Astronaut takes stunning photos of earth

Well that's trumped your window-seat view on the plane: Astronaut takes stunning photos of airports from space (including a mysterious strip in Australia that could be a secret base)

From bustling commuter hubs in city centres to small landing strips on desert islands, this fascinating collection of images show what airports around the globe look like from space. French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, 39, decided to show his love of aviation by documenting dozens of runways from an extreme vantage point, 250 miles up high on the International Space Station. Pictured: (From top left, clockwise) Dakar International Airport in Senegal, an isolated airport in the desert of an Arabian peninsular, Marseille airport in France and a remote landing strip on an island off the coast of Madagascar.

North Korean leader salutes as his army fires rockets and torpedoes at mock enemy warships during country's 'largest ever' live-fire artillery drills

I think North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un is going to start a war and thinks he is invincible. If he does not, than in the eyes of his subjects and the world he is a coward. He knows his days are numbered but will want to go out in style and cause maximum destruction and cement his legacy as one of the most erratic and brutal leader the world has known. The Nuclear bomb does not have to be on a missile , he can load on is 70 plus submarines and have a submarine on a suicide mission to ram the important coastal cities around the region in South Korea , Japan , China ,Hawaii , Hong Kong , Taiwan and maybe even one to Malaysia for humiliating him. Never know what goes around in his brain.

Just thinking aloud and hope he does not do that .Millions will die needlessly

Kim Jong-Un's North Korean army fired massive rockets and torpedoes during the country's 'largest ever' live-fire artillery drills. Hundreds of tanks were lined up along the eastern coastal town of Wonsan (bottom right) in a show of military strength celebrating 85 years since the North Korean army was created. Kim Jong Un saluted his army (jnset) as he watched the exercises on Tuesday, which involved the firing of more than 300 large-calibre artillery pieces and missiles (bottom left) and included submarine torpedo-attacks on mock enemy warships (top right) - causing huge explosions.

OMG! SINGAPOREANS SCANDALIZED AS NTU PROFESSOR CAUGHT SHOPLIFTING IN FAIRPRICE SUPERMART

In Singapore if you commit a crime no special favours as you have to own up for your act in Court. Cannot say this about Malaysia

SINGAPORE – A Nanyang Technological University (NTU) professor pleaded guilty in court on Thursday (April 20) to two counts of shoplifting.

Er Meng Joo, 55, who is a full professor in electrical and electronic engineering, admitted that he had stolen items including air fresheners and toiletries worth $225.15 in all from an NTUC FairPrice outlet at a Dunearn Road Esso service station in January last year.
Five other shoplifting charges involving items worth $228.20 will be taken into consideration during sentencing.

Er was caught in the act after store manager Lam Wing Kin, 41, reviewed the store’s closed-circuit television footage.

The manager saw Er behaving suspiciously in the store and that he left the store without paying for some items at around 4pm on Jan 27.

The items included a wall charger and two bottles of mouthwash.

Mr Lam also spotted Er shoplifting again at around 9.40am on Jan 29.

This time, he stole items such as a power bank, two air fresheners and a micro USB cable.

Realising Er was a regular customer, Mr Lam traced his name and the vehicle plate number of his car.

He lodged a police report on Jan 30 and Er admitted to the offences when officers visited his home.

On Thursday, the court called for a report to assess his suitability for a mandatory treatment order (MTO).

An MTO is for offenders who suffer from psychiatric conditions.

They must go for psychiatric treatment in lieu of jail time.

Er will be back in court on May 22.

According to the NTU website, he was an elected member of the NTU Advisory Board from 2009 to 2012.

He also served as a member of the NTU Senate Steering Committee from 2010 to 2012.

Er clinched the Most Zealous Professor of the Year Award in 2009 and five years later, he won the Outstanding Mentor Award.

The Straits Times understands that he is still employed at the university.

For each count of shoplifting, he can be jailed up to three years and fined.

