Pure golden and Diamond smile

World's Most Expensive Grill: Dentists Creates Pure Gold, Diamond-Encrusted Dentures

A set of diamond-encrusted dentures created by a Dubai dentist have been dubbed the world's most expensive.

Created by Dr. Majd Naji, the 24-carat pure gold dentures will give any smile maximum impact from the 160 diamonds surrounding the teeth. The dentures- worth $152,700- have already been verified for authenticity and clarity by the Belgium-based World Diamond Institute, Cover Asia Press reported.

The flashy grills are apparantly selling fast. Naji has already received an order from a royal family member in the United Arab Emirates as well as another from a customer in Qatari. His ideal customers are women.

"This is a gorgeous brace and I'm hoping that more and more women will flock to my clinic to get the dentures," Naji, from the Liberty Dental Clinic, told Cover Asia Press. "Who doesn't want a sparkling smile?"

Once an order is placed it takes only two appointments before the dentures are ready for use, no drilling required. But buyers are warned not to wear them during mealtimes because the teeth are just for show.

Not only will the glitzy dentures please the buyer's vanity, but some of the money will also be donated to the children's charity Dubai Autism Center.

"Last year the people of the United Arab Emirates had bagged the title of having the world's Happiest People," the doctor told Cover Asia Press. "I then thought of designing this beautiful piece and enhancing the smile of not just the owner but also a charity.

"We'll donate a large chunk of the proceeds from the sale of the denture to the children's charity."

The doctor said he hopes to receive more orders from countries around the world.

"Doomsday" seed vault entrance repaired after thaw of Arctic ice

By Alister Doyle

OSLO (Reuters) - Norway is repairing the entrance of a "doomsday" seed vault on an Arctic island after an unexpected thaw of permafrost let water into a building meant as a deep freeze to safeguard the world's food supplies.

The water, limited to the 15 metre (50 ft) entrance hall in the melt late last year, had no impact on millions of seeds of crops including rice, maize, potatoes and wheat that are stored more than 110 metres inside the mountainside.

Still, water was an unexpected problem for the vault on the Svalbard archipelago, about 1,000 km (620 miles) from the North Pole. It seeks to safeguard seeds from cataclysms such as nuclear war or disease in natural permafrost.

"Svalbard Global Seed Vault is facing technical improvements in connection with water intrusion," Norwegian state construction group Statsbygg, which built the vault that opened in 2008, said in a statement on Saturday.

"The seeds in the seed vault have never been threatened."

Spokeswoman Hege Njaa Aschim said Statsbygg had removed electrical equipment from the entrance - a source of heat - and was building waterproof walls inside and ditches outside to channel away any water.

The number of visitors would be reduced to limit human body heat, she said. Some of the water that flowed in re-froze and had to be chipped out by workers from the local fire service.

An underlying problem was that permafrost around the entrance of the vault, which had thawed from the heat of construction a decade ago, has not re-frozen as predicted by scientists, Aschim said.

Temperatures in the Arctic region have been rising at twice the global average in a quickening trend that climate scientists blame on man-made greenhouse gases. Svalbard has sometimes had rain even in the depths of winter when the sun does not rise.

"There's no doubt that the permafrost will remain in the mountainside where the seeds are," said Marie Haga, head of the Bonn-based Crop Trust that works with Norway to run the vault. "But we had not expected it to melt around the tunnel."

Haga said the trust had so far raised just over $200 million towards an $850 million endowment fund to help safeguard seeds in collections around the globe. "That is an extremely cheap insurance policy for the world," she said.

‘MALAY VERSUS CHINESE’ STRATEGY BACKFIRES ON NAJIB’S FACE: ANTI-UMNO MALAY TSUNAMI BLOWS STRONGER IN JOHOR DESPITE WITCH-HUNTING, ANTI-CHINESE CAMPAIGN

May 21, 2017

According to this Bernama story,

Johor BN Will Focus Efforts To Recapture Seats From Opposition

JOHOR BAHRU, May 20 (Bernama) — Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) will focus its efforts to recapture seats lost to the opposition in the last 13th General Election (GE13).

Johor BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said BN would ensure victory, despite the opposition´s confidence of capturing 5 parliamentary seats in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

“Ask the opposition to specify which areas (15 seats) that they want to capture in Johor,” he told reporters after launching the Mega Sale Muafakat Johor´ Carnival 2017 at Pasir Gudang Indoor Stadium, here today.

The Johor Menteri Besar was commenting on a statement by Pakatan Harapan that expressed confident to capture 15 seats in the state in GE14 after a special meeting of the Pakatan Harapan Johor yesterday.

In the GE13, Johor BN won 21 of 26 parliamentary seats. The five opposition seats are Kulai, Gelang Patah, Kluang, Batu Pahat and Bakri and Pagoh.

On the Mega Sale Carnival, Mohamed Khaled said the carnival would be expanded to Iskandar Malaysia as it would help the people in the face of rising prices of daily necessities at the moment.

