bhatts. At Hiramun's home in Somerset Park, laptops were found hidden in a washing machine, the report said.

Documents pertaining to the syndicate were also seized, according to the report. The trio was also asked to refrain from contacting any witnesses or staff at UKZN.

Hawks investigator Mandla Mkhwanazi said more arrests were on the cards and that the investigation was at a sensitive stage hence too much information could not be divulged.

The accused will appear in court again in August for the state to prepare its investigation.

This Breakthrough "Superfuel" is 1,693X More Powerful Than Gasoline

Unearthed in the Andes Mountains, these mysterious crystals contain
what MIT researchers call energy’s “Holy Grail.”

And they could ignite a $7.2 trillion economic revolution!

Below is a satellite photo of the Andes Mountains.

The area marked in red shows the location where a mysterious new superfuel has been discovered.

This fuel is so powerful that it is now threatening to destroy OPEC's global energy monopoly.

According to reports from media outlets like CNBC, whoever controls it will be able to form "The New OPEC."

Now it's becoming so valuable the locals call it "Oro Blanco." Translated that means "White Gold."

And if you look closer at this footage, you'll see that the most powerful economic forces in the world are racing to secure strategic reserves.

Every major auto manufacturer has recently journeyed to this location.

And some of the biggest companies outside of the auto industry are also joining the battle.

Google, AT&T, Costco, Amazon, Apple and even Facebook are planning to run their entire operations with systems that will need this fuel.

They're beginning to wage what the locals call "La Guerra" or "The War" over this superfuel.

And that has put OPEC's very existence in danger.

It's critical you understand what's developing and what's at stake.

Because this could be the most important story happening in the world right now.

Book makes me admire ‘Hannah Yeoh’s God’, says lecturer in report

FMT Reporters | May 17, 2017

UUM lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff says stories and quotations from the Bible in Hannah’s book could influence non-Christians to convert to the religion.

Kamarul-Zaman-Yusoff

PETALING JAYA: A Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) academic claimed today that an autobiography of Selangor assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh, which he bought, could influence him towards Christianity.

UUM’s Malaysian Institute for Political Studies director Kamarul Zaman Yusoff said this was because the book contained “too many stories and quotations from the Bible”.

“The stories can influence readers, including myself, to feel admiration for the greatness of Hannah Yeoh’s God,” said Kamarul in his police report which was published in PAS’ official organ Harakahdaily today.

Kamarul made his police report against Yeoh in response to an earlier one by the DAP assemblywoman.

Yeoh made her report two days ago after a posting by Kamarul on Facebook describing her as an “example of DAP’s biggest hypocrisy”, and accusing DAP of mixing politics with Christian teachings.

The book, Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey, is an account of the life of Yeoh who rose to prominence after winning the Subang Jaya state seat in 2008 with a huge majority, then retaining it in 2013 before being appointed the same year as the country’s first female speaker and its youngest at age 34.

The book has been openly sold since it was launched in 2014, with no restrictions by the authorities.
Kamarul alleged the book attempted to “coax, influence and instigate” non-Christians to convert or deepen their interest in Christian teachings.

Who were the real villians CPM or MCA-UMNO

UMNO, MCA used the communist threat (or used Chin Peng and CPM) to gain Independence from the British. They were collaborating with CPM all the while playing the good and bad cop routine and CPM was supposed to be disbanded and become a political party as the secret agreement between UMNO, MCA and CPM but UMNO and MCA choose to backtrack and renegade on their agreement in 1955 Baling talks and CPM had no choice but continue the war and punish the real traitors. The British were bling to this secret agreement and MCA had the backing of the CPC and Mao. MCA was the true CPM and CPM was a MCA/UMNO side show .

Perkasa: MCA’s tie with CPC poses serious threats to M’sia

Ibrahim Ali questions the collaboration between the BN component party and the Communist Party of China

UPDATED

KUALA LUMPUR: Malay NGO Perkasa today strongly condemned the move by BN component party MCA to establish ties with the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said this course of action to collaborate on matters including education may pose a serious threat to the country.

He questioned if MCA does not have the necessary resources to develop the nation on their own accord, adding that by proceeding with the cooperation, MCA may be seen as being worse than DAP.

“What do they have to prove? Are they not getting the Chinese support, losing to the likes of DAP that they want to collaborate with a communist party to prove a point and impress the Chinese?

“Will MCA be the ground of bringing in modern day communism to Malaysia? This could make MCA worse than DAP.

