MCA willing to help woman involved in ‘Mat Lajak’ accident

Looks like MCA is like a plague and even a Chinese in trouble and no money for lawyer fees refuses MCA’s help. This shows MCA now is totally rejected by the Chinese. Why now help but when the incident happen no help came from MCA.

Its Public Services and Complaints Bureau chairman Jason Teoh says the party has been in contact with her since the incident

JOHOR BARU: The door is still open for Sam Ke Ting, the saleswoman charged in connection with a fatal crash involving ‘Mat Lajak’ cyclists last February, to request for legal assistance from the MCA.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chairman Jason Teoh said that the party had been in touch with her family while she was still in remand over the case.

Teoh, who is also the party’s Gelang Patah division chief, said the party had also pledged to provide legal assistance to the 22-year-old as she and her family are not financially sound.

“At that time we offered her our help and legal assistance but when we made follow- ups it seemed that she and her family didn’t want our assistance,” Teoh told Berita Daily.

He said that no reason was given as to why the offer was not taken up by Sam and her family.

“If she needs our assistance she can come forward and meet with us. We can’t help people who don’t want help,” said the MCA central committee member.

Teoh was responding to news that Sam has turned to crowd-funding to foot her legal bill, taking it to her Facebook account asking for the public’s help to collect money for her court case.

Sam said that she needed RM60,000 to cover her legal fees and only turned to crowd-funding as her last resort.

“Based on the February bicycle tragedy in Johor Bahru, I’ve been involved in traffic lawsuit.

“Considering the case has become complicated as a most unwanted issue in our country, I’ve declined offers from several parties and even the public’s help. But as the pre-trial and hearing begin, the legal fees have exceeded my affordable budget. My family is now facing shortage of funds to defend my case in court,” read Sam’s posting on May 26.

Sam also updated the post saying that she had received the needed amount for her legal fees and had deleted her bank information.

She said that she is grateful to the donors for their generosity.

Zahid: Manchester cops broke down doors to arrest our students

Vanesha Shurentheran | May 31, 2017

This has left the three traumatised, he says.

SHAH ALAM: Three Malaysian students were traumatised despite being released by police after questioning regarding the May 22 Manchester bombing, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“From what we know they have been released.

“But they are still traumatised because the Manchester police had to break down their doors to get into their house,” he said at the Inculcating Good Values event here today.

During the press conference at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah mosque, Zahid said the students were currently being housed at the Malaysia Hall in Manchester.

He also advised Malaysian students in Manchester to avoid having weekly discussions or inviting foreign friends over to their abode so as not to raise suspicion.
Zahid said he believed a wrongful report had been made against the students due to their weekly meetings.

The home minister said even though the Malaysian students were questioned, he understands the situation in Manchester.

“We will be working together in whatever way we can if any other information is required by the authorities.

“We will also be working with MI5 and MI6 on counter terrorism.”
Zahid said he was satisfied with the investigation done by the Manchester police on the Malaysian students.

The three students were reported to have been taken to the Longsight police station in Manchester at 5.40pm and released at 9pm.

The suicide bombing at a concert at Manchester Arena killed 22 people and injured scores of others.
Manchester police said at least 16 people had been arrested since the bombing.
The Times reported earlier today that the three Malaysians were “innocent Muslim students” who may have been “used” by Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi, 22.
Friends of the three Malaysian students told the UK daily that Abedi may have taken advantage of the hospitality accorded by them previously.

The students’ address was used by Abedi to avoid detection by police and counter-terrorism authorities in the UK.

The Malaysians were believed to have been staying in the same place for the past four years.
Two of the Malaysians were said to be medical students at Manchester University, while the third was said to be studying at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Wow now we have political whores in Malaysia

Remember this face and name. When General elections are called, avoid her like shit and do not vote for a racial and religious shit stirrer. We can do less with these people in our daily lives. The police not doing anything but if it was a non-Muslim; they will charge his for anything they can . Look at her nose , looks like a nose where the balls can set on it. Looks like a balls rest.

BN rep admits planning to target Sivarasa over mosque speech

Faiz Zainudin and Mohamad Fadli

Halimaton Saadiah Borhan says plan involved various NGOs highlighting issue daily, before she makes her comment.

PETALING JAYA: The issue of PKR’s R Sivarasa allegedly delivering a speech in a mosque took an unexpected turn today when Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Kota Damansara assemblywoman Halimaton Saadiah Borhan admitted she planned the expose with several NGOs.

Asked to elaborate, Halimaton said she would let the NGOs comment first and “at the end I will speak because I am in the midst of planning this thing”.

“Actually, I had planned with the NGOs to bring up this issue every day and then make my comments at the end,” she told FMT.

Halimaton won the Kota Damansara seat after PAS forced a 3-cornered fight in the last general election which resulted in the defeat of the incumbent, Parti Sosialis Malaysia chairman Dr Nasir Hashim, who stood on the PKR logo.

The presence of Sivarasa, who accompanied PKR’s coordinator for Kota Damansara Radzlan Jalaludin, at Masjid An-Nur in Kampung Melayu Subang drew protests from several NGOs and local residents who urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to take action.

The NGOs included Kesatuan Melayu Nasional (KMN), Permuafakatan Ayahanda-Ayahanda Semalaysia (Permas) and the Selangor Consumers and Public Complaints Organisation (PAMPS).

Sivarasa had explained that he only delivered Ramadan greetings to the congregation and joined Radzlan to hand over contributions valued at RM71,000 to the mosque.

“I had also expressed my confidence in the commitment of the Selangor government to continue supporting mosques and suraus in Selangor,” he was quoted as saying in Berita Harian today.
Meanwhile, Radzlan reiterated that Sivarasa did not make any speech with a political message.
“He gave a brief speech, saying he fully supported the state government’s commitment to develop religious institutions, especially mosques and suraus,” he said.

Radzlan advised critics to stop aggravating the situation, adding he was ready to cooperate with the authorities.

“We will give our full cooperation if we are called to give an explanation by the relevant authorities. We don’t want this matter to be sensationalised by irresponsible parties,” he said, adding that the congregation at the mosque had not objected in any way to the presence of Sivarasa on the day in question.

The mosque’s officials declined comment when approached by FMT, saying the matter was under investigation.

“I’m not allowed to say anything because only Jais can make a statement. Sivarasa just made a brief speech,” said Mesni Mohd Dahlan, who is the mosque’s steward.

2 foreigners specialising in ATM robberies shot dead

In Malaysia and if you are a foreigner and a Muslim, you are fast track for a PR or citizenship. This is what happens that you end up getting robbers from neighboring countries.

Bernama | May 31, 2017

Police say they acted on information about the duo's next 'job' in Kota Bharu after two other foreigners they arrested and interrogated told them about it.