OMEN OF DOOM FOR UMNO: ‘NAJIB PREPARED TO JOIN PAS’ – SINAR HARIAN CRIES FAKE NEWS

Can't stop laughing but then again all is possible in Malaysian BN + PAS politics. Love the colour Pink

Sinar Harian has denied publishing an image circulating with its masthead claiming that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is prepared to join PAS.

The image, which features a montage of Najib with both the Umno and PAS logos in the background, has the heading, ‘Jika Umno gagal, saya bersedia masuk PAS – kata Najib’ (If Umno fails, I am prepared to enter PAS – says Najib)…

Sinar Harian chief editor Norden Mohamed said the daily has never published such an article, be it in print or online.

“We deny this report. It has nothing to do with us. Sinar Harian believes this is a deliberate attempt to create a perception…,” he added.

Norden said the image, which had gone viral on social media since this morning, has raised questions among Sinar Harian’s readers.

Last month, the government had launched a website called ‘sebenarnya.my’ to help the public detect fake news.

During its launch, Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said that fake news has become widespread in Malaysia.

“The purpose is to provide a one-stop centre where one can check if the news is false or not… Even the opposition can use this portal if they find incorrect news about them online.
“This portal does not belong to the government, it belongs to the people so everyone should use it to the fullest,” Salleh had said.

‘WE LOSE OUR MONEY TWICE’ – MAHATHIR HAMMERS NAJIB, ASKS WHY HE PAID MONEY TO A ‘FALSE COMPANY’ & NOW M’SIANS HAVE TO PAY TO THE REAL PARTY

PETALING JAYA – Dr Mahathir Mohamad today poured cold water on the announcement by International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) that they had resolved a debt dispute.

The former prime minister, who has been one of the state investment arm’s fiercest critics, said the agreement between the two entities did not resolve anything as it seemed that 1MDB had settled its debt twice.

“The money was transferred to IPIC via Aabar Investments PJS Ltd (BVI), which IPIC claims is not its subsidiary.

“1MDB paid money to a fake company (syarikat palsu). Now it has to pay the actual company, so we lose money twice (kita rugi dua kali),” he said at a press conference here this evening.
Earlier today, however, Second Finance Minister Johari Abdul Ghani revealed the existence of a letter confirming that Aabar Investments PJS Ltd (BVI), or Aabar BVI, is a subsidiary of IPIC even though the Abu Dhabi state-owned firm has denied it.

The minister told Malaysiakini that based on records provided by 1MDB to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), prior to the settlement agreement, Aabar BVI was a subsidiary of IPIC.

He said this was confirmed by the Registrar of Corporate Affairs of the British Virgin Islands through its letter dated Aug 11, 2016.

This week, IPIC and 1MDB announced they had resolved the debt dispute with a conditional US$1.2 billion (RM5.22 billion) deal.

Under the terms of the agreement, reported to the London Stock Exchange, 1MDB will pay the US$1.2 billion in two instalments in July and December to IPIC after proceedings before the London Court of International Arbitration.

The agreement was earlier also criticised by DAP’s Tony Pua and PKR’s Wong Chen.
Mahathir also said that the main question that needed to be answered in this case was where the money that was pumped into IPIC had gone.
“Who acquired the money that was paid to the fake company? Where did it go?”

MUHYIDDIN CATCHES NAJIB’S ACHILLES HEEL: WHO’S BUYING 1MDB ‘UNITS’ – NAME & REVEAL DETAILS IF YOU DARE

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin has questioned how 1MDB would be able to monetise its investments to pay the settlement with the International Petroleum Investment Corporation (IPIC).

“If it is through the sales of 1MDB investment units in Brazen Sky Ltd, who is the buyer of these investments and for how much? Does this investment unit actually exist?” he asked in a statement today.

The settlement announced on Apr 24 would, among others, see 1MDB pay IPIC US$1.2 billion by the end of the year.

1MDB had said that it would do so buy monetising its investments, and has already received the first tranche of US$50 million in cash.

It did not specify which investments are being monetised, but 1MDB has US$940 million worth of investment “units” owned by its subsidiary Brazen Sky Ltd.

Bloomberg last week reported 1MDB will monetise its Brazen Sky Ltd and 1MDB Global Investment units worth US$2.5 billion.

Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani told reporters today that the 1MDB investments involved are worth US$2.4 billion.

Why no one held to account?

The dispute between 1MDB and IPIC arose after 1MDB made US$3.5 billion in payments to Aabar Investments PJS Ltd, which was incorporated in the British Virgin Islands (Aabar BVI).

The money was intended for IPIC’s subsidiary Aabar Investments PJS, which is based in Abu Dhabi, in return for guaranteeing 1MDB bonds. IPIC had claimed that Aabar BVI is not its subsidiary, despite similar names.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin questioned how could such a large sum be transfered to the wrong company, and no one is being held accountable. He asked why is the prime minister and minister of finance did not appear keen to recover the funds sent to Aabar BVI.

When met by reporters in Kuala Lumpur today, Johari pointed to the IPIC’s announcement at the London Stock Exchange saying that IPIC would in fact cooperate to help recover the US$3.5 billion.

“They want to collaborate with 1MDB in order to recover the money, if it has been confirmed that the money has been paid to Aabar BVI,” he said.

Johari: Some things are beyond me

Johari also reiterated that he had proof that Aabar BVI is in fact an IPIC subsidiary, which is the reason he decided to allow the arbitration between 1MDB and IPIC to proceed.

However, the government decided to look after the “bigger picture” by settling the case rather than to allow the arbitration to run its course.

“At the end of the day, the government felt that they are looking at the bigger picture on this, in terms of the relationship between Malaysian and Abu Dhabi and so on.

“So I think that’s’ beyond me. I’m going for the facts, but this is a bigger thing.

“The prime minister has made the decision for the country. That’s it,” Johari said, while stressing that the negotiation was between the Prime Minister’s Office and IPIC.

When asked to show his evidence showing that Aabar BVI is an IPIC subsidiary, he replied, “You don’t trust me? I’ve said it in parliament!”

To another question asking if it would have been better for the arbitration to run its course than to settle, Johari said it was normal for a dispute to be settled outside of an arbitration.

“It’s just like a court case. Everybody have their facts to fight (their case), and then everybody wants to settle out-of-court.

“It’s a normal court process,” he said.

Selangor Wildlife Department Roughed Up An Innocent Farm Owner!!

Owning exotic pets can be very dangerous nowadays even when you own legal permit for those pets.

The 55-year-old businessman, Gary Lim claimed that he was injured in an “ambush” by officers of the Selangor Wildlife Department at his farmhouse.

He said he was caught off-guard around lunchtime when 4 four-wheel vehicle entered the compound of his farmhouse at Kampung Sungai Kamin, Ulu Yam. There was more than 10 uniformed and plain-clothes personnel introduced themselves as from the state Wildlife Department.

When he asked for their warrant to justify their presence at his compound they became angry, handcuffed him and pushed him to the ground.

“I suffered bleeding nose and bruises on my right shoulder and left knee from the fall,” he said.

“I was in pain but they were not interested in helping me. They then went on to seize some of the pets on my farmhouse.

“Several unique pets, including four tortoises,  five blue iguanas, a sugar glider and a gecko (lizard) were confiscated.

“I believe it is unlawful because I have a permit to keep them,” Lim said, adding that he obtained them from pet shops. He also claimed that one of his mobile phones was confiscated as well.

The farm owner said that he was a pet lover which was why he started the farmhouse five years ago after he retired from his furniture business. He has a wide range of domestic animals in his farmhouse, including cats, dogs, chicken, peacocks, birds, swans, geese, and goats.

He said the officers took him to the Ulu Yam Baru police station where they lodged a report on the list of pets seized from his farmhouse. After he was set free, Lim said he made a police report at the same police station against them.

An official of the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) confirmed that a raid was conducted at a farm in Ulu Yam last week, the official also said the raid was conducted following a tip-off that protected species were kept at the premises.

“Under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716), Perhilitan enforcement officers are given the power to arrest any person who is suspected to have committed an offence under the Act.

“The case is being investigated under the Act and related laws,” said the official.