Not a very well written story, but never mind.

Well, since Khaled asked where are the five parliament seats the opposition is confident of capturing,
let me take a wild guess….errr, one of them should be at his own division of Pasir Gudang where BN’s majority was slashed in 2013 from over 20,000 to less than 1,000.

It’s 935, to be exact.

The others should be Ledang (1,967), Tebrau (1,767), Muar (1,646), Segamat (1,217) and Labis (353).

Out of the 25 parliament seats won by BN by less than 2,000 votes in the last general election, six are in Johor.

That makes it one extra more than what Khaled asked for.

There are several other places in Johor where BN’s majority had been significantly reduced, but let’s save those for another story.

Can BN win back its lost parliament seats in Johor?

For that, maybe we can just look at the majority won by the opposition in Gelang Patah, which is 14,752, Bakri (5,067), Kluang (7,359), Kulai (13,450) and Batu Pahat (1,524).

Maybe Batu Pahat can be taken back by BN.

In the first place, BN was not supposed to lose that seat in the last general election but the Umno headquarter’s decision to ignore Johor liasion committee’s recommendation not to field Mohd Puad Zarkashi there handed the seat to the opposition.

For more on that, read this,

Meroyan kalah pilihanraya

So, what could possibly be Khaled’s strategy to avoid BN from losing more seats, or to put it as he said, to recapture those now with the opposition?

If we look at all those 50-50 seats, they are mostly racially marginal.

That means BN, or to be more precise Umno can’t rely solely on Malay unity in Johor.

It needs to win back some non-Malay votes in the state, especially among the Chinese.

I’m not sure how they can achieve that, but definitely not by the approach of some who went around saying that the next general election will be about Malays versus Chinese.

Some people told me that the Bangsa Johor campaign led by the palace may do the trick as it makes the Chinese happy.

Maybe kut.

Well, I don’t know. Only the Johorean Chinese can tell whether they are happy or not.

As for Malay unity in Johor, it  has always been unity in Umno.

Nothing to do with Umno-Pas unity. That’s why I couldn’t care less about all those perpaduan ummah talks. In Johor, it’s perpaduan Melayu didalam Umno, okay.

Khaled personally told me that 83 per cent of Malays in Johor voted for BN in the last general election.

That’s how strong was Malay unity in Johor.

I believe if not for that, the Chinese tsunami of 2013 would have swept away the state from BN.

In light of the Umno rebellion led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the opposition is expecting a Malay tsunami against BN in the next general election.

They expect Johor to be hit hard by it, thus their confidence in capturing more parliamentary seats in the state.

The last time there was something which could be described as a Malay tsunami was during the 1999 general election.

It was estimated that less than 40 per cent of Malays voted for BN in that election.

The ruling coalition was saved by the Chinese who went all out to vote for it after being spooked by the violent mostly Malay-led Reformasi riots of  Anwar Ibrahim.

Umno, nonetheless, lost a lot of seats with Pas capturing Terengganu that year.

Johor was however untouched by that Malay tsunami.

Johor BN, led by then MB TS Abdul Ghani Othman, won all the parliament and state seats in that 1999 general election. It was an amazing 100 per cent victory at the height of a Malay rebellion against Umno.

Back then, Johor was truly the tiang seri of Umno.

Lets see if it is still so, and whether Khaled can do what Ghani did in leading Johor into what the opposition believe will be another Malay tsunami.

I do hope for Khaled’s sake that he agrees with me that in Johor, it is not wise to stop a Malay tsunami by saying “you are with us or against us”, ‘no retreat, no surrender” and other such stupid things now very popular among some clever Umno people and supposed supporters.

Bear in mind that back in 1999, there were many Johorean Malays who disliked Dr Mahathir for what he did to Anwar, but they still voted for BN because of their loyalty to Umno.  It helps that Johor Umno, then under Ghani, never witch-hunted them.

Maybe Khaled can learn from that.

ROSMAH SUPPORTERS GO BALLISTIC OVER DR M’S ‘WADDLING FATTY’ VIDEO: YO! CHUBBY DUO! DR M NOT BODY-SHAMING FAT PEOPLE – JUST SAYING HE DOESN’T WANT TO BE LIKE ‘SOMEONE’S WIFE’

PETALING JAYA – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been accused of body shaming by mocking fat people in a recent speech.

A viral video that has been circulating online and via messaging apps displays a snippet of Dr Mahathir’s speech in Jitra, Kedah, on Tuesday that shows the former prime minister making fun of fat people.

The video starts with the words: “Is this the standard of our statesman? Standard of a party chairman? Mocking someone’s wife?

Mocking the body size of bigger people?”The video clip then cuts to Dr Mahathir on stage, addressing a crowd.

“Everyone knows I eat too little, that is why I’m skinny,” said Dr Mahathir.
“I don’t want to be fat like certain people who are very rotund. Like someone’s wife, when she walks it’s like (mimics waddling). I don’t want to be like that,” he said.