KOTA BHARU: Two foreigners shot dead by police last night have been confirmed as from the Wani Gang that specialises in robbing people who withdraw money from Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) at banks.

Kelantan acting police chief SAC Din Ahmad said the duo were identified based on information received from Bukit Aman (federal police headquarters).
Police got the lead yesterday when they arrested two foreigners on a motorcycle in Salor. After interrogation, they revealed that their two friends were in Kota Bharu for a job,” he told reporters here today.

Din said policemen on patrol in Wakaf Che Yeh came across a Proton Wira with the two suspects inside at about 9.40pm.

“Realising they were being trailed, the suspects sped towards Jalan Salor-Pasir Mas but were cornered as police had set up roadblocks.”
One of the suspects then got out and opened fire on a police vehicle, hitting the windscreen and the vehicle’s body.
Policemen returned fire and shot dead a suspect, while the other got out and tried to attack the policemen with a parang. He too was shot dead.

“The suspects, aged between 35 and 45, were Indonesians.  One was a permanent resident (PR) with a Johor address.”

Police seized a 0.38 revolver and two parangs at the scene of the crime.
Din said the gang specialised in robbing people who withdraw large amounts of money from ATMs at banks. The robbers were always armed with sharp weapons.
Police believed the gang had robbed their victims of about RM400,000 in Kota Bharu.

School told to stop dual language programme or face action

What is so wrong for the school children to learn Mathematics and science in English unless the patron political party wants the Indians to remain stupid and remain as the party’s election fixed deposit?

V Anbalagan | May 31, 2017

Parents want Science and Maths to be taught in Tamil, not in English at SRJK Vivekananda in PJ.

PETALING JAYA: Pressure is mounting on the head of the Vivekananda Tamil school here to stop implementing the Dual Language Programme (DLP) or risk legal action.

The DLP allows Science and Mathematics to be taught in English and is aimed at boosting English proficiency and enhance students’ future employability opportunities.

The Vivekananda school’s board of governors and parent-teacher association, together with a body called Child Information, Learning and Develpment Centre (CHILD), have jointly issued a letter of demand to the school to scrap the DLP.

K Arumugam, a trustee of CHILD, said the school had earlier been served a letter on March 31 to suspend the DLP as its implementation was defective and did not comply with the guidelines issued by the education ministry.

“However, the school continued with the programme,” he said.
Today, members of the board of governors, PTA and CHILD went to the school to serve a legal notice on the school headmistress.

“Should the school fail to respond to the notice within seven days, we will file a judicial review in the High Court,” Arumugam told FMT.

DLP was allowed to be implemented in Chinese and Tamil schools in the peninsula last year after the government abolished the Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English programme.
Arumugam said the ministry’s guidelines specifically stated that the DLP must satisfy certain criteria, which included consent from parents in that school.

He said the school must also have competent teachers, adequate resources and the Bahasa Malaysia standard of that school must be higher or equal to the national average.
“In the case of Vivekananda Tamil school, the headmistress selectively implemented DLP despite objections from the board of governors and the PTA.”

Arumugam said he became an interested party as CHILD had conducted studies that showed Science and Mathematics were best taught in the mother language of the pupil instead of in English.
There are 525 Tamil schools and the government has authorised 46 such schools to implement the DLP but six later opted out.

DRAMA AT CHERAS CONDO: MAN BLEEDING & CAUSING RUCKUS DIES AFTER VOMITING AT LOBBY

CHERAS – Residents of a condominium had a rude awakening when they were greeted by the sight of a bloodied, lifeless man near the condominium’s sundry shop.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Chong Kok Sin said an emergency call was made to the Cheras district police headquarters by a member of the public who reported that a man was causing a ruckus at Block C of the condominium at Jalan Pudu Ulu here early yesterday morning.

“The man was bleeding and breaking windows. A few witnesses also told police that he was not a resident at the condominium,” he said, adding that witnesses believed the man was drunk and was not in stable condition.

“At around 6.45am, witnesses said they saw the man lying on the floor, and vomiting at the lobby,” he said.

ACP Chong said another witness tried to calm him down, but was unsuccessful.
The man was later seen staggering to a cellphone shop, about 10m away from the lobby, where he then punched and broke the shop’s glass window, before collapsing.

However, the man later managed to crawl for about 20m more until he reached the sundry shop, where he stopped moving.

Upon seeing this, the security guard called for an ambulance and the police.

ACP Chong said when police arrived, they found the man’s body covered in newspaper, with a deep gash on his right arm.

They also found a trail of blood between the mini market and the cellphone shop.

A post-mortem revealed that the man died of vascular injuries in his right forearm.

The case has been classified as sudden death.

NAJIB AGAIN FLIES THE IDEA OF ABOLISHING VERNACULAR SCHOOLS BUT ADMITS ‘IT’S A POLITICAL LANDMINE’

PUTRAJAYA, 31 Mei -- Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak pada sesi dialog Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) bersama penjawat awam di dewan serbaguna Bangunan Perbendaharaan hari ini.?Sesi dialog dikendalikan Ketua Setiausaha Negara Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.?--fotoBERNAMA (2017) HAK CIPTA TERPELIHARA PUTRAJAYA –

While it would be ideal for Malaysia to have only single-stream schools to unite its multiracial people, the idea is sensitive and akin to a “political landmine”, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

He was responding to suggestions for the government to embrace the concept of single-stream schools and do away with the existing national school system providing a choice in the main language of instruction.

“There are those who suggested that we begin from schools. This is a very sensitive matter, it’s a landmine, political landmine, because we have differing streams,” he said at hte end of a candid National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue session with civil servants on their aspirations for the future.

He said the government has received suggestions to improve the education system by having only one national school where the main medium of instruction in the Bahasa Malaysia, but with electives in Mandarin, Tamil, English and Arabic to broaden their proficiency in other tongues.

“In other words, if a student is [ethnically] Chinese, he goes to the school and he learns three languages. This must be compounded with a good education quality, and his teachers, should not just be from one race, but multiracial.

“So can we accept this model? Let us think through together,” Najib said.

He said that while everyone wanted unity and believed it should be honed starting from school, no one was able to provide a pragmatic and workable solution.

Earlier in the dialogue, an officer from the Education Ministry who only identified herself as Nadia had asked the government to form single-stream schools to better unite the different racial communities.

She said the single-stream schools could strengthen the proficiency of the students in their mother tongues and other languages by offering classes in English, Tamil and Mandarin.

“What I aspire for Malaysia in 2050, is that besides becoming a developed nation, I would like a community which is full of unity and values, and one tool for unity is via education.

“One way for us to inject unity is by having single-stream schools, whereby we make Bahasa Malaysia the main medium, and strengthen the English language, without sidelining Chinse and Tamil languages,” she said.

The debate on the need for a single-stream schooling system has long plagued the nation, creating a divide in the community.