[ANIMAL ABUSE] Cruel Malaysian Man Furiously Sets A Dog On Fire For Biting His Shoes!!

Seriously I just can’t understand why human can be such cruel beings to set fire on animals!
Recently, a Malaysian lady who named Xuan had posted a status stating that a guy who named Tommy Tan had uploaded a video showing him setting a dog on fire for biting his shoes! The video was then deleted after it was shared virally by the netizens on Facebook.

According to Xuan’s status, netizens had downloaded the video before it was deleted and they also found Tommy’s phone number.

The video clearly showed that Tommy was furiously setting his own dog on fire where the dog can be seen struggling in the cage. Tommy was saying he wanted to burn the dog to death in the video. Netizens are all worried that Tommy will end up killing the dog and requested him to show the dog’s condition online. However, he did not answer to Xuan’s phone calls or messages on Facebook Messenger.

After awhile, Tommy had posted a picture of a burnt dog under the comment section.

Xuan had tried hard to contact the abuser but unfortunately, he declined all her calls and messages. She then managed to contact Tommy’s girlfriend to check the dog’s condition. According to the lady, the dog is safe and sound now. The picture that Tommy posted in the comment section is just a picture he took from Google. It is not relevant to the case. The girlfriend even broadcasted a Facebook live to prove Tommy didn’t kill the dog and she hopes netizens will stop spreading the rumours.

Although the dog is safe and sound now, still, Tommy had abused the dog by setting the dog on fire in a cage. It is totally unacceptable to abuse an animal just because it has simply bitten off your possession. You can buy another pair of shoes but you can’t buy a precious life. Please be considerate and treat all the animals equally.

Here’s the video

A Heartless Mother Was Seen Hitting And Abandoning Her Daughter In A Shopping Mart!!

We know kids can be a pain in the a** sometimes, but as a parent, you shouldn’t be hitting them and humiliating them in public, your actions can cause your child to be traumatized for the rest of their life.

Nana Rina Rintul posted videos on her Facebook of a mother hitting, pushing and abandoning her daughter over a missing chocolate. By the looks of the video, this took place in Vietnam.

This mother may think it is child discipline, but kicking your child away and abandoning her isn’t discipline. Kidnappers are everywhere and if you abandon your child like that, don’t be surprised if she got kidnapped.

Just look at her knees all busted up, I believe the girl recording the video went up to the little girl just to keep her safe and attend to her. How kind of her, I hope the little girl is fine.

Don’t know what the local authorities will charge the mother with, but I hope it is something that would teach the mother a lesson, this poor little girl should be traumatized by her mother, I don’t think she wants to go home anymore.

Farouk A. Peru: Maza’s Modi Manoeuvre…Exposed!

The culture of silence in Tahfiz schools and in the Women’s Ministry, Education Ministry, JAKIM and with Jamil Khir Baharom

By Mariam Mokhtar26 April, 2017No Comments

A tahfiz school pupil, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gadaffie, was hospitalised last Wednesday. By Friday, his two legs were amputated. He slipped into a coma on Saturday, and doctors warned that he may also lose his right arm.

Thaqif had been beaten last March, by an assistant warden at his religious school. His mother only found out, when he begged her to take him home. He said that he and 15 of his friends, had been beaten with a water hose. His condition deteriorated and doctors had to amputate his swollen legs, to save his life. By then, the bacterial infection had spread to his right arm.

It has been one week since Thaqif was admitted, and we have yet to receive official statements from some relevant ministries, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, who deals with Islamic Affairs, Jamil Khir Baharom, and JAKIM, the Islamic body which deals with Islamic matters in the nation.

First. The Minister for Women, Family and Community Development is strangely quiet about Thaqif.

Is she not concerned about his welfare? What about the other children who were beaten? Has she checked on their well-being? Will she say something to reassure other parents?

Second. This was a private religious school. Tahfiz schools are private institutions where students learn to memorise the Koran. They are not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and many merely register with the state religious affairs department.

Why are private tahfiz schools not registered with the Ministry of Education? Who oversees standards? Who checks to see that extremist values are not being taught? No one?