The video then ends with the words: “Larger sized people should not support low-standard people like this who likes to mock others. Driven by vengeance, Dr Mahathir has gone mad and has lost his class and dignity.”

Donald Trump mocked Obama for bowing down to Saudi King - so he curtsied instead

The President dipped down during a ceremonial greeting, then looked massively uncomfortable having a boogie with a sword.

Donald Trump looked incredibly uncomfortable dancing with a massive sword during his trip to Saudi Arabia.

The US President is set to give a speech later today on tackling Islamic extremism, in his first major overseas trip since becoming President.

And yesterday another of his old tweets came back to haunt him, as he bowed down before the Saudi king for a ceremonial welcome - after complaining several years ago about Barack Obama doing the same thing.

Here's what he said in 2014

UMNO POWER TUSSLE BUILDS UP – TAKE CARE OF ZAHID & HE’LL TAKE CARE OF YOU: ZAHID TELLING UMNO WITH NAJIB AT HELM, REPEAT OF 2008 POLITICAL TSUNAMI IS INEVITABLE?

May 21, 2017 by

IPOH – The 2008 political tsunami proved to be a real lesson for Barisan Nasional and the coalition hopes it will not be repeated in the coming general election, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi .

The Deputy Prime Minister, who was speaking at a Barisan function at Dataran MBI here, reminded everyone how Barisan they lost control of Perak for almost 11 months after the 2013 General Election.

“Push your differences aside. We lost power for 11 months and I remember that time vividly,” he said adding that he did not want it to happen again.

“We must take care of our MB (Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir) and in return, he will take care of you.

“If we hold on to this spirit till the general election, we can surely regain some of our lost seats,” Dr Ahmad Zahid said when launching Barisan Youth’s Job Expo and Aman BN initiative on Saturday.

He also reminded Barisan coalition members to be united at all times to ensure it does well in GE14.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said work for should start now instead of waiting for the dissolution of Parliament and state assemblies.

“We must start now, we must understand the people and work as a team.

“We may have differences of race, religion and language, but for the sake of BN, we shall unite and make our presence felt,” he rallied the crowd.

NEWS[DISTURBING]: 92-Year-Old Paedophile Caught Trying To Meet 11-Year-Old Girl

This is the sickening moment a pensioner has become Britain’s oldest paedophile to be caught trying to meet an underage girl to sexually abuse her.

Meet Ivor Gifford, 92, who was trapped by The Hunted One, a group aiming to catch child groomers by creating fake social network profiles.

They posed as an 11-year-old girl called Jessie and her friend Jodie, 12, to lure him in.

Gifford told police after his arrest: ‘I hope I die before this is out. I know how my family will react.’

A court heard Gifford began talking to what he thought were two girls named Jessie and Jodie, aged 11 and 12. Within just half an hour he began talking about sex and tried to meet Jessie, telling her to ‘wear something sexy’.

Newport Crown Court heard that over several weeks, he sexually groomed her and sent over naked photographs of himself. But unbeknown to Gifford, he was actually speaking to members of The Hunted One.

He was confronted by the group when he arrived to meet the fictional girl at Llanhilleth train station near Abertillery. It was filmed  and the court was shown him arriving at the railway station in a taxi when he is called over by the hunters.

One of them can be heard saying to Gifford: ‘You’re 81 years older than this child. We catch a load of guys – you’re the oldest, it’s unbelievable. When we found out your age, we were shocked.’

The video clip ends with police arriving and leading Gifford into their car.

Iranian Man Sets Himself On Fire Outside Iranian Embassy In Bangkok

A man set himself on fire on Friday, the day of the presidential election in Iran, and attempted to run inside the Iranian Embassy in Bangkok while ablaze.

The flames engulfing the man,  identified as Ari Bayef, 40, were quickly extinguished  with the help of security guards from the embassy and passersby. But the man suffered several burns to his body and was taken to the nearby Camillian Hospital.

According to police, the man was standing across the street from the Iranian Embassy, located on Sukhumvit soi 49/11.

He was seen holding a sign that read “Don’t voted Iris,” along with three words that the police thought to be Arabic. He then shouted in a foreign language before dousing himself with petrol and setting himself alight with a lighter.

The investigation is ongoing, according to a local media.

Iranians on Friday voted in a fiercely contested presidential election in which the incumbent Hassan Rouhani is being challenged by populist Ebrahim Raisi.

5 Killed After A Boat Carrying Almost 200 Passengers Caught Fire In Indonesia!

A boat carrying nearly 200 people caught fire on Friday afternoon in the waters off the archipelago’s main Java island and killed at least five people.

The agency said the fire might have caused by a short circuit in one of the trucks carried on board.

The national search and rescue agency’s operations director, Ivan Ahmad Riski, said 193 people have been rescued. The number of missing was unclear.

The agency’s initial figure for the number of people aboard, apparently based on the vessel’s manifest, was 178.