Many support the idea, while supporters of vernacular schools admonished the thought, viewing it as a threat to the relevance of their mother tongues.

The TN50 initiative, Najib’s brainchild, was launched on January 19 to map out Malaysia’s future for the next 30 years in its path to achieve developed nation status.

Could Theresa blow it? Shock poll predicts Tories could LOSE their majority. Survey suggests Labour could GAIN up to 30 seats

Shock poll has found Theresa May could lose her overall majority in the election

YouGov suggests the Tories could lose 20 seats while Labour could gain 30

This would mean the Conservatives falling short of an overall majority by 16

Sources in main parties cast doubt on findings as pound dipped over uncertainty

By Daniel Martin Policy Editor For The Daily Mail and James Tapsfield, Political Editor For Mailonline

Theresa May could lose her overall majority in next week's election, according to a shock new poll.

The first constituency-by-constituency estimate of the result by YouGov suggests the Tories could lose 20 seats and Labour could gain 30.

It would mean the Conservatives falling short of an overall majority by 16.

This would be a catastrophic outcome for the Prime Minister, who called the election when the polls were massively in her favour.

YouGov is sticking by its controversial new modelling technique, despite sources in both main parties casting doubt on the findings.

The dramatic findings caused consternation in financial markets, with the pound losing ground against the US dollar and euro this morning. A solid Tory victory had previously been 'priced in' by traders, but polls have shown the race narrowing.

The YouGov findings contradict every other survey during the campaign so far, suggesting Theresa May faces losing her majority rather than extending it

Theresa May says the only poll that matters is the one on June 8

Mrs May has taken to repeatedly warning that if she loses just six seats, she would lose her majority - handing the keys of Number 10 to Jeremy Corbyn.

The Conservatives' poll rating has fallen in recent days thanks to the unpopularity of the manifesto plans for social care.

The PM's core offer of 'strong and stable' leadership was undermined when she was forced to say that care costs for pensioners will be capped.

Mrs May played down anxieties over the survey today, saying the 'only poll that matters is the one that is going to take place on 8th June'.

'I have a plan for the Brexit negotiations but I have also got a plan to build a stronger and more prosperous Britain,' she said during a campaign visit to Plymouth.

YouGov's model puts the Tories on course to win 310 seats - down from the 330 they had when the election was called.

Labour would get 257 - up from 229, while the Liberal Democrats would gain one to 10.

The modelling allows for big variations, suggesting the Tories could get as high as 345, up 15 - and as low as 274.

The results would still make it harder for Mr Corbyn to become Prime Minister than Mrs May.

YouGov admitted the results were controversial, pointing to significant 'churn' in voting intentions.

But its chief executive Stephan Shakespeare said the model had been publicly tested during the EU referendum campaign - and always showed Leave ahead.

The model is based on 50,0000 interviews over the course of a week.

Last night both Tories and Labour cast doubt over the findings.

And other pollsters such as ComRes and ICM both report that the Conservatives are still way ahead.

OIL WARS IN MALAYSIA: MALAYS, SABAHANS & SARAWAKIANS TO FIGHT FOR SHARE OF PETRONAS’ DWINDLING CASH AS ‘OIL AGE’ ENDS?

From a few years ago I have been warning about the end of the oil age.
But I had a longer term view of 2020 and thereafter.
Since our gomen derives 30% of its revenue from Petronas the implications are obvious.

Who would have guessed that (in 2014) the Saudis would begin their pissing contest with shale oil. So far they have lost the pissing contest.

Oil prices have gone from over US115 per barrel (June 2014) to yesterday’s below US$50 per barrel. And shale oil is here to stay.

Now here is a research based article written by Professor Tony Seba, an economist from Stanford University in California. This guy says that petrol cars will be extinct in just another eight years.

He is tracking developments in battery technology for electric vehicles. The battery technology has reached the “tipping point” of exceeding 200 miles (this is US ok) on one charge. Plus the costs of EVs (electric vehicles) is also reaching the tipping point of going below US30,000 per vehicle.

Prof Seba says these two “tipping points” will combine in a perfect storm and create a massive explosion in EV production. Tesla for example is giving an “unlimited mileage warranty” on its Tesla s because the EV has only 18 moving parts. Service and maintenance costs will be almost zero.

Here is the article in full:

“A Tesla Model S, which has 18 moving parts, one hundred times fewer than a combustion engine car. “Maintenance is essentially zero,” says Stanford University economist Tony Seba. “That is why Tesla is offering infinite-mile warranties. You can drive it to the moon and back and they will still warranty it.”

No more petrol or diesel cars, buses, or trucks will be sold anywhere in the world within eight years.

The entire market for land transport will switch to electrification, leading to a collapse of oil prices and the demise of the petroleum industry as we have known it for a century.

This is the futuristic forecast by Stanford University economist Tony Seba. The professor’s report, with the deceptively bland title Rethinking Transportation 2020-2030, has gone viral in green circles and is causing spasms of anxiety in the established industries.

Mr Seba’s premise is that people will stop driving altogether. They will switch en masse to self-drive electric vehicles (EVs) that are 10 times cheaper to run than fossil-based cars, with a near-zero marginal cost of fuel and an expected lifespan of 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometres).

Only nostalgics will cling to the old habit of car ownership. The rest will adapt to vehicles on demand. It will become harder to find a petrol station, spares, or anybody to fix the 2000 moving parts that bedevil the internal combustion engine. Dealers will disappear by 2024.

Cities will ban human drivers once the data confirms how dangerous they can be behind a wheel. This will spread to suburbs, and then beyond. There will be a “mass stranding of existing vehicles”. The value of second-hard cars will plunge. You will have to pay to dispose of your old vehicle.

It is a twin “death spiral” for big oil and big autos, with ugly implications for some big companies on the London Stock Exchange unless they adapt in time.

The long-term price of crude will fall to $US25 a barrel. Most forms of shale and deep-water drilling will no longer be viable. Assets will be stranded. Scotland will forfeit any North Sea bonanza. Russia, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Venezuela will be in trouble.

It is an existential threat to Ford, General Motors, and the German car industry. They will face a choice between manufacturing EVs in a brutal low-profit market, or reinventing themselves a self-drive service companies, variants of Uber and Lyft.

They are in the wrong business. The next generation of cars will be “computers on wheels”. Google, Apple, and Foxconn have the disruptive edge, and are going in for the kill. Silicon Valley is where the auto action is, not Detroit, Wolfsburg, or Toyota City.

The shift, according to Mr Seba, is driven by technology, not climate policies. Market forces are bringing it about with a speed and ferocity that governments could never hope to achieve.

“We are on the cusp of one of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruptions of transportation in history,” Mr Seba said. “Internal combustion engine vehicles will enter a vicious cycle of increasing costs.”