Third. The Minister of Education should take the initiative to suspend all religious schools and demand that an inquiry be set up in this particular school and also other schools nationwide.

Why? To see if there are abuses are being carried out. If anecdotal evidence is to be believed, what happened to Thaqif is just the tip of the iceberg.

Fourth. The Minister of Education should grab this opportunity to demand that these religious schools come under its purview, and adhere to strict guidelines, a strict code of conduct and good practices. Otherwise, anyone can set up any school.

Who is responsible for the well being and welfare of the pupils and staff in tahfiz schools? Is there no level of accountability? Who vets the teachers? What is the selection criteria for its teaching staff? Who vets the ordinary members of staff to find out if they have been convicted of other crimes, including sexual assault?

How well-run is the school? Who funds it? Who are the school governors? Is there an active Parents-Teachers association? What are the hostel, toilet, dormitories and catering facilities like? Has the ministry checked the viability of the school curriculum?

Fifth. Are other parents not worried  that their children are also at risk?

It does not matter if their child is in Thaqif’s school, or in other schools where abuses are possibly being hushed-up.

Are parents scared to confront the teachers of the religious schools? Is our indoctrination so strong that to question the teachers may be misconstrued as “going against Islam”.

Sixth. The Johor Islamic Religious Committee chairman, Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim, claimed that Thaqif’s private religious school was one of the state’s leading institutions.

This is shocking news. What does that say about the other schools?

Seventh. In his diary, Thaqif wrote about being beaten and prayed that his parents would transfer him to another school.

Is the headmaster, teachers, and other staff members blind, deaf and dumb? Are they clueless? Did no one see the bruises or hear about the beatings?

Is there a culture of silence in this school? Are beatings condoned? Are beatings part of the normal school operating procedure?

The head teacher is also responsible. It happened under his watch.

Eighth. The Minister of Education is very irresponsible and appears incapable of dealing with religious type schools.

Schools such as this tahfiz school must be registered. Spot checks and regular school inspections should be conducted. These schools must be regulated to gain parents’ confidence and ensure that their children are being well looked after besides getting a sound education.

Ninth. Najib Abdul Razak recently gave RM80 million to registered tahfiz and state religious schools. These schools appear to do the government’s bidding.

Many taxpayers’ probably disagree with tahfiz/religious schools, and would prefer that the allocation be distributed to improve normal-type government  schools.

Why are we aping Pakistani madrasah-style schools, where pupils are brilliant at memorising the Koran (and whipped with chains for forgetting their lines), but are little use for anything else?

Do we need more ulamas in our society, who can tell us a lot about the afterlife, but are clueless about life on earth?

Tenth. Where is the Minister in the PM Department, Jamil Khir Baharom, who deals with religious affairs?

He is good at defending himself when he was alleged to have used taxpayers’ money to renovate his house. He is mute for this religious school scandal.

Poor vetting in religious schools allows criminals to get jobs there. What if the assistant warden was also a paedophile?

The sadist has been arrested for allegedly beating Thaqif. If charged, he stands to lose his freedom, albeit for a few years, whereas Thaqif, suffered life-changing injuries with the loss of his limbs.

Why? All because many people looked away. In addition, the Women and Education ministers, Jakim and the Islamic Affairs Minister, have absolved themselves of any responsibility.

Abused Johor Schoolboy Dies Before Scheduled Operation!!

This is not the first incident in Malaysia religious school and will not be the last case of abuse and death

The little boy was due to have his right arm amputated on Wednesday (April 26) morning. However, the procedure had to be canceled as the boy’s heart rate and condition was unstable.

His father, Mohd Gaddafi Mat Karim, 43, confirmed that his son has passed away at around 2.05 pm at Hospital Sultan Ismail today while they were reciting prayers for his recovery.

The Coverage family would like to wish our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi.

Now that Thaqif has been called back to God, we can only pray for his soul to rest in peace, the young soul has fought for his life and his body couldn’t take it anymore. He deserved a good life, but because of one rotten fruit in the society, a boy’s life was lost.