It is not uncommon for ferries, a regular form of transport in the Indonesian archipelago, to be overcrowded or to carry more passengers than declared.

Riski said survivors told authorities that the fire started on the ferry’s vehicle deck and spread uncontrollably, forcing the captain to order all on board to abandon ship.

In panic, some people jumped into the sea without wearing lifejackets or waiting for lifeboats, they said, according to Riski.

Two helicopters and several ships searched for survivors throughout Saturday.

Petrol cars will vanish in 8 years, says US report from Stanford economist

" A Tesla Model S, which has 18 moving parts, one hundred times fewer than a combustion engine car. "Maintenance is essentially zero," says Stanford University economist Tony Seba. "That is why Tesla is offering infinite-mile warranties. You can drive it to the moon and back and they will still warranty it."

No more petrol or diesel cars, buses, or trucks will be sold anywhere in the world within eight years. The entire market for land transport will switch to electrification, leading to a collapse of oil prices and the demise of the petroleum industry as we have known it for a century.

This is the futuristic forecast by Stanford University economist Tony Seba. The professor's report, with the deceptively bland title Rethinking Transportation 2020-2030, has gone viral in green circles and is causing spasms of anxiety in the established industries.

Mr Seba's premise is that people will stop driving altogether. They will switch en masse to self-drive electric vehicles (EVs) that are 10 times cheaper to run than fossil-based cars, with a near-zero marginal cost of fuel and an expected lifespan of 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometres).

Only nostalgics will cling to the old habit of car ownership. The rest will adapt to vehicles on demand. It will become harder to find a petrol station, spares, or anybody to fix the 2000 moving parts that bedevil the internal combustion engine. Dealers will disappear by 2024.

Cities will ban human drivers once the data confirms how dangerous they can be behind a wheel. This will spread to suburbs, and then beyond. There will be a "mass stranding of existing vehicles". The value of second-hard cars will plunge. You will have to pay to dispose of your old vehicle.

It is a twin "death spiral" for big oil and big autos, with ugly implications for some big companies on the London Stock Exchange unless they adapt in time.

The long-term price of crude will fall to $US25 a barrel. Most forms of shale and deep-water drilling will no longer be viable. Assets will be stranded. Scotland will forfeit any North Sea bonanza. Russia, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Venezuela will be in trouble.

It is an existential threat to Ford, General Motors, and the German car industry. They will face a choice between manufacturing EVs in a brutal low-profit market, or reinventing themselves a self-drive service companies, variants of Uber and Lyft.

They are in the wrong business. The next generation of cars will be "computers on wheels". Google, Apple, and Foxconn have the disruptive edge, and are going in for the kill. Silicon Valley is where the auto action is, not Detroit, Wolfsburg, or Toyota City.

The shift, according to Mr Seba, is driven by technology, not climate policies. Market forces are bringing it about with a speed and ferocity that governments could never hope to achieve.

"We are on the cusp of one of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruptions of transportation in history," Mr Seba said. "Internal combustion engine vehicles will enter a vicious cycle of increasing costs."

The "tipping point" will arrive over the next two to three years as EV battery ranges surpass 200 miles and electric car prices in the US drop to $US30,000 ($40,600). By 2022, the low-end models will be down to $US20,000. After that, the avalanche will sweep all before it.

"What the cost curve says is that by 2025 all new vehicles will be electric, all new buses, all new cars, all new tractors, all new vans, anything that moves on wheels will be electric, globally," Mr Seba said.

"Global oil demand will peak at 100 million barrels per day by 2020, dropping to 70 million by 2030." There will be oil demand for use in the chemical industries, and for aviation, though Nasa and Boeing are working on hybrid-electric aircraft for short-haul passenger flights.

Mr Seba said the residual stock of fossil-based vehicles will take time to clear, but 95 per cent of the miles driven by 2030 in the US will be in autonomous EVs for reasons of costs, convenience, and efficiency. Oil use for road transport will crash from 8 million barrels a day to 1 million.

Insurance costs to fall by 90 per cent

The cost per mile for EVs will be 6.8 cents, rendering petrol cars obsolete. Insurance costs will fall by 90 per cent. The average American household will save $US5600 per year by making the switch. The US government will lose $50 billion a year in fuel taxes. Britain's exchequer will be hit at the same rate.

"Our research and modelling indicate that the $10 trillion annual revenues in the existing vehicle and oil supply chains will shrink dramatically," Mr Seba said.

"Certain high-cost countries, companies, and fields will see their oil production entirely wiped out. Exxon-Mobil, Shell and BP could see 40 per cent to 50 per cent of their assets become stranded," the report said.

These are all large claims, though familiar those on the cutting edge of energy technology. While the professor's timing may be off by a few years, there is little doubt about the general direction.

India is drawing up plans to phase out all petrol and diesel cars by 2032, leap-frogging China in an electrification race across Asia. The brains trust of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a mix of subsidies, car-pooling, and caps on fossil-based cars. The goal is to cut pollution and break reliance on imported oil, but markets will pick up the baton quickly once the process starts.