The “tipping point” will arrive over the next two to three years as EV battery ranges surpass 200 miles and electric car prices in the US drop to $US30,000 . By 2022, the low-end models will be down to $US20,000. After that, the avalanche will sweep all before it.

“What the cost curve says is that by 2025 all new vehicles will be electric, all new buses, all new cars, all new tractors, all new vans, anything that moves on wheels will be electric, globally,” Mr Seba said.

“Global oil demand will peak at 100 million barrels per day by 2020, dropping to 70 million by 2030.” There will be oil demand for use in the chemical industries, and for aviation, though Nasa and Boeing are working on hybrid-electric aircraft for short-haul passenger flights.

Mr Seba said the residual stock of fossil-based vehicles will take time to clear, but 95 per cent of the miles driven by 2030 in the US will be in autonomous EVs for reasons of costs, convenience, and efficiency. Oil use for road transport will crash from 8 million barrels a day to 1 million.

Insurance costs to fall by 90 per cent
The cost per mile for EVs will be 6.8 cents, rendering petrol cars obsolete.
Insurance costs will fall by 90 per cent.
The average American household will save $US5600 per year by making the switch.
The US government will lose $50 billion a year in fuel taxes.
Britain’s exchequer will be hit at the same rate.
“Our research and modelling indicate that the $10 trillion annual revenues in the existing vehicle and oil supply chains will shrink dramatically,” Mr Seba said.

“Certain high-cost countries, companies, and fields will see their oil production entirely wiped out. Exxon-Mobil, Shell and BP could see 40 per cent to 50 per cent of their assets become stranded,” the report said.

These are all large claims, though familiar to those on the cutting edge of energy technology. While the professor’s timing may be off by a few years, there is little doubt about the general direction.

India is drawing up plans to phase out all petrol and diesel cars by 2032, leap-frogging China in an electrification race across Asia. The brains trust of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a mix of subsidies, car-pooling, and caps on fossil-based cars. The goal is to cut pollution and break reliance on imported oil, but markets will pick up the baton quickly once the process starts.

China is moving in parallel, pushing for 7 million electric vehicles by 2025, enforced by a minimum quota for “new energy” vehicles that shifts the burden for the switch onto manufacturers.

“The trend is irreversible,” said Wang Chuanfu, head of the Chinese electric car producer BYD, backed by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.

At the same time, global shipping rules are clamping down on dirty high-sulphur oil used in the cargo trade, a move that may lead to widespread use of liquefied natural gas for ship fuel.

This is all happening much faster than Saudi Arabia and Opec had assumed. The cartel’s World Oil Outlook last year dismissed electric vehicles as a fringe curiosity that would make little difference to ever-rising global demand for oil.

It predicted a jump in crude consumption by a further 16.4 million barrels a day to 109 million by 2040, with India increasingly taking over from China as growing market. The cartel said fossils will still make up 77 per cent of global energy use, much like today. It implicitly treated the Paris agreement on climate targets as empty rhetoric.

Whether Opec believes its own claims is doubtful. Saudi Arabia’s actions suggest otherwise. The kingdom is hedging its bets by selling off chunks of the state oil giant Saudi Aramco to fund diversification away from oil.

Opec, Russia, and the oil-exporting states are now caught in a squeeze and will probably be forced to extend output caps into 2018 to stop prices falling. Shale fracking in the US is now so efficient, and rebounding so fast, that it may cap oil prices in a range of $US45 to $US55 until the end of the decade. By then the historic window will be closing.

Experts will argue over Mr Seba’s claims. His broad point is that multiple technological trends are combining in a perfect storm. The simplicity of the EV model is breath-taking. The Tesla S has 18 moving parts, one hundred times fewer than a combustion engine car. “Maintenance is essentially zero. That is why Tesla is offering infinite-mile warranties. You can drive it to the moon and back and they will still warranty it,” Mr Seba said.

Self-drivÅ e “vehicles on demand” will be running at much higher levels of daily use than today’s cars and will last for 500,000 to 1 million miles each.

It has long been known that EVs are four times more efficient than petrol or diesel cars, which lose 80 per cent of their power in heat. What changes the equation is the advent of EV models with the acceleration and performance of a Lamborghini costing five or 10 times less to buy, and at least 10 times less to run.

“The electric drive-train is so much more powerful. The gasoline and diesel cars cannot possibly compete,” Mr Seba said. The parallel is what happened to film cameras – and to Kodak – once digital rivals hit the market. It was swift and brutal. “You can’t compete with zero marginal costs,” he said.

The effect is not confined to cars. Trucks will switch in tandem. Over 70 per cent of US haulage routes are already within battery range, and batteries are getting better each year.

EVs will increase US electricity demand by 18 per cent, but that does not imply the need for more capacity. They will draw power at times of peak supply and release it during peak demand. They are themselves a storage reservoir, helping to smooth the effects of intermittent solar and wind, and to absorb excess base-load from power plants.

Mark Carney, the Governor of the Bank England and chairman of Basel’s Financial Stability Board, has repeatedly warned that fossil energy companies are booking assets that can never be burnt under the Paris agreement.

He pointed out last year that it took only a small shift in global demand for coal to bankrupt three of the four largest coal-mining companies in short order.

Other seemingly entrenched sectors could be just as vulnerable. He warned of a “Minsky moment”, if we do not prepare in time, where the energy revolution moves so fast that it precipitates a global financial crisis.

The crunch may be coming even sooner than he thought. The Basel Board may have to add the car industry to the mix. There will be losers. Whole countries will spin into crisis.

The world’s geopolitical order will be reshaped almost overnight. But humanity as a whole should enjoy an enormous welfare gain.

Conclusion : Just follow basic laws of economics, just follow basic business practises and everything will be fine – for everyone. Besides ‘Mother Nature’ the most powerful forces in the world are ‘Market forces’.

You ignore market forces, you mess with market forces and you will become poor, barefooted and dumb. This is the Sharia and this is the Sunnatullah.

Surah 47:38 – Lo! ye are those who are called to spend in the way of Allah, yet among you there are some who hoard. And as for him who hoards, he hoards only from his Self. And Allah is the Rich, and ye are the poor. And if ye turn away He will exchange you for some other folk, and they will not be the likes of you.

I call this the replacement theory. If you mess up, the system will replace you.

NEWS[INTERESTING]: This Bath House In Tokyo Offers “Naked School” To Attract Younger Bathers

A bath house in Tokyo offers classes to naked learners on topics ranging from comedy to gaming in hopes of getting young people into the tubs, as it tries to revive an age-old tradition in Japan.

Recently, during one of the “Naked School” session at the Hinodeyu bath house, around nine men sat around the bath, listening to an expert on the ancient board game Go.

“I think young people would be interested and come back to communal baths if they knew these kind of classes are offered here,” Tadashi Manayama, a 37-year-old architect, said after class.