I hope the 29-year-old ex-convict gets the punishment he deserves for stripping off the life of a bright young boy.

WHO IS THE ‘SOMEONE’: ‘I WAS ORDERED BY SOMEONE TO DO IT’ – RAJA BOMOH REPENTS, SAYS HIS RITUALS WERE PURE DRAMA

Notice his name tag which have an official government logo and the setting of the photo is a government office .

PETALING JAYA – Ibrahim Mat Zin apologised for his bizarre rituals, admitting they were pure drama and that he has repented for mocking Islam.

The self-proclaimed “Raja Bomoh Sedunia” also promised not to repeat his “viral” antics that have been seen by people all around the world and caused embarrassment to the country.

Ibrahim claimed that he was instructed by “someone” to conduct the rituals, although he did not name the person.

“I was instructed by someone to do all this drama to protect their own interests … When that person asked me to do it, I was the one who was at the receiving end.
“I slept at the Dang Wangi lockup for two days and in Jinjang for three days. I have repented, I promise that I will stop all these rituals,” he said at a press conference organised by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) Wednesday.

He also renounced the “Raja Bomoh” title.

Ibrahim was charged in the Syariah Court on Tuesday after his arrest in Segamat on April 21 over his ritual acts.

Ibrahim pleaded guilty to charges of insulting Islam or causing people to have a negative perception of the religion.

He was also investigated for conducting a ritual in Jalan Pekeliling, Kuala Lumpur, to create rain during the El Nino season in March last year.
I told you so , these Bomohs are fake like plastic

Jawi director Abd Aziz Jusoh said that because of Ibrahim’s age and health, he was released on a good behaviour bond for six months and is to be monitored by the Federal Territory Mufti’s office.

Ibrahim admitted at the press conference that his rituals were only for drama.

“All of it was drama, the shaking of the bamboo sticks. I couldn’t see anything inside. I was told to shake the sticks. I took the coconuts as if they were bombs. I didn’t know what I did was wrong,” he said, adding that he only conducted the rituals because he loved the country, the people and his religion.

In March, Ibrahim performed a ritual outside the National Institute of Forensic Medicine at Hospital Kuala Lumpur over the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

He had also performed a ritual using coconuts and sticks on a beach in Bagan Lalang, purportedly to “defend” Malaysia from North Korea.

Ibrahim first made headlines in March 2014 when he conducted two rituals at KL International Airport supposedly to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The Looming Disaster In Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat And Serambi From OutSyed The Box

Would anyone like to guess which country will likely become the first Jihadi state in Europe? Yes in Europe - the orang putih land.

Does anyone recall Bosnia Herzegovina ?  This was the country which Malaysia helped a lot during their  Civil War 1992 - 1995.

Today 25 years later Bosnia is the center of psycho-jihadi salafism in Europe.

Dont believe me? Here is a Google search "Salafi jihadism in Bosnia"

Here is one news report on salafism in Bosnia :

  • ISIS recruitment, Bosnians top list in Europe
  • 300 Bosnians fighting alongside IS in Syria
  • radicalised by Salafist preachers during 1992-1995 war
  • Today Bosnia facing increasingly alarming security situation
  • jihadists calling for terror strikes in Bosnia
  • increasingly dangerous situation for Bosnia
  • laid-back Islam replaced by hardline Salafism

Well folks, Malaysia has certainly contributed significantly to this alarming Salafi situation in Bosnia.  Terima kasih banyak-banyak kepada Malaysia.

Dont forget Malaysia also gave PR status to Abu Bakar Bashir the Indonesian terrorist leader, Hambali the Indon terrorist and Mohamed Iqbal also an Indon terrorist.

Now we have given PR status to another Salafi preacher Zakir Naik.  Bijak sungguh Malaysia. Hooray !

Closer to home, Malaysia has also been screwing up big time in the "peace process" in Mindanao and South Thailand. Yes Malaysia has been screwing up big time.  Here is the latest news.