“We feel that it is better for MCA to halt, rethink and withdraw their proposal to collaborate with CPC,” said Ibrahim in a press conference at Perkasa headquarters.

He was responding to MCA president Liow Tiong Lai who on May 13 said that his party and CPC have agreed to cooperate in several education and cultural fields, including the exchange of research findings of their respective think tanks.

Liow in a statement in Chinese said these agreements were reached after a high-level MCA delegation led by him met with Song Tao, the director of the international liaisons department of the CPC the week prior.

Liow, who is also the Transport Minister, said in the field of education, CPC agreed to provide scholarships to Malaysian students seeking tertiary education in China, and raising the scholarship quota for Malaysian students.

Putrajaya must make a stand

Ibrahim said whatever reasons MCA may have, CPC is still a political party based on the communist ideology which has long been banned in the country.

“Since young, we were taught that such ideology which doesn’t believe in God is very dangerous and unacceptable in Malaysia.

“Will communism be absorbed into our education? Will there be student exchange programmes with pupils who practise the communist ideology in the cadres training?” asked Ibrahim.

He said an official letter will be submitted to the Inspector General of Police, National Security Council Director General and the Registrar of Societies, with copies to Prime Minister Najib Razak and Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for them to make a stand on the matter.

“What is Malaysia’s stand policy and security wise on cooperating with the Communist Party of China. Is it possible?

“If this is allowed by the government, will they then recognise and allow a communist party in Malaysia to be formed?” he asked.

Umno must clarify MOU with CPC

Earlier today, MCA religious harmony bureau chief Ti Lian Ker, in a statement, questioned Perkasa why it singled out MCA’s links with the CPC but overlooked the fact that Umno had inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the CPC in August 2010.

Umno secretary general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor signed the MOU on cooperation to have youth leadership exchanges so that the youth leaders of both countries can have a better understanding of the economic and social developments in Malaysia and China.

Commenting on the matter, Ibrahim urged Tengku Adnan to explain the full content of the MOU to the public so that no confusion arises among the public in the near future.

“If Ti can reveal that there is education training involved in the collaboration I want him to expose it.

“I feel uneasy about this too. I may have overlooked it but I don’t think their MOU includes education collaboration. If it does, all I can say is that it will be the end of Umno,” he said.

A 21-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu drowned in the Arabian sea, off Bandra Bandstand here while taking a selfie, police said today.

The incident took place on Monday evening when Meenakshi Priya Rajesh slipped at Bandra Bandstand while taking a selfie with her sister and mother, a senior police official said.

The family had come to Mumbai for a vacation.

Miss Meenakshi's father had warned her against taking a selfie. She lost balance while clicking the selfie and was drifted into the sea, he said.

Her body was found later in the day. She was taken to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, police added.

Chandigarh's Once-Beautiful Sukhna Lake Goes Dry, Shrunk by 57%

Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, India, is a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas. This 3 km² rainfed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills.
Area1.158 mi²LocationSector 1, Chandigarh - 160009 (PIN)Max. depth16 ft (4.9 m)Average depth8 ft (2.4 m)Basin countriesIndiaCitiesChandigarh

Large patches of dry bed, more than 50 per cent of the water body showing its dirty and smelly underbelly of weeds, boating limited to a small area and marine and bird-life affected -- Chandigarh's landmark Sukhna Lake is no more the picturesque water body that used to attract thousands of people every day.

In just under six decades, the area under water of the scenic lake, which has the Kasauli Hills and lower Himalayas in the backdrop, has shrunk by nearly 57 per cent.

While going dry is not entirely a new phenomenon for the rivulet and rain-fed Sukhna Lake, this year is particularly bad as the lake started drying up quite early in the summer.

With monsoon rains over the region not likely to arrive for the next 45-50 days, Sukhna Lake could be headed for one of its worst dry periods.

With an average depth of eight feet and a maximum of 16 feet, Sukhna Lake is barely managing to stay afloat in some parts. The water depth in some areas, where boating is still being allowed in a restricted area, is just about 2-3 feet.

Built in 1958, the Sukhna Lake was spread over an area of three square km. In 2016, the area of the lake under water was reduced to a mere 1.3 square km.

With rainfall over the region not being as high in recent years as earlier, the seasonal rivulets have not been able to maintain the supply of water to the lake. The construction of over 200 check dams in the Sukhna choe (rivulet) and other rivulets, which feed the lake from the catchment areas of neighbouring Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, in the past over four decades, has also meant that the lake gets lesser water from upstream.