The manager, Yunichi Tamura has been operating Hinodeyu with his family since 1939. According to Tamura, many young people had never been to a communal bath because most homes have modern bathrooms.

“I wanted to give them a reason to visit us by offering an odd event like this naked school,” Tamura told Reuters Television.

In its heyday, more than 500 people bathed daily at Hinodeyu near Tokyo’s Asakusa district. Today that number is around 100, he said.

Traditional bath houses, known as sento, once numbered more than 2,600 in Tokyo alone in the late 1960s, but since then have seen a gradual decline and prompted some bath houses to come up with novel ideas to lure customers.

At Hinodeyu, the admission price of 460 yen (RM18) allows anyone to attend a class on the topic of the month. Bathers learned about traditional comedy in April, while the topic for March was the public bath industry.

How To Add Value To Your Resume

By Anoop Virk, 17 May, 2017

Four ways students can ensure they are on the right path to becoming a desirable employee

Summer is around the corner, and what better time to build up your resume? As students, we constantly hear that we need to add value to our resumes, as it is getting more difficult and competitive to find jobs in our chosen fields. Here are four ways to ensure you are on the right path to becoming a desirable employee and standing out of the crowd from other job applicants.

Volunteer

I cannot stress the importance of this enough. Volunteering not only adds a tremendous amount of value to your resume, but it also adds a remarkable amount of value to yourself. Whether it’s volunteering at a homeless shelter or fundraising for a global initiative, it’s extremely important to give back and live your life with purpose. You will be surprised on how much you will learn from volunteering, and the bonus is you get to acquire volunteer hours while making a difference too! This is a win-win situation as you get to better yourself and work on your personal development while assisting others in need.  You will gain valuable skills and experience while helping your community and making a positive difference. This also gives your future employer a chance to see what causes you’re passionate about, and makes you a well-rounded applicant.

Join or start a club

Whether this is a sports club, environment club, activities club, or art club – this is a great way to show your dedication and work ethic. This can be easily done through your educational institution or community centers. In the beginning of the year, most schools have a club day where you can go around and see what you’re interested in, or start your own club. If you start your own club or join one, it shows your commitment, and you’ll develop skills such as working with a team, communication skills, collaborating with others, learning your strengths and weaknesses, multitasking, and troubleshooting. For example, if your field is in environmental sciences and you start a green club, this is great experience on your resume for your future employer to see that you are passionate about the field and like to take initiative.

Internships

Internships whether paid or unpaid, local or global, are great opportunities to gain experience and discipline in the field you want to work in. They are a great networking tool to meet the right people and also gain respected mentors. The bonus is that you could be recruited or employed full time after your internship period.  These opportunities of working for other companies are great resume builders and give you a huge advantage for future employment, and you will have a much better chance of being employed after graduation. This is a notable foot in the door to a company you might want to work at, and provides you real world experience of what your desired field really looks like. Also, an internship is a great opportunity for you to confirm if this is the field or line of work you want to be in.

Enroll in specialized courses

The summer provides you time to take up some courses that could really separate your resume from the rest. This is a great opportunity for you to polish up or gain new skills. For example, if you’re in the field of finance, taking up some advanced economic and accounting classes shows your future employer that you are really invested in gaining knowledge to better your career and future company. In order to be ahead of the game, you need to be acquiring these skills whether it’s taking spreadsheet classes or specialized marketing classes, to make sure your skill set is up to date so that you are a valuable asset to the team.

For a mold-free home

By Peter Jesal, 18 May, 2017

Common household mold can cause a wide range of serious health related issues in humans.

Decades ago our knowledge and understanding of mold was somewhat limited. Today science, research and advanced detection tools have allowed us to understand mold and to find mold in ways that were never before possible.

Common household mold can cause a wide range of serious health related issues in humans. In fact, in large quantities, mold and mold spores can result in severe allergic reactions as well as substantial respiratory problems. If you suspect that mold may be growing in your home, it is imperative that you have a mold inspection performed sooner rather than later.

How does mold grow?

In the simplest of terms, mold thrives on moisture. Mold spores cannot be seen by the naked eye and are easily carried through air currents. Mold spores can land on almost any type of surface that is suitable for its growth. Any location inside or outside where there is moisture, warmth and darkness will support the growth of mold.

The growth process can begin in as little as 24 hours after spores become wet. Anywhere that water or moisture is present can be the perfect breeding ground for mold development. Leaky pipes, floods and spills can all promote unwanted growth.

Where does mold grow?

As stated, mold can grow anywhere that there is moisture. A leaking roof, leaking pipes or even a wet carpet can all promote mold growth. Basements, kitchens and bathrooms are prime locations for the growth of unwanted mold. In fact, anywhere where there is little to no sunlight, poor ventilation and humidity, there is likely some amount of mold growing or attempting to grow.

What are the signs of mold?

Perhaps one of the most obvious first signs of mold is that of a musty odour. Even though mold is not visible to the naked eye, a musty odour is a clear telltale indication that it may be growing behind walls, under carpeting or in other areas that are not so obvious. Anytime a musty odour or smell is detected in your home, plan for a mold inspection. Another more convincing sign that mold is growing is when you can see it with your own eyes. While mold sometimes looks like common dirt, it is frequently the growth of mold that should be met with immediate action.

Mold can cause allergies

A few of the more common symptoms of mold allergies are skin rashes, itchy eyes, runny nose, headaches, unexplained skin irritation, persistent coughing and sneezing, shortness of breath, sinus congestion, throat irritation, and wheezing.

It is important to note that there are many different types of molds and mold spores in existence. That said the reaction to mold exposure varies substantially. The most toxic molds can have a very serious effect on human health. These highly toxic types of mold produce hazardous chemicals known as mycotoxins.

Unlike the common symptoms associated with regular mold allergies, the symptoms of extremely toxic mold exposure include organ damage, various cancers, bleeding, impairment of mental function, and loss of life in severe cases.

How do I prevent mold growth?

Staying proactive when it comes to a leaking roof, leaking pipes and even a leaking shower or any other type of water leakage is the best way to stop mold growth in its tracks. Even less obvious condensation that occurs on metal pipes, windows or concrete walls should be suspect and addressed as a way to prevent mold growth.

Reducing humidity through the use of a dehumidifier is also an excellent option. Opening windows frequently to allow for fresh airflow through your home is another good practice. Avoid piling up wet clothing on the floor as this can promote the growth of mold as well.

At the end of the day, having a routine mold inspection performed on occasion is always a smart move for homeowners.

SHOCKING DEVELOPMENT: 3 MALAYSIAN STUDENTS QUESTIONED BY MANCHESTER POLICE OVER TERROR ATTACK

Soon students from Malaysia will be vetted more closely by all other countries and end of the dream of innocent students

KUALA LUMPUR – Three Malaysian students were detained by Greater Manchester police on May 29 for questioning, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement today.