The Muslim militants set off 18 bombs last week in South Thailand.  In the process two of the militants were killed and 8 people, including 2 Thai policemen, were wounded. Here is some news :

BANGKOK (AP)

dozen grenade and bomb attacks in southern Thailand

2 insurgents killed, explosives detonated unexpectedly

8 civilians and officials wounded in Wed night violence

dead were "insurgent operational leaders."

No group claimed responsibility for 13 attacks
target police stations, checkpoints in 12 districts

South Thailand separatist insurgency for years
7,000 killed since conflict flared in 2004
insurgents carry out bombings, drive-by shootings

first assault since Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) issued rare statement 10/4

to reject talks with Thai govt (as part of MARA Patani coalition)

(Please do not ignore the resemblance of these  names to our own Barisan Nasional and MARA. Do read on.)

BRN most militant group - others have smaller followings

BRN statement called for new talks mediated by impartial 3rd parties

insurgents' reps live in Malaysia, which hosts negotiations

susceptible to pressure from Msian govt

talks should NOT include insurgents NOT representative of active groups . . ! ! !

Thai govt has rejected the proposal

2nd coordinated attack in two weeks
April 7 insurgents set off dozens of bombs
bringing down power lines, setting tires on fire to block roads
spike this month response to March 29 extrajudicial killing of 2 insurgents

want to show they can go after military and police targets
reminding authorities of their capabilities
attacks aimed at forcing Thai govt to accept conditions for talks

My comments :  The way things have been since the 90s, this insurrection in Thailand (just like the Mindanao problem) will never cease until both Patani and Mindanao secede or become more autonomous from Thailand and the Philippines respectively.

I used to write a column called 'Human Rites' in The Sun newspaper.  My very last column (circa 2004) was about Mindanao and South Thailand.  I predicted violence would break out in South Thailand - which it did just a few weeks later.

And now 13 more years have gone by, there is still no resolution in sight and I think there is a more aggressive kid on the block in Southern Thailand who has discovered Salafism.  There will be more explosions in Thailand which may extend into Kelantan.

The problem for the Moros and the Patani folks are the Three Ds : Democracy, Demography and Distance.  Thailand has a population of 70 million people, while the Philippines has a population that slightly exceeds 100 million. The problematic Muslims number about 3-5 million people in both countries.  Both Bangkok and Manila are also about 1000 km away from their troubled southern districts.  Being democratic (including Thailand) democratic processes cater to the majority voters. So 3 - 5 million troublesome Muslims, located 1000 km away in the boondocks will not even be a pimple on the butt of their democracy.  They will be ignored.

If they try to secede or cause too much chaos, 70 million Thais or 100 million Filipinos  will swat 3-4  million "trouble causers"  like flies.  This is what Duterte is doing now in Jolo and Basilan.

It is not without reason that both the Southern Thai Malays as well as the Moros have not taken their bombings to Bangkok or Manila respectively.  In retaliation the Thais can clear Bangkok of all Thai  Malay taxi drivers (and there are many) in one day and exile them all back to Patani.

Back to the BRN, for the first time ever (in my recollection) the Barisan Revolusi Nasional  has issued a public statement.  This is a major development.

None of the Thai separatists are in the habit of issuing statements. Secrecy and anonymity have been their SOP for a long time.  (Other than our Universiti I___m Antarabangsa and our Special Branch) even the Thai public does not know who are the leaders of the :

BRN -  Barisan Revolusi Nasional  (Salafi)
RKK -  Runda Kumpulan Kecil   (Salafi)
GMIP - Gerakan Mujahidin Islam Patani  (Salafi / Al Qaeda)
BBMP - Barisan Bersatu Mujahidin Patani  (Salafi)
BNPP - National Front for the Liberation of Pattani
PULO - Pattani United Liberation Organisation  (Secular / Nationalist)

These folks are usually very  secretive.

Malaysia's involvement (MKN, Research etc) in both Mindanao and Thailand has not brought any resolution to these conflicts.

Face it ok - as negotiators or peacemakers Malaysia has failed miserably.  In the Philippines now, I think Duterte has completely kicked out Malaysia as a peace negotiator in Mindanao  - because for over 20 years or more we achieved nothing.