"The check dams were constructed to stop silt from coming to the lake. But it stopped the water flow too," Yogesh Kumar, a retired engineer, who has been coming to the lake since the 1970s, told IANS.

The lake complex, which attracts hundreds of visitors, tourists, regular morning and evening walkers, fitness freaks and even lovelorn couples, presents a picture of neglect as far as the water body is concerned.

"We had heard a lot about Chandigarh's Sukhna Lake. But we are disappointed after coming here. The lake has very little water and looks ugly in some parts," Suresh Das, a tourist from Kolkata, who stopped with his family while en route to Shimla, told IANS.

Last year, the water level of the lake was not even close to its maximum water storage capacity of 1,167 feet. Even at the end of the monsoon season, the water level stood at only 1,154 feet. It is down to about 1,151 feet now.

Such is the state of affairs that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had to intervene last year and direct the Chandigarh Administration to list immediate steps to save the lake.

Despite the administration, on the directions of the high court, spending up to Rs 15 lakh ($23,000) to pump water into the lake from five tubewells, the effort hardly helped in saving the lake from going dry.

The high court even appointed an amicus curiae to invite suggestions from experts, environmentalists and concerned citizens to save the lake.

Sukhna, the most popular tourist spot in the city along with the Rock Garden, was built in 1958 by making a three-kilometre-long dam on the Sukhna Choe. It was conceived as a place of relaxation, seclusion and sport by the city's founder-architect, Le Corbusier.

The lake is situated in an upscale and VIP area of Chandigarh, with the governors of Haryana and Punjab, senior officers of the administration and some affluent people residing in its immediate vicinity.

The lake, which is a national wetland, has lost its water body area to silt and forest cover that has grown on this area.

The man-made lake has a capacity of only around 500 hectare metres against the original capacity of over 1,074 hectare metres in the late 1950s when it was built.

In the late 1980s, comedian Jaspal Bhatti and members of his "Nonsense Club" had played cricket on the dry bed of the lake to highlight the plight of the water body. They were chased away by the police.

Boating activity at the lake is very popular with over 100 paddle and rowing boats and some Shikaras' (traditional boats like those in Srinagar's famous Dal Lake) being booked by people daily for boating.

Sad day for the Italian Sikhs as they not allowed to practice their religion in Italy

Italian Supreme Court Rules Against Sikh Wanting To Carry Kirpan In Public

Italian Supreme Court Rules Against Sikh Wanting To Carry Kirpan In Public
The Italian Supreme Court has ruled against a Sikh who wanted to carry a kirpan in public and said that migrants in the Western world must conform to the values of the society they have chosen to settle in.

The Italian High Cassation Court yesterday ruled against the Sikh Indian migrant who wanted to carry a kirpan, a dagger considered sacred in Sikhism, even as it was against the Italian law, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The court said migrants who choose to live in the Western world have an obligation to conform to the values of the society they have chosen to settle in, even if its values differ from their own.

"An attachment to one's own values, even if they are lawful in the country of origin, is intolerable when it causes violating the laws of the host country," the court said.

"The multi ethnic society is a necessity, but it can't lead to the formation of conflicting cultural groups of islands according to the ethnicities they're made up of, precluding the unity of the cultural and judicial fabric of our country, which identifies public safety as an asset to defend and as such bans carrying weapons and objects aimed at injury," the court said.

The Sikh man, who has not been named, was appealing against another court's decision ordering him to pay a 2,000 euros in fine because he had been caught leaving his home in Goito, northern  Italy, armed with a knife measuring nearly 20 cm, BBC reported, citing local media.

AKALI DAL, SGPC UPSET AT ITALY SUPREME COURT RULING ON 'KIRPAN'

The Shiromani Akali Dal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday expressed anguish over the Italian Supreme Court upholding a ban on wearing of 'kirpan' and plan to raise the issue at appropriate platforms to ensure "justice" to Sikhs settled in Italy.

In a statement here on Tuesday, Akali Dal secretary and spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said the Italian court has "ignored" the fact that carrying of 'kirpan' is essential and a mandatory part of religious code of conduct of an 'Amritdhari' (baptized) Sikh.

"It is a question of faith and a fundamental right of a Sikh. Banning of 'kirpan' means that no 'Amritdhari Sikh' will be able to live in Italy after this order," Cheema pointed out.

Cheema said the Akali Dal and SGPC would raise this issue at appropriate platforms to ensure "justice" to Sikhs settled in Italy.

"The party will also take up of the matter with the External Affairs Ministry and urge them to take up this matter with the Italian government at the earliest," Cheema said.