“It is believed that the students were brought to the Longsight police station in Manchester for questioning and all three were released at 9pm (local time),” the statement said.

The ministry advised all Malaysians living in Manchester to report to the High Commission of Malaysia in London.

They can do so at the High Commission of Malaysia in London at 52 Bedford Row, London (Contact number: +4402072424308).

“The ministry wishes to advise the public to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of the local authorities,” it said.

So, Why Do More Intelligent People Tend To Be Atheistic?

The question about why intelligent people tend to be atheists dates back to the times of Romans and Ancient Greeks.

The link between intelligence and religion can be explained if religion is considered an instinct, and intelligence the ability to rise above one's instincts. This is the suggestion by Edward Dutton of the Ulster Institute for Social Research in the UK and Dimitri Van der Linden of the Rotterdam University in the Netherlands.

The Intelligence-Mismatch Association Model proposed by the two authors tries to explain why historical evidence and recent survey data in different countries and between various groupings supports the stance that intelligence seems to be negatively associated with being religious.

Their model is based on the ideas of evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa's Savanna-IQ Principles, according to which human behaviour will always be somehow anchored in the environment in which their ancestors developed.

Dutton and van der Linden argue that religion should be regarded as a separate evolved domain or instinct, whereas intelligence allows people to rise above their instincts. Rising above instincts is advantageous because it helps people to solve problems.

"If religion is an evolved domain then it is an instinct, and intelligence -- in rationally solving problems -- can be understood as involving overcoming instinct and being intellectually curious and thus open to non-instinctive possibilities," explained Dutton.

In the proposal of their Intelligence-Mismatch Association Model, Dutton and van der Linden also investigate the link between instinct and stress, and the instinctiveness with which people tend to operate during stressful periods. They argue that being intelligent helps people during stressful times to rise above their instincts.

"If religion is indeed an evolved domain -- an instinct -- then it will become heightened at times of stress, when people are inclined to act instinctively, and there is clear evidence for this," said Dutton. "It also means that intelligence allows us to able to pause and reason through the situation and the possible consequences of our actions."

The researchers believe that people who are attracted to the non-instinctive are potentially better problem solvers. "This is important, because in a changing ecology, the ability to solve problems will become associated with rising above our instincts, rendering us attracted to evolutionary mismatches," adds van der Linden.

The study appears in Springer's journal Evolutionary Psychological Science

MERITOCRACY A KEY PILLAR IN SINGAPORE – SOMETHING UTUSAN EDITORS WOULD NEVER DARE UNDERSTAND: ENVOY SLAMS UMNO MOUTHPIECE FOR ‘BASELESS’ REPORT

UTUSAN Malaysia has come under fire by Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia over an editorial on the changes to the republic’s Elected Presidency scheme, Today Online reports.

Vanu Gopala Menon said the republic wanted to put the record straight on “several baseless and mischievous allegations”.

These include the claim that in Singapore, “meritocracy was always being used as an excuse to discriminate against Malays”, “meritocracy was also open to manipulation”, and that “Malays became weaker and marginalised from the corridors of power”.

Vanu Gopala made the comments in a letter to the newspaper which was put up on Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
“Singapore’s meritocratic system has never been ‘manipulated’ or ‘used as an excuse to discriminate’ against Singapore’s Malay community, or any other community,” he said.

The editorial was written by Awang Selamat, the collective pseudonym of the newspaper’s editors, and published in its latest Sunday edition, Mingguan Malaysia.

Among other things, the editorial said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had started to take steps to pave the way for a Malay leader to assume the Elected Presidency.

While lauding the move, it also noted that some quarters in Singapore had opposed the move to reserve the election for Malay candidates since they would prefer a president to be elected based on merit.

Vanu Gopala said: “Meritocracy is a key pillar of Singapore’s system of governance. Our citizens have access to equal opportunities, regardless of race, language, or religion, and our policies are tailored to that end. Singapore’s Malay community has made significant social and economic progress over the past five decades, not because of privileges, but because of the community’s efforts in a fair and just society. Malay students have also excelled and topped national examinations.”

“We strictly prohibit our people, including the media, from using the issues of race, language, and religion to divide our society,” he added.

“As the head of state, the president is the symbol of the country, and represents all Singaporeans, not just his ethnic group. These are important facts which ‘Awang’ has conveniently omitted in his editorial,” Vanu Gopala said.

Good Riddance – Najib Sold Mahathir’s Junk Proton & British Jewel Lotus

Failure of proton is because of only one reason and because it was 100% Malay

MAY 26 2017

Chinese automaker Geely will be taking a 49.9% stake in Malaysia’s iconic, home-grown, but long-struggling carmaker Proton. Both Proton and Geely’s parent – DRB-Hicom and Zhejiang Geely Holding – are expected to sign the deal by the end of July. Behind the junk Proton is, of course, the crown jewel of the sale – British sports car marque “Lotus”.

In fact, China doesn’t want to waste RM770 million (RM170 million in cash and estimated RM600 million value in terms of injection of “Boyue” SUV platform into Proton) buying a junk Proton with “power window” problem thrown in. But the Government of Malaysia finally agreed to throw in a sweetener – 51% British automaker Lotus – for £100 million (US$130 million; RM555 million).
Proton Car Milo Tin - Preve Drive It To Believe It

Geely initially pulled out of acquiring Proton in March because DRB-Hicom, which is effectively controlled by UMNO crony Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, disagreed to give up its controlling stake. But 49.9% is the closest the Chinese could get without sparking anger among the ethnic-Malay about losing their share, control, pride and dignity to ethnic-Chinese, let alone mainland Chinese.

However, at the same time, Najib administration was desperate of getting rid of Proton, the brainchild of his mentor-turned-enemy former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Proton, founded in 1983 by Mr. Mahathir, received a whopping RM1.5 billion in government aid last year alone. The national automaker has been asking billions of dollars of taxpayer’s money for its R&D (research & development).

With the latest deal, Chinese billionaire Li Shufu’s Geely will own a majority stake 51% in Lotus Cars, while Etika Automotive (controlled by billionaire Syed Mokhtar) will hold the remaining 49% of the British carmaker. Both parties – Geely and Etika – will pay £100 million proportionately to DRB-Hicom. This means Geely pays only £51 million (US$66 million; RM282 million) for Lotus.

In Malaysia, DRB-Hicom and Geely will own 50.1% and 49.9% stake respectively in Proton. Proton will issue new shares to Geely for its 49.9% stake. Proton has two factories in Malaysia – one in Shah Alam and the other in Tanjung Malim – with a combined capacity to build 350,000 vehicles a year. But Proton has only been operating at 40% of its full capacity, thanks to its horrible sales.
Lotus Cars

The Tanjung Malim plant alone has annual production of 150,000 cars and designed to have a maximum capacity of one million units per year. In 2016, Proton sales dropped by 30% to 72,290 cars from 102,174 units in 2015, and even lost its market position to Honda. Perodua, a partnership with Daihatsu, is now the biggest carmaker in Malaysia.