(There is a reason for that  and I believe it is "blindness" caused by the really stupid religious blinkers among the Majlis M _ _ p Negara.)

And their worse failure was that Sulu invasion of Lahad Datu in February 2013.  235 syabu inspired  Sulus  actually held our territory for 41 days ! !  That is less than one company of soldiers. Can you believe that?

Malaysia has also been overly involved in South Thailand - I think not in the best way. We have not contributed to a lasting peace.

Now, with names like Barisan Revolusi Nasional and Mara Pattani even more crows will come home to roost.

Here is some QUICK background to the Pattani insurgency :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Thailand_insurgency

earlier attacks drive-by shootings

policemen shot by gunmen on motorcycles

after 2001 coordinated attacks on police stations
slashing to death Buddhist monks
bombing Buddhist temples, beheadings
intimidating pork vendors and customers
arson attacks on schools
killing teachers, burning their bodies

Current insurgents proclaim  jihadism
  • not separatist any more
  • led by Salafis
  • extreme and transnational religious goals
  • Islamic Caliphate
  • Salafis hostile to culture
  • immediate aim to make Patani ungovernable
Unfortunately for Southern Thailand (and Mindanao) the Malaysian government had plenty of money in the 1980s and 1990s.  So money was splashed around to participate in the peace process. It was really a covert attempt at 'Islamic brotherhood'. And in the 1980s The Super Agent of the Ikhwan Muslimin (Muslim Brotherhood) was already a powerful and influential operator in Malaysia.

If Muslims were in trouble, we had to go and help them. Why?
Well because they were Muslims. What a stupid question.

It did not matter whether Patani, Mindanao, Bosnia, Rohingyas, Aceh or wherever. So long as they were Muslims - plus Malaysia had tons of money - we would go and help them.  Exactly what were the truths behind the conflict dynamics, the politics, the socio-economics, the cultures etc were not really important. They were Muslims, we were Muslims, both are good, so lets go help them.

So how could we be really honest peace brokers or peace negotiators?  We were motivated by common beliefs in four legged winged creatures flying through the sky.

And we can see what has happened after 20 years and 25 years.  Bosnia - Herzegovina is becoming a Salafi Mental Hospital in Europe.  Southern Thailand is getting worse. Mindanao too is never near any lasting solution.

It is true that Malaysia has been hosting thousands of southern Thai separatist leaders and their families inside Malaysia. We have been hosting tens of thousands of Southern Thai Malays for a very long time. They are all wonderful people, ordinary people just like you and me.  From a long time ago, we have had Southern Thais as our customers.  They work hard for their living and usually run food outlets.

But we never offered real solutions for the Southern Thai Malays. Or the Moros in Mindanao. I recall in the 90s and 2000s there was a race between UMNO and PAS to build madrassahs in Southern Thailand. Shahidan Kassim used to fund madrassahs across the border from Perlis. PAS used to fund madrassahs across the river in Golok.

Then hundreds or thousands of Southern Thai folks were admitted into our local universities and institutions especially MARA, UIA etc.

The full name of that so called "MARA Coalition" among the Salafi groups in Southern Thailand is "Majlis Amanah Rakyat Patani".  Doesnt that sound all too familiar.

And here are the flags of two factions (sudah pecah dua dah) of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional :

Dont these flags look very similar to our flag? That star has 15 points.  15 States ? Of what?  As I said, our folks have been throwing money and inspiring the Southern Thais with strange and unworkable ideas. That is why their problems never get solved.

So some of them have decided to try other options. Here is another 'more contemporary' idea for a newer flag for the Daulah Islamiyah Fathoni :

That is the ISIS flag folks. You all better wake up.

Other than me, no one (or very few people) seem to be keeping track of what is really going on among the people with-no-internal-plumbing in their homes.  Dont get caught napping.

I know what some of you are thinking. Migration is not an option. This is our home too.  It is super easy to overcome all these problems and improve the lives of all these people. We have to hang together and act together. Otherwise we will hang separately.

Plus we must know the correct things to do.  Let us be united by other than four legged winged creatures.