The Akali Dal expressed deep concern and anguish over the decision of the Italian Supreme Court upholding a ban on wearing of 'kirpan', a small sword-like weapon considered a Sikh religious symbol, on the pretext of public safety.

"The decision of the Italian Supreme Court has shaken the Sikh community the world over," Cheema added.

Italy has a large number of immigrants from India, especially Sikhs from Punjab.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Tuesday termed as "unfortunate" the Italian Supreme Court upholding a ban on the 'kirpan' (Sikh sword) and said it will approach External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the matter.

Reacting strongly to the Italian Supreme Court's decision to uphold the ban on kirpan, DSGMC General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa in a statement said: "We will take up issue with Sushma Swaraj and urge her to take up this issue with Italian government."

Terming the court's decision as "most unfortunate", Sirsa said "DSGMC understands the situation where the courts of the concerned country are bound to take up the issues as per the law of the land prevalent in the country."

"Time has now come for the Indian government to play a bigger role to safeguard the interests of the Sikhs throughout the world by taking up with different countries the issue of articles of faith."

He also said that laws in some countries where carrying of articles of faith are banned "needs to be amended for achieving this".

The DSGMC's remarks came after the Italian Supreme Court ruled against a Sikh migrant who wanted to carry a kirpan in public.

The Italian court had on Monday said migrants who choose to live in Italy must respect Italian laws prohibiting the carrying of weapons even though Sikhs regard kirpan as sacred.

The DSGMC General Secretary also pointed out that it was for the Indian government to apprise these countries of the importance of the articles of faith including five Ks like Kirpan, Kara, Kangha, Kachera and Kes.

Sirsa said a high level delegation of the DSGMC will soon meet Sushma Swaraj and apprise her on the need to take up the issue with the Italian government.

The Sikh man in the case was appealing against another court's decision ordering him to pay a 2,000 euro fine ($2,195) because he had been caught leaving his home in Goito, northern Italy, armed with a kirpan measuring nearly 20 cm, the Italian media reported.

The man had argued that his kirpan as well as his turban were symbols of his religion and wearing them was part of his religious duty.

MALAYSIA’S DISGRACE SPREADS: SCARRED BY NAJIB & JHO LOW’S 1MDB SHENANIGANS, S’PORE BANKERS ARM THEMSELVES WITH NEW ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING SKILLS

SINGAPORE – The Wealth Management Institute, which helps train private bankers, has launched an anti-money laundering programme.

Since the WMI was started in 2003, anti-money laundering has been part of the institute’s curriculum, which offers short-term courses to full-fledged postgraduate degree programmes.

The WMI Anti-Money Laundering Risk Management Program, sponsored by leading private bank UBS, is the first time the perils of illicit money flows is getting this kind of attention by the institute.

“We are going deep, and going broad,” says Foo Mee Har, WMI’s CEO.

Besides the shared experience of the wealth management industry, the institute is tapping into a panel of industry practitioners so that their pooled expertise can be disseminated via WMI back into the industry.

For now, the industry experts include Jonathan Shih, head of compliance and operational risk control and UBS; David James, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ fiscal crime liaison officer; Ian Wong, deputy director of the Commercial Affairs Department, Jon Page, head of business consulting, Asia Pacific at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence; and Larry Lam, managing director at McGuire Asia and Lem Chin Kok, head of forensic at KPMG Singapore.

The launch of this programme follows last year’s unprecedented regulatory actions taken by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to shut down branches of two private banks, BSI and Falcon, for their roles in shuffling money on behalf of their client Low Taek Jho.

Better known as Jho Low, he is said to be a key person shuffling money on behalf of 1 Malaysia Development Bhd.

“This is a nation-wide effort,” says Foo, when asked if the launch of this programme is in response to the 1MDB fund flows that has thus far led to the conviction of four private bankers last year.

She points out that with 1,500 financial institutions operating here, “Singapore is definitely vulnerable to cross border financial crimes.”

Teo Lay Sie, UBS’ group operating officer Singapore, observes that money laundering is a growing problem for the global financial industry. Some studies estimate that the money laundered is equivalent to between 2 to 5% of global GDP. “Singapore is no different,” she says.

The WMI trains mostly relationship managers and they, being the key point of contact with clients, are now seen as a first line of defence against money laundering. They are then backed by their colleagues in compliance, followed by audit and last but not least, industry partnerships formed by the various players and stakeholders.

Industry experts who spoke at the programme’s launch on May 15 observe that while the problem is widespread, there are moves in the right direction that are taking place.