China is moving in parallel, pushing for 7 million electric vehicles by 2025, enforced by a minimum quota for "new energy" vehicles that shifts the burden for the switch onto manufacturers. "The trend is irreversible," said Wang Chuanfu, head of the Chinese electric car producer BYD, backed by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway.

At the same time, global shipping rules are clamping down on dirty high-sulphur oil used in the cargo trade, a move that may lead to widespread use of liquefied natural gas for ship fuel.

This is all happening much faster than Saudi Arabia and Opec had assumed. The cartel's World Oil Outlook last year dismissed electric vehicles as a fringe curiosity that would make little difference to ever-rising global demand for oil.

It predicted a jump in crude consumption by a further 16.4 million barrels a day to 109 million by 2040, with India increasingly taking over from China as growing market. The cartel said fossils will still make up 77 per cent of global energy use, much like today. It implicitly treated the Paris agreement on climate targets as empty rhetoric.

Whether Opec believes its own claims is doubtful. Saudi Arabia's actions suggest otherwise. The kingdom is hedging its bets by selling off chunks of the state oil giant Saudi Aramco to fund diversification away from oil.

Opec, Russia, and the oil-exporting states are now caught in a squeeze and will probably be forced to extend output caps into 2018 to stop prices falling. Shale fracking in the US is now so efficient, and rebounding so fast, that it may cap oil prices in a range of $US45 to $US55 until the end of the decade. By then the historic window will be closing.

Experts will argue over Mr Seba's claims. His broad point is that multiple technological trends are combining in a perfect storm. The simplicity of the EV model is breath-taking. The Tesla S has 18 moving parts, one hundred times fewer than a combustion engine car. "Maintenance is essentially zero. That is why Tesla is offering infinite-mile warranties. You can drive it to the moon and back and they will still warranty it," Mr Seba said.

Self-drive "vehicles on demand" will be running at much higher levels of daily use than today's cars and will last for 500,000 to 1 million miles each.

It has long been known that EVs are four times more efficient than petrol or diesel cars, which lose 80 per cent of their power in heat. What changes the equation is the advent of EV models with the acceleration and performance of a Lamborghini costing five or 10 times less to buy, and at least 10 times less to run.

"The electric drive-train is so much more powerful. The gasoline and diesel cars cannot possibly compete," Mr Seba said. The parallel is what happened to film cameras - and to Kodak - once digital rivals hit the market. It was swift and brutal. "You can't compete with zero marginal costs," he said.

The effect is not confined to cars. Trucks will switch in tandem. Over 70 per cent of US haulage routes are already within battery range, and batteries are getting better each year.

EVs will increase US electricity demand by 18 per cent, but that does not imply the need for more capacity. They will draw power at times of peak supply and release it during peak demand. They are themselves a storage reservoir, helping to smooth the effects of intermittent solar and wind, and to absorb excess base-load from power plants.

Mark Carney, the Governor of the Bank England and chairman of Basel's Financial Stability Board, has repeatedly warned that fossil energy companies are booking assets that can never be burnt under the Paris agreement.

He pointed out last year that it took only a small shift in global demand for coal to bankrupt three of the four largest coal-mining companies in short order. Other seemingly entrenched sectors could be just as vulnerable. He warned of a "Minsky moment", if we do not prepare in time, where the energy revolution moves so fast that it precipitates a global financial crisis.

The crunch may be coming even sooner than he thought. The Basel Board may have to add the car industry to the mix. There will be losers. Whole countries will spin into crisis. The world's geopolitical order will be reshaped almost overnight. But humanity as a whole should enjoy an enormous welfare gain.

GREAT. I'M ALL FOR IT. WHAT ABOUT DISAPPEARANCE OF MILLIONS OF JOBS. That's THE BIG BIG WORRY.

Why Great Leaders Don't Demand Loyalty

Paul Andrew Smith

Bestselling author ■ Keynote speaker ■ Business storytelling and leadership trainer ■ Wharton MBA

Loyalty is one of those things that sounds like a good idea or an admirable character trait, until you think about what it really means in a real-world situation. One of the creepiest moments in my working career was when my team got a new boss and in our first meeting with her, she looked at us all sternly and said,

"Loyalty is very important to me."
And she made it clear that what she meant was our loyalty to her, personally, as the leader.

It was a surreal moment -- like something out of one of the Godfather movies where the Mafia Don asks his loyal henchmen to kiss his ring and pledge their lives to "the family."

I was thinking after the meeting that I have loyalty to the company, in that I'm not going to do things that help our competitors. But what would it mean to be loyal to my boss? Does that mean I have to blindly support whatever ideas she has or statements she makes? I hope not. They pay me to think at this company, not rubber stamp my boss's ideas.

Does that mean if she gets caught stealing from the company, that I have to lie to keep her out of trouble? I'm not willing to do that.