Based on HoA (Head of Agreement) sighted, Proton will transfer some non-core assets back to DRB-Hicom prior to the deal, including Proton’s Shah Alam land (250 acres) and 40% stake in Tanjong Malim land development (Proton City) of 3,000 acres. Therefore, Proton will gradually relocate its production from Shah Alam plant to Tanjung Malim plant. So, what could be the issue arising from this?

While the details of the acquisition are sketchy at this moment, Geely is expected to have a management say although it lacks the controlling stake. The Chinese automaker is expected to bring in its own specialists and managers on board to not only manage Proton but to turn it around for profitability. Due to under-capacity, staff retrenchment could be on the table.

From the perspective of business, the Chinese billionaire Li Shufu will show Malay billionaire Syed Mokhtar how to turn around Proton. To drive Proton to profitability, there’s certainly no room for national interest, race protection, bloated staff, inefficiency, cronyism, nepotism and whatnot. And this is precisely why Mahathir Mohamad is crying over the losses of his baby Proton to China.

Upon setting up Proton, Mahathir made sure majority of the master parts suppliers went to his relatives, essentially controlling the supply-chain. All those blood-sucking leeches would be wiped out when the new sheriff transforms Proton based on Geely’s business model. The Chinese will design and control a new supply chain model for new products under Proton’s infrastructure and Lotus’ engineering.

When Geely bought Volvo from Ford in 2010, the Swedish carmaker was a loss-making one. For financial year 2016, Geely’s net profit more than doubled to 5.1 billion Yuan (US$741 million), its strongest growth since 2008, primarily thanks to Volvo’s product design and engineering. Now with the acquisition of Lotus, Geely could enter the sports-car segment.
Volvo V40

More importantly, China will gain footprint into Southeast Asia, an access to ship vehicles tax-free anywhere among the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations – ASEAN – with a combined population of 623 million people. That would be the first step. Lotus Cars’ lightweight chassis technology will be the second step for Geely to gain access to market with stringent fuel-economy rules.

Over time, DRB-Hicom’s function could be diluted as merely sleeping partner, leaving all the heavy-lifting to Geely. The Chinese automaker’s leverage in calling the shot is definitely the huge China market, without which Proton would collapse, as proven when the Malaysian automaker booked about RM1-billion in net loss for the financial year ended March 31, 2016.

There’s a possibility that Geely would use Tanjung Malim plant to build its right-hand drive version of Lynk & Co 01 – a 5-door crossover car designed and engineered by Volvo in Sweden – for the purpose of export to European market such as Britain and Australia. Therefore, there could also be a possibility that the present Proton brand could die a natural death over a long-term period.

But who cares if Proton Saga turns into Power Naga, as long as the consumers get the best value for their money? For as long as one can remember, Proton has been continuously protected by the government. Protected like endangered species, Proton sucks up a variety of government assistance including waived taxes, totalling up to RM13.9 billion since its inception in 1983.

Proton’s domestic market share had peaked at 74% in 1993, and plunges like a rock to current 15% despite multiple restructuring plans in 2009 and 2012. Thanks to Najib-Mahathir rivalry, not to mention a drying national coffer thanks to Najib’s mismanagement, Proton is being given a “forced graduation”. Geely could be the bitter medicine that Proton badly needs all this while.

Still, paying RM282 million for ownership of Lotus engineering is fabulously cheap to Zhejiang Geely Holding. If Proton could thrive under the Chinese automaker, it would prove that it was extremely shameful for Mahathir, and ultra-Malays, crying for a continuous protectionism simply because they hadn’t a clue how to make Proton-Lotus works.

The 5 Biggest Winners Of The Electric Car Boom

By Charles Kennedy - May 29, 2017, 6:30 PM CDT

We now live in a world where upstart Tesla Motors Inc. is worth more than General Motors (GM).

The new market heroes are heroes of an energy revolution that is putting electric vehicles into the mainstream, building battery gigafactories to power them, discovering and developing new deposits of lithium and cobalt to feed the revolution, and taking futuristic tech over the finish line so we can have things like self-driving cars.

The world not only wants a major change, it’s already demanding it.

"When you have 400,000 people sending a company $1,000 for a car [Tesla's Model 3] that hadn't been developed yet, that told me the world wants a different platform, different engineering and they want a green car,” Rob Lutts, president and CIO of Cabot Wealth Management was recently quoted as saying on MSN Money.

Bloomberg expects to see a whopping 41 million electric vehicles sold by 2040, and even the autonomous vehicle market looks set to soar—taking things one major step further. Autonomous vehicles sales could reach 21 million sales annually in the U.S. alone by 2035, according to IHS research firm. Globally, that it could reach 76 million sales.

So while Tesla is definitively leading the EV charge, and Google’s Alphabet is leading the artificial intelligence boom for self-driving cars, among other things, the backbone of it all is energy storage and battery solutions that require mega amounts of lithium, for which we’ve already seen the craze, and cobalt—the next in line for a super-metal breakout.

In this space, looking at everything from EVs, self-driving cars, batteries and metals, here are our 5 top stock picks for a New World that’s taking shape RIGHT NOW:

#1 Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA)

We can’t say it enough: Tesla overtook giant GM this year in market cap! And it looks like this isn’t just a fluke. Tesla’s going to maintain its momentum because they are the future. The internal combustion engine is becoming a dinosaur.

Eventually, Tesla’s electric cars will be more profitable than traditional cars, and easier to produce. Costs will keep coming down, especially now that Tesla’s has launched its battery gigafactory in Nevada.

It is entirely feasible that Tesla will be selling over 2 million cars annually in less 6-7 years from now. For next year already, Tesla will be producing 500,000 cars. Even though shares are already soaring, there’s still a long way to go and it’s still a good deal right now.

Tesla’s share prices seem to defy gravity.

#2 US Cobalt (TSX:USCO.V; OTC:SCTFF)

US Cobalt (previously Scientific Metals) is one of the most unique stories in this collection—and it’s one that flies under the investor radar (for now), so this is a superb way to get in on the ground floor of our energy revolution. There is no more exciting metals story right now than cobalt. Why? Because while the lithium craze was lucrative for many, cobalt will be in deficit already this year, and beyond that we’re looking at a 500% deficit.

Even better for producers—and new explorers—the cobalt we DO have comes from a very controversial supply chain in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where it’s mined by children.

Nothing would be better than a new all-American source of pure cobalt—not the ‘accidental’ cobalt that is currently mined as a by-product of copper and nickel by the giant miners. Cobalt is now anything but a by-product; it is a central product in the energy storage revolution.

This is one of the best opportunities for a first-in investor.