For example, Shih of UBS sees more and more jurisdictions banding up to combat illegal fund flows by agreeing to common standards. This will have the effect of minimising criminals’ chances of exploiting “arbitrage” opportunities.

Other reasons for the growing complexity include new technologies. For example, social media messaging and crowd funding platforms have emerged as growing ways to transfer funds, says Jason Tan, director of forensics at KPMG.

While the challenges have become more complex, banks, at the very least, are more aware of what needs to be done and are doing so as a result.

Tan recalls how when he was starting out in this field back in 2010, senior private bankers he talked to would baulk at the information they needed to ask their clients as part of the “know-your-customer process”.

“If I were to ask for so much information from my customers, they will just walk down the street to the other bank,” Tan recalls them saying. “This has changed,” he adds.

MALAYSIA’S PROPERTY MARKET: YOU DON’T NEED A CRYSTAL BALL TO TELL WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT…

One would not need a crystal ball or a time machine to be a successful investor.

According to Strategic Property Investor Programme founder Ahyat Ishak, the difference between the most successful investors and the average investors is the former group’s ability to catch the waves of changes before the rest do.

Given that the vast majority of Malaysians are employees with a 9 to 5 job, many may struggle to find time to keep abreast with the deluge of information, as well as to constantly enhance one’s investing knowledge to gain full mastery in this subject.

If you fall into the previous group, you might still be able to profit through coattail investing, which means mimicking the investment strategy of investors with a proven track record.

At the upcoming Star-925, participants would get first-hand knowledge to Ishak’s investment strategy for the year 2017 and beyond.

The next series entitled “5 trends that are changing the property market in Malaysia” will be held at Menara Star on May 20 (Saturday) from 9am to 12pm.

In the talk, Ishak will explain why these trends are poised to change the landscape of Malaysia’s property market.

The trends include information, Transit Oriented Development (TOD), surging values, asset management and the Malay wave.

In regards to the much talked-about TOD, Ishak reckoned that these developments are going to greatly impact our market in a similar fashion to what we have witnessed in Singapore. With this knowledge in mind, investors should capitalise on this opportunity.

Ishak also said that whilst the market may be perceived to be soft, capital values for properties in high demand areas and segment continue to defy gravity. He added that properties which fulfill certain lifestyle needs will enjoy prolonged growth and investors must be aware of it.

Another trend to take notice of is the Malay wave. Ishak said, whilst many may not yet see this trend, he remains adamant that the bumiputra market will propel our property market onto the next bull run.

Last man standing and that is what is going to happen to PAS leadership with no members

HEART SURGERY OR NOT, THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER FOR HADI : PAS GRASSROOTS IN TURMOIL, MULL REBELLION AT ‘EGO’ DECISION TO SPLIT FROM PAKATAN

THEY worked well together in the last two elections and even stood side by side in street demonstrations against Barisan Nasional. Many became friends.

But now, the PAS grassroots are stunned. This after the PAS muktamar in Alor Star recently called for the severing of ties with their former ally, PKR.

The party’s highest decision-making body, the Shura Council, last week endorsed the split with PKR.

“These are the same people we worked with to challenge BN. These are the same people we joined hands with in demonstrations against BN.
“How can PAS now ever think they can go at it alone, without the support of Pakatan Harapan,” said Mohamad Khairudin from Selayang Indah in Selangor.

Khairudin told The Malaysian Insight that he witnessed how the cooperation with PKR and DAP helped PAS secure non-Muslim votes in GE12 and GE13.

His home was the PAS operation centre for the Taman Templer state constituency in 2013.

“This is going to make things difficult for PAS. Lessons from the past elections have taught us that we won’t get anywhere alone. It was with PKR and DAP’s help that PAS candidate Zaidy Talib won the seat,” he said.

Zaidy won by 7,467 votes, beating BN candidate Subahan Kamal in 2013. In 2008, PAS failed to take the seat because the Chinese voters there were unwilling to vote for PAS.

Even Zaidy admitted that it was the urban votes, namely from the Chinese, which delivered victory to PAS.

“Now, PAS has lost almost every Chinese vote,” Khairudin said.

After PAS broke ties with DAP two years ago, the Islamist party split, losing a number of leaders and members to splinter party Amanah.

Now, after ending ties with PKR, there is a belief that some PAS members will stay on the sidelines because they fail to see the wisdom of the party going to the next polls alone.

PAS veteran Ahmad Abdullah said: “PAS is now all mixed up and clueless as to what to do. I know they value the cooperation with PKR, like with DAP and Amanah. They know breaking up will kill PAS.