Does that mean if I ever hear other managers talking about her or her ideas in a critical way that I'm supposed to jump in to defend her, no matter if she deserves that criticism or not? That doesn't sound like honest leadership. And if loyalty to my boss doesn't mean these type of things, what does it mean?

That experience forever changed my thoughts on the importance of loyalty as a character trait. Namely, I don't think it's very important anymore. In fact, in a lot of situations, loyalty is downright unethical. It's the biased and uncritical support of someone or some thing.

Loyalty is appropriate for describing your support of your favorite college football team. You'll cheer for them even if they're the worst team in the league. Maybe it's an appropriate way to describe your support for your children, and for similar reasons.

But your boss doesn't need a cheerleader. What she should need is a smart, capable employee who bases their analysis and recommendations on an honest assessment of the situation -- not based on loyalty. Just like what you need is a smart, capable boss who'll base your next promotion decision on your performance, not on whether or not you've been "loyal."

In most professional environments, a boss who needs loyalty to be successful is unfit for leadership. I supposed there could be exceptions. But for the largely intellectual pursuits most corporate staffers find themselves engaged in, loyalty to leadership is not a trait to be admired, but to be looked at with suspicion.

A leader should earn the trust of thier direct reports, not demand their loyalty.

Chinese Groom Pays 200 Strangers to Act as Guests at His Wedding, Ends Up in Jail

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 May, 2017

Chinese Groom Pays 200 Strangers to Act as Guests at His Wedding, Ends Up in Jail
What was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives turned into a complete nightmare for a young couple in China, after it was revealed that the groom had hired 200 random people to act as his friends and relatives at the wedding.

The groom, known only by his surname, Wang, and his fiancee, Xiaoli, were supposed to tie the knot on Sunday, April 30th, during a big wedding banquet at a hotel in Xian, China's Shaanxi Province.

Everything was going according to plan up to the point when the family of the bride noticed that half of the tables reserved for the groom's guests laid empty. Wang kept telling them that they were on their way, but the bride and her parents really became suspicious of him after talking to the few guests that were seated at his tables and noticing that while they all said that they were Wang's friends, they couldn't really say how they knew him.

With the banquet well underway and Wang's parents nowhere to be found, the 27-year-old bride became convinced that he was lying, so she called the police. When they arrived and started asking the groom's guests questions, some of them cracked under pressure and admitted that they had never met him before.

Some of them were students, other said they were taxi drivers, but they all had something in common - they had been contacted by Wang on social media platform WeChat and offered 80 yuan ($12) to attend the wedding as his friends and relatives. Some of them even pulled out their smartphones and showed police the texts they had exchanged with Wang, as proof.

Local TV station Shaanxi TV broadcast interviews with the fake wedding guests and the confused bride, who told reporters that she and Wang had been together for three years, but that she never suspected he was capable of such a stunt.

"He was nice to me, always paying the bills and tending to my needs," the jilted bride said. "But now that I think of it, we had no common friends and the parents I met were probably also hired."

The wedding drama soon went viral on Chinese social media and was picked up by the BBC, who mentioned that Wang had been arrested following his charade, but didn't offer any explanation as to why that happened. Hiring 200 fake guests to attend your wedding is pretty weird, but I don't think it is a criminal offense anywhere in the world.

Luckily, Chinese news network CGTN cleared everything up earlier today, when they revealed that Wang was detained for fraud. He is accused of swindling over 1.1 million yuan ($160,000) from the family of the bride over the last couple of years. In 2015, Wang reportedly borrowed 400,000 yuan for capital turnover at work, and earlier this year he asked his future in-laws for another 700,000 yuan as dowry money to buy his bride-to-be a car.

After the stunt he pulled at the wedding, the bride and her family were apparently convinced that he was only marrying her for money.

But that's not the only reason he was arrested. While running a background check, police found that Mr. Wang was only 20-years-old, which makes him two years too young to legally get married in China.

CGTN reports that after hearing about Wang's exploits on the news, his real parents showed up and offered to repay Xiaoli and her family the money their son had borrowed

Indian-American Navin Shankar Subramaniam Xavier Jailed For USD 33 Million Fraud In United States

Indian-American Navin Shankar Subramaniam Xavier Jailed For USD 33 Million Fraud In United States

A 44-year-old Indian-American has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for duping over a 100 investors of USD 33 million through fraudulent schemes.

Navin Shankar Subramaniam Xavier, a resident of Florida, was the former Chief Executive Officer of Essex Holdings, the company through which he carried out two fraud schemes.

He was sentenced on Thursday to 15 years in prison by US District Judge Darrin Gayles in Miami.

The first scheme involved nearly 100 investors who purchased USD 30 million worth of promissory notes purportedly secured by interests in iron ore mining in Chile.

The second scheme involved unlawfully obtaining USD 1.2 million in economic development funds as well as valuable industrial property from the state of South Carolina.

Xavier was convicted by guilty plea in January on two counts of wire fraud. One wire fraud count related to the investment fraud scheme and the other count to the South Carolina economic development scheme.