US Cobalt in September snapped up the Iron Creek project in the heart of the Idaho Cobalt Belt, which is THE cobalt mineralization trend in the US. And they’ve got a great head start because this property has already seen a lot of exploratory work. There are historic indications of 1.3 million tons grading 0.59% of cobalt. And more encouraging indications of up to 10 million tons. At today’s prices, that’s worth about $1 billion dollars.

And it’s right next to the ONLY advanced cobalt project in the U.S.—so it’s got ‘closeology’ in droves.

Capping it off, it’s led by top-notch management—one of the most important considerations for a small-cap.

Wayne Tisdale is the CEO, and he’s hit some major homeruns in the recent past—the last one was with lithium, and Pure Energy, which launched in 2012 and then saw lithium prices increase 450%. His timing has been impeccable, and he’s doing it again with cobalt.

What we like best about US Cobalt is that it’s American cobalt, and it’s pure, not a by-product. This puts US Cobalt in the extremely unique position of being one of only two pure play cobalt companies in the U.S., and one of only two companies that will put America on the cobalt map to feed the fever pitch EV and battery demand.

#3 Alphabet (NYSE:GOOGL; NASDAQ:GOOG)

Even legendary investor Warren Buffett regrets having missed out on this one earlier on. Alphabet, Google’s parent company with a market cap of over $657 billion, is the second-largest by market capitalization in the S&P 500. We love Alphabet because its foundation is intellectual property—not tangible assets (which are so yesterday).

There is a strong focus on artificial intelligence, and for our purposes, we’re honing in on the use of artificial intelligence for self-driving cars. Indeed, many believe this company is behind the most importance human advances since the moon landing.

The catalysts are everywhere and pervasive. Already in 2017 Alphabet has made a $100 billion market gain. Now it’s trading at well over 20 times its expected earnings for this year. Growth is explosive.

#4 Ford Motors (NYSE:F)

Ford has been through the ringer—yes; but there may be a catalyst in the recent ousting of CEO Mark Fields (he has only been there for 3 years). But what is good here is that Ford sees the future, and the battle for market share. Ford understands that it must kick it into gear and Fields reportedly failed to convince anyone that he was moving fast enough to develop the vehicles of the future (EVs and self-driving cars).

Recently, Ford announced that it would buy self-driving car start-up Argo A1 for $1 billion. The auto giant is clearly ready to dive into the future, even if it’s behind the game.

Ford stock has lost 40% of its value under Fields—so this is probably a good time to get in on it. The drive to the future is Ford’s key motivator, so we expect forward movement. This is our counterintuitive pick …

#5 Albermarle (NYSE:ABL)

The lithium craze has been phenomenal for producers like Albermarle. It might not be as astounding as the cobalt craze is likely to be due to the tighter supply, but it’s an undeniably good bet in any case.

We like chemicals-maker and mining giant Albemarle for its lithium. Catalysts include Australia’s recent approval of the expansion of the company’s lithium concentrate production at its Greenbushes mine—the biggest active lithium mine in the world.

This move will more than double the lithium carbonate equivalent capacity at the mine from 80,000 metric tons per year to more than 160,000 metric tons. Albemarle should start commissioning the expansion in the second quarter of 2019.

Albemarle’s big push now is all about lithium—and meeting a massive future demand spike, sparked by an energy revolution that is in part driven by the introduction of electric vehicles to the masses.

This is an $11.74-billion market cap company with a lot going for it.

It’s a push that’s been very good to Albemarle. Its shares have gained 72 percent in a year, and it has outperformed analyst expectations and earnings for at least four consecutive quarters.

Gold Demand Could Plunge As India Considers New Tax Policy

By Dave Forest - May 29, 2017

 Gold

It’s been a solid year for gold buying in India. With demand in the world’s top-consuming nation rebounding after a series of political setbacks in 2016.

But reports this past week suggest bullion buying across India has once again gone quiet. With consumers waiting for the outcome of a critical new government policy.
The goods and services sales tax.

India’s government has been moving to impose a new sales tax on various goods. With the tax slated to kick in as of July 1.

Gold is one of the products to be taxed. But here’s the problem: the government has yet to specify the exact tax rate for bullion.

Sources in India have suggested the sales tax on gold will likely be set between 1 percent and 5 percent. Representing a significant range of possibilities for extra charges that gold buyers will have to cover going forward.

Reports suggest that buyers have therefore largely halted purchases, as they wait for a final ruling on the tax rate.
Electric Car Boom On Hold As Key Ingredient Vanishes

An extraordinary metal that is vital to the electric car boom is facing a critical shortage. One small company has positioned itself to profit hugely from the coming price shock.

Click here to find out more
The process of setting rates, however, appears to be experiencing problems. With a special government council meeting last week on the issue — but coming away without a final decision.

Reports now suggest the rate will be determined in meetings on June 3. Meaning we could get news next week on the final numbers.

The result will be important for the gold market. If the sales tax comes in on the high end, demand could be impacted. If the figure is closer to the 1 percent mark, the effect will be more muted.

One final point of note: jewelers in India reportedly stocked up on gold ahead of the tax decision. Buying in bulk to get in ahead of the July 1 tax-driven increase in prices.

That could mean less demand over the next few months, whatever the tax rate comes in at — as large inventories work their way through the system. Watch for news on or after June 3 about the tax rate decision, and for stats on gold buying here over the next few months to gauge the effects.

Leaked!! – Here’s Transcript Of President Trump’s Call With President Duterte

When is President Trump going to call Najib and scold him?

Unlike his call in February blasted Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over a refugee agreement and boasted about his victory before abruptly ended the phone call, President Donald Trump placed a super-friendly call to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. The call, made on April 29, was full of praises for the Filipino leader whose administration has killed 6,000 drug suspects in 6 months.

Trump was criticized by members of his Republican Party as well as opposition Democratic Party for inviting Duterte, whose murderous “drug war” doesn’t gel well with the liberal Americans. Duterte, who is also known as “The Punisher” and “Dirty Harry”, had previously called Pope Francis and former President Barack Obama “a son of a whore”.

The Intercept has recently obtained a transcript of the call between Trump and Duterte. Although contains numerous typographical errors, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed its authenticity to reporters. The “friendly conversation” revealed how ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) members were very afraid of North Korea.

The transcript also exposed both Trump and Duterte agreed that only Chinese President Xi Jinping could control and contain the crazy Dictator Kim Jong-un. Trump repeatedly bragged about having 2 nuclear submarines and lots of firepower but the U.S. has no plan of using them, suggesting that using nuclear weapon to terminate Mr. Kim was out of the picture.

President Trump repeatedly invited President Duterte to visit White House – anytime that the Philippine leader likes. It appears that Trump might be visiting Philippine in November based on the transcript. Below is the transcript of the very friendly conversation between the U.S. President Trump and the Philippine President Duterte.