“But because of their ego, they chose to walk alone. Now that they are not with the others, they appear to be indecisive about working with Umno.”

Ahmad, who spent 58 years with PAS in Johor, leading its youth wing in 1964, is so disappointed with PAS that he resigned from the party after the muktamar.

The 83-year-old took 16 family members and friends with him and went to Amanah. Their departure crippled the Parit Medan PAS branch in Semerah, Batu Pahat, as almost all the committee members left with him.

Apart from Parit Medan, Amanah has set up many new branches – nine in Pontian and six in Sri Gading – in Johor, Umno’s birth state.

Ahmad is just one of many PAS members at the grassroots who had quit the Islamist party after the recently concluded muktamar.

PAS supporter Wan Mohamad Yusof said the three PAS excos in the Selangor government – Iskandar Abdul Samad, Zaidy Abdul Talib and Ahmad Yunus Hairi – should resign from the state administration.

“That would be the mature and best thing to do,” said the man, who has voted for PAS since 1978.

Like him, others who had supported and helped the Islamist party campaign in the past general elections could not believe that PAS would turn its back on allies who helped the party win seats.

Padang Terap PAS Youth committee member Muhamad Kassim said the decision to split with PKR has made it difficult for PAS grassroots.

“Since 1999, PAS and PKR had worked well together in the polls and other activities. Of course, going alone will make us weaker. Just like any person. One person is not as strong as two or three people,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Sudan President, Charged With Genocide, Is Invited to Saudi Summit with Trump

UNITED NATIONS — Sudan’s president, indicted by the International Criminal Court for crimes including genocide, has been invited to a summit in Saudi Arabia alongside President Trump, a Sudanese government spokesman said Tuesday.

If President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan attends the meeting this weekend with Mr. Trump, human rights advocates said, it would be a destructive breach of longstanding American policy.

The United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court but has long sought to ostracize defendants who defy the court’s arrest warrants, including Mr. Bashir, who has led Sudan for nearly three decades.

He was indicted in 2009 and 2010 on charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan’s Darfur region. In refusing to honor the indictments, he has come to symbolize impunity toward the Hague-based court.

The Associated Press quoted unidentified Sudanese sources as saying earlier on Tuesday that Mr. Bashir had been invited to the Saudi summit. His invitation was first reported last week in the Sudanese news media.

The official Saudi Press Agency reported on May 1 that a senior Saudi representative had visited Sudan and met with Mr. Bashir, but the Saudis have not announced that he will attend the summit. Mekki Elmograbi, a spokesman at the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, confirmed that Mr. Bashir had been invited but also did not say whether he would attend.

There was no immediate comment from the White House on whether Mr. Trump knew Mr. Bashir had been invited or whether the two might meet.

“Any interaction by President Trump with al-Bashir in Saudi Arabia, should al-Bashir attend the meeting, would send a terrible signal to the victims of the crimes and raise major questions about U.S. commitment to justice for them,” said Elise Keppler, associate director of the International Justice Program at Human Rights Watch. “Al-Bashir belongs in The Hague facing the charges against him, not hobnobbing with officials in Saudi Arabia.”

Sudan has been a stalwart ally of Saudi Arabia, even sending troops to join the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen.

Mr. Bashir has visited numerous countries since his indictments and could be arrested if he visits members of the International Criminal Court.

Most recently, he was at an Arab League meeting in Jordan, which is a member of the court, but the Jordanians took no steps to detain him. Saudi Arabia is not a member and has no such obligation.

Still, Mr. Bashir has had a few close calls. At a 2015 African Union meeting in South Africa, a court member, he was unable to leave while South African judges pondered whether he should be arrested. He left after President Jacob Zuma of South Africa intervened.

Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDTMAY 16, 2017

WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.

“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.

The documentation of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia. Late Tuesday, Representative Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, demanded that the F.B.I. turn over all “memoranda, notes, summaries and recordings” of discussions between Mr. Trump and Mr. Comey.

Such documents, Mr. Chaffetz wrote, would “raise questions as to whether the president attempted to influence or impede” the F.B.I.

The Events That Led to Comey’s Firing, and How the White House’s Story Changed

Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. It was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence a continuing investigation. An F.B.I. agent’s contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.

This is all horribly sad and it makes me embarrassed for our country. I still can't believe that Trump is essentially getting a pass for bad...

Mr. Comey shared the existence of the memo with senior F.B.I. officials and close associates. The New York Times has not viewed a copy of the memo, which is unclassified, but one of Mr. Comey’s associates read parts of it to a Times reporter.