According to documents filed in court, from September 2010 through May 2014, Xavier operated Essex Holdings from an office in Miami and raised more than USD 30 million from nearly 100 investors for supposed investments in sugar transportation and shipping, as well as iron ore mining in Chile.

He used false financial statements, forged documents and false promises of fixed rates of return, to induce people to invest in company.

Most of the money was used for purposes other than what was promised, including to support lavish spending by Xavier and his wife for expensive jewellery, luxury vehicles, wedding expenses, and cosmetic surgery.

Eventually, Xavier used new investor money to pay old investors in a Ponzi-like fashion before the scheme collapsed.

Evidence filed in court showed that the actual investor losses from the scheme exceeded USD 29 million.

The second scheme involved Xavier using Essex Holdings to obtain USD 1.2 million in payments and approximately USD 1.5 million worth of commercial real estate from the South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development (SCCCED), a division of the South Carolina state government, that was supposed to be used to develop a dilapidated industrial property into a diaper plant and rice packaging facility.

According to documents filed in the court, he provided false financial documentation to SCCCED in order to obtain the contract, and later provided fake contractor invoices and fake bank statements in order to get paid under the contract.

As with the investment fraud scheme, Xavier spent a significant portion of the development money for his personal expenses, and wired some of it to the same overseas accounts used in the investment fraud.

Agilan Thani Ready To Make History With Title Win Over Ben Askren

AJ SPRINGER  , ONE FC  May 19, 2017

There comes a time in a dominant martial artist's career when opponents take themselves out of the game mentally, before the opening bell even rings.

With an undefeated record and eight years of supremacy in his weight class, ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren is quickly approaching that status.

At 15-0 and one No Contest, the "Funky" title holder has finished over half of his opponents while dominating the rest en route to decision wins. Stepping into the cage with him is quite a tall order.

However, do not count Malaysia's Agilan Thani among those who have lost the bout in their minds before even facing Askren. Also with an undefeated record himself, the Kuala Lumpur native will challenge the champ in the co-main event of ONE: DYNASTY OF HEROES, which broadcasts live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, 26 May.

For the man known as "The Alligator," putting an end to Askren's title reign began as soon as the contest was announced.

"Most people put him way up there in their minds, so they have low self-esteem about themselves and do not believe in what they can do," the 21-year-old challenger explains. "The key to fighting somebody good is your mind. You have to stay strong and believe in whatever you have."

Thani's toughest battles came long before he thought about his martial arts training, or even stepping inside the cage for an actual match-up. As a kid, he conquered the beasts of bullying and obesity.

After climbing those hurdles and becoming a MIMMA Welterweight Champion in Malaysia's amateur mixed martial arts ranks, the Monarchy MMA product made his professional debut in December 2013. He handily won via TKO.

Thani continued racking up victories and joined ONE Championship, where he has become a seemingly unstoppable force in the promotion's welterweight division. To date, he owns a perfect 7-0 record, with four wins coming by submission and three more via TKO.

The Malaysian's thirst for more reached a boiling point following ONE: THRONE OF TIGERS this past February. Once "The Alligator" submitted Taiwanese combatant Jeff Huang via rear-naked choke in the second round, he demanded a title shot at Askren's gold.

Singapore's Angela Lee defeats previously-unbeaten Taiwan fighter

"I have been competing in ONE Championship for two years now," he says. "I have been winning all the time and finished my opponents, and I wanted to fight someone better than Jeff. I do not want to keep facing pretenders."

Thani has gotten his wish. He will square off against Askren for the belt in the co-headliner of ONE: DYNASTY OF HEROES. However, Thani may have his hands full, because as requested, the American is anything but a pretender.

Aside from his stellar campaign in ONE, the 32-year-old is a two-time NCAA Division I Champion and a former Olympian. With those credentials, along with a perfect professional record, the Malaysian is arguably getting a step up in competition against the top welterweight on the planet.

Askren's accolades do not faze the Monarchy MMA product. In his mind, the battle is already won. He refuses to speak of "ifs," opting to tell the world what will happen "when" he dethrones the seemingly unbeatable champion.

"When I win the title, it will be a great moment, because all these years, my main goal has been to be a world champion," he explains. "And secondly, it will be a great moment for all the people who have supported me - not just my family members, but my teammates from Monarchy MMA, my girlfriend, and my friends."

Defeating Askren will be more than a massive feather in the cap of the Malaysian. For Thani, getting his hand raised means his fellow countrymen can raise their hands in victory, too. After all, he would become the nation's first-ever world champion in mixed martial arts.

"People will finally see a Malaysian win a world title as well, because most people do not believe in Malaysians. They know Malaysians can win local tournaments, but not world titles, and I am about to prove them wrong and set the stage for Malaysia. We can compete and do it at the world-class level."

Uttar Pradesh: Jilted Woman Abducts Ex-Lover At Gun-point From His From Wedding Mandap

The groom — Ashok Yadav, who is still missing — fell in love with the abandoned woman when they used to work at a doctor's clinic.