“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

Document: Representative Jason Chaffetz’s Letter to the F.B.I.
Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey that Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong, according to the memo.

Mr. Comey did not say anything to Mr. Trump about curtailing the investigation, replying only: “I agree he is a good guy.”

In a statement, the White House denied the version of events in the memo.

“While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn,” the statement said. “The president has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies, and all investigations. This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey.”

Mr. Chaffetz’s letter, sent to the acting F.B.I. director, Andrew G. McCabe, set a May 24 deadline for the internal documents to be delivered to the House committee. The congressman, a Republican, was criticized in recent months for showing little of the appetite he demonstrated in pursuing Hillary Clinton to pursue investigations into Mr. Trump’s associates.

What Is Obstruction of Justice? An Often-Murky Crime, Explained

A look at what qualifies as obstructing justice, and whether the accusations against President Trump could fit in that definition.
But since announcing in April that he will not seek re-election in 2018, Mr. Chaffetz has shown more interest in the Russia investigation, and held out the potential for a subpoena on Tuesday, a notably aggressive move as most Republicans have tried to stay out of the fray.

In testimony to the Senate last week, Mr. McCabe said, “There has been no effort to impede our investigation to date.” Mr. McCabe was referring to the broad investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. The investigation into Mr. Flynn is separate.

A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment.

Mr. Comey created similar memos — including some that are classified — about every phone call and meeting he had with the president, the two people said. It is unclear whether Mr. Comey told the Justice Department about the conversation or his memos.

Investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn.

Mr. Trump fired Mr. Comey last week. Trump administration officials have provided multiple, conflicting accounts of the reasoning behind Mr. Comey’s dismissal. Mr. Trump said in a television interview that one of the reasons was because he believed “this Russia thing” was a “made-up story.”

The Feb. 14 meeting took place just a day after Mr. Flynn was forced out of his job after it was revealed he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of phone conversations he had had with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

Despite the conversation between Mr. Trump and Mr. Comey, the investigation of Mr. Flynn has proceeded. In Virginia, a federal grand jury has issued subpoenas in recent weeks for records related to Mr. Flynn. Part of the Flynn investigation is centered on his financial links to Russia and Turkey.

THE DAY’S TOP POLITICAL NEWS

Mr. Trump strongly defended what he called his “absolute right” to share classified information about an ISIS plot with top Russian officials.

Two American officials told our reporters that the intelligence was provided by Israel.
The turmoil has set the White House staff squabbling.
Mr. Comey had been in the Oval Office that day with other senior national security officials for a terrorism threat briefing. When the meeting ended, Mr. Trump told those present — including Mr. Pence and Attorney General Jeff Sessions — to leave the room except for Mr. Comey.

Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.

Mr. Trump then turned the discussion to Mr. Flynn.

After writing up a memo that outlined the meeting, Mr. Comey shared it with senior F.B.I. officials. Mr. Comey and his aides perceived Mr. Trump’s comments as an effort to influence the investigation, but they decided that they would try to keep the conversation secret — even from the F.B.I. agents working on the Russia investigation — so the details of the conversation would not affect the investigation.

PRIVACY POLICY

Mr. Comey was known among his closest advisers to document conversations that he believed would later be called into question, according to two former confidants, who said Mr. Comey was uncomfortable at times with his relationship with Mr. Trump.

Mr. Comey’s recollection has been bolstered in the past by F.B.I. notes. In 2007, he told Congress about a now-famous showdown with senior White House officials over the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. The White House disputed Mr. Comey’s account, but the F.B.I. director at the time, Robert S. Mueller III, kept notes that backed up Mr. Comey’s story.

The White House has repeatedly crossed lines that other administrations have been reluctant to cross when discussing politically charged criminal investigations. Mr. Trump has disparaged the continuing F.B.I. investigation as a hoax and called for an inquiry into his political rivals. His representatives have taken the unusual step of declaring no need for a special prosecutor to investigate the president’s associates.

Five Contradictions in the White House’s Story About Comey’s Firing
The Trump administration has offered conflicting answers about how and why the F.B.I. director, James Comey, was fired.

The Oval Office meeting occurred a little over two weeks after Mr. Trump summoned Mr. Comey to the White House for a lengthy, one-on-one dinner at the residence. At that dinner, on Jan. 27, Mr. Trump asked Mr. Comey at least two times for a pledge of loyalty — which Mr. Comey declined, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.

In a Twitter post on Friday, Mr. Trump said that “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”

After the meeting, Mr. Comey’s associates did not believe there was any way to corroborate Mr. Trump’s statements. But Mr. Trump’s suggestion last week that he was keeping tapes has made them wonder whether there are tapes that back up Mr. Comey’s account.

The Jan. 27 dinner came a day after White House officials learned that Mr. Flynn had been interviewed by F.B.I. agents about his phone calls with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak. On Jan. 26, the acting attorney general, Sally Q. Yates, told the White House counsel about the interview, and said Mr. Flynn could be subject to blackmail by the Russians because they knew he had lied about the content of the calls.

M'sia "dumping ground" for foreigners turned away from Syria trying to join ISIS

over 30 individuals, "high risk", sent to M'sia without knowledge of Msian authorities
made possible by M'sia's visa-free policy and its Muslim nation status

they were not supposed to be sent to Malaysia
We have become dumping ground
we are visa-free nation for many countries
we are a Muslim nation," said one source

these foreigners arrested in Istanbul, Turkey
they were given option to be sent to Malaysia

28 such foreigners have been reportedly traced.

M'sian authorities alerted after individuals entered the country
by then, they had already gone under the radar.

Special Branch acknowledge the "dangerous" trend
raise possibility of attacks planned in Malaysia by foreigners

My comments : In the 1990s I used to meet the people from the Iraqi Embassy here in KL.   I was involved with some NGO people to ship some medicine as aid to Iraq.  They finally did not want the aid.  Some of them were ok but others were downright rude. One of them went about saying 'Malaysians are stupid'. This was in the 1990s.

The guy was correct.  This news report shows how stupid we are. And when you are stupid other 'Islamic' countries take advantage of your stupidity.

What this news report above does not mention is that the country that keeps sending these ISIS terrorists to Malaysia is none other than Turkey.

Terrorists from all over the world try to go and join ISIS in Syria through Turkey. The Turks arrest some of them. Instead of deporting these terrorists back to their home countries, the Turks ship them off to Malaysia.

Why? Because Malaysians are stupid.

We have waived visa requirements for so many Islamic countries. Or we give them VOA - Visa On Arrival.

So all the trash and the rubbish ends up coming to Malaysia.

This report is originally from the News Straits Times and is attributed to intelligence sources.

Rest assured this news will not appear in Utusan Meloya, Berita Hairan or Haram-kah. Cerita hantu, seks, skandals, agama and politik are much more popular than stories about ISIS rejects being dumped in Malaysia.

After these ISIS rejects are Muslims.

Apa nak buat? Malaysians are stupid.

I Told You So - Moro militants have been sighted in Sabah again.

This is from the NST.

LAHAD DATU: Police investigating 5 heavily armed men in Felda Sahabat

men armed with M60 machine gun, M16, M14 rifles

at about 6.20pm, on April 30.

5 clad in camouflage pants, boots, sling bag, red cloth around shoulders

police report lodged at Cenderawasih police station in Felda Sahabat

Sabah Police confirmed report received

probe currently underway

52-yr-old farmer spotted men after hearing people talking

two men approached and asked farmer if Filipino or Indon

men speaking Malay with Filipino accent

farmer replied he was Filipino
five men began speaking Tagalog
telling him their presence was harmless

claimed they had no bad intention
not going to cause any trouble
were there to save people of Sabah

They claimed 37 colleagues had landed
five armed men then left vicinity

farmer related incident to friend before lodging police report
Feb 2013, Filipino gunmen entered Tanduo at Sahabat 16 to claim Sabah

My comments : The report sounds authentic. This event happened 16 days ago on April 30th.  Obviously nothing more serious has happened.

It could have been Filipino special forces on "hot pursuit".  Maybe thats why there is no more news from the Police.

Or it really was a group of MORO militants, which is more likely. How come they can just walk in and out of Sabah at will? What happened to those hundreds of millions spent to beef up security in Sabah?

On May 9, 2017  I blogged the following

It looks like this "incursion" took place even before I last raised this issue.

My point was (and still is) each time there is some meddling or muddling in the never ending "peace process" in Mindanao, the militant factions that are "left out" of the process retaliate with some action.

After the failure of the Mindanao Peace Process brokered by Malaysia, now the Saudi Arabians have stepped in.  There was a meeting among some of the Moro factions in Jeddah on May 8th.

I think this intrusion on April 30th was a warning of what could happen. Most likely Abu Sayyaf and/or Nur Misuari again.

We are not being serious about this at all.