The groom, Ashok Yadav, had promised to marry the woman, but stopped seeing her after his family fixed his marriage with another woman. The woman and the groom are still missing.

Stories of jilted men forcibly taking away brides from wedding venues are heard of, but in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, a woman set a new trend by kidnapping her ex-boyfriend, moments before he was to tie the knot.

The shocking episode that took place on Tuesday in Bundelkhand has the whole town talking. However, the groom is still missing.

“I have known him for eight years now. I told him that I would not let this wedding happen, but he was not aware that I would take such a step. Even he was not ready for the marriage,” Varsha Sahu, the accused, said.

Following this dramatic series of events, the police was called in to investigate.

Police said the woman, a resident of the Banda district, worked at a private clinic with Ashok Yadav (the kidnapped man), who had an affair with the woman for the past several months.

“The boy was from Banda. What happened was that she came to the venue and took the groom. The girl has been caught and the girl said they are lovers. She also said that the boy was not happy with the wedding and they both love each other,” said Hamirpur Assistant Sub-inspector

According to the locals, the groom — Ashok Yadav, who is still missing — fell in love with the woman when they used to work at a doctor’s clinic. It has also been reported that they were in a relationship before the man agreed to marry a young girl due to family pressure.

The trouble ensued in paradise when the guy wouldn’t return his girlfriend’s calls or WhatsApp messages, said a TOI report. Meanwhile, the bride, Bharti Yadav, inconsolably shed tears and hoped that such an incident wouldn’t befall on her greatest enemies too.

After the unfortunate incident, the groom’s father, Ramhet Yadav, said, “There was definitely something suspicious about my son. When I tried to visit him in the town where he worked, he would not invite me to his home. Instead, we would meet at a temple and feed me at a food stall near there and then send me home.”

2 Texas Men Sentenced To 3 Years In Jail For Assaulting Sikh-American Maan Singh Khalsa

A US court sentenced two men to three years in prison for severely beating a Sikh man in California and cutting off his hair.

Chase B. Little and Colton T. Leblanc, both of Texas, pleaded no contest to felony assault and committing a hate crime against Maan Singh Khalsa during last year's September 25 attack, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

"Both men went out of their way to cut Khalsa's hair, which he maintained unshorn as part of his Sikh faith, 'making this so clearly a hate crime'," said Prosecutor Simon O'Connell of the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office.

Khalsa, 42, appeared before Judge Patricia Scanlon during the hearing in Martinez, California, on Thursday and recalled details of the frightening attack.

"Cutting a Sikh's hair is one of the most humiliating things anyone can do to a Sikh. The attackers did not just attack my body, they attacked my dignity, my spirit, my faith, my religion and my entire community," Khalsa said.

Authorities said Khalsa was driving home on the night of the attack and stopped at a red light in Richmond, near Berkeley, when a car, occupied by five people, pulled up next to him.

“The recognition of the attack as a hate crime–as harm to my dignity and my entire community–is the first step in the process. I still consider you my brothers, and I hope that you will learn about me and my community, and one day consider me your brother, too,” he said according to a statement issued on Thursday by the rights group named The Sikh Coalition.

As beer cans were thrown at Khalsa, a motorist nearby called 911. When the light turned green, Khalsa drove off and called 911 as the truck followed him.

While he stopped at another red light, two men got out of the truck, ran up to Khalsa's car and repeatedly punched his face and yelled profanities.

"My attackers hit me with their fists, knocked off my turban, and yelled, 'Cut his...hair'," Khalsa said in a statement.

"They yanked my hair through the window and used a knife to saw parts of it."

He also sustained a black eye, tooth damage and knife wounds. Part of his little finger was later amputated because of an infection from one of the wounds, the daily reported.

Khalsa, an IT specialist at the Social Security Administration, said he emigrated from India in 2003 and always considered himself an American "like everyone else."

"I had never worried about being a victim of prejudice," Khalsa said.

The finding that the attack was a hate crime was crucial in this case, Prosecutor O'Connell said on Thursday. "That really sent a message to the community to say that this sort of crime won't be tolerated and will be taken seriously," he said.

O'Connell said Little and Leblanc had no affiliation with hate groups and had no remorse to their prison sentences.

The Sikh Coalition said in the last 15 years after the 9/11 attack, Sikhs remained hundreds of times more likely to be targeted in cases of profiling, bigotry and backlash than the average American.

In March this year, a Sikh man was shot in Kent city of Washington state after the attacker told him to “go back to your own country”, it said.

In May, Sikh-American Prabhjot Singh who has experienced hate violence firsthand testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the urgent need to address hate crimes in the United States.

“Acknowledging that this bias-based attack is a hate crime under state law both recognises the deep dignitary harm to Khalsa, and ensures that we, as a society, confront the problems of Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia that make the Sikh community a target for violence,” the coalition’s staff attorney Pawanpreet Kaur said.
