Malaysia Home Ministry To Summon The Star Editor Over Front Page – Insensitive To The Feelings Of Muslims

The home ministry will summon the editor-in-chief of The Star daily over its controversial front page today which many have criticised as being not sensitive to Muslims in the country.

Ministry secretary-general Alwi Ibrhaim told Bernama that the daily had apparently not taken proper care when it posted a picture of people performing their tarawih prayers with a bold headline “Malaysian terrorist leader”.

“Tomorrow, we will summon their editor-in-chief to listen to their explanation regarding their front page.

“If we are not satisfied with their explanation, we will take further action, including issuing a show cause letter,” he told reporters after a programme attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Masjid Tok Jembal here today.

Alwi expressed regret over the occurrence as the ministry had called a meeting with editors on May 23 to give guidelines on publications.

Leaders from both sides of the political divide had criticised the newspaper’s front page which they said gave the impression that all Muslims were terrorists.

The Star in an apology posted on its website today said it is normal practice for the newspaper to print a picture of the first terawih prayers for the year, on the first day of Ramadan.

It said it was coincidental that the first day of Ramadan on Saturday was also the same day it ran the article on terrorism.

The front page was condemned by politicians from Umno, PKR, PAS and Parti Amanah Negara, who said it contributed to negative perceptions about Islam.

The Star openly apologised for its front page, saying on hindsight, it should have been more sensitive to the feelings of its Muslim readers.

“It has been the practice of The Star to respect the first day of Ramadan every year and to place the picture of Muslims at the first tarawih prayer on the front page of the paper.

“This has been done over the last decade or so.

“This year, there was an unfortunate coincidence of the lead story being of a terrorist leader, that led to many linking the headline and the picture, which was never the intention of the newspaper.

“We sincerely apologise for the error of judgment on our part,” it said in a statement today.

SINGAPORE: Four Alleged Drunken Customers Goes Berserk At A Porridge Restaurant Over A RM86 Bill!

Aiya…this is why people say drink but know your limit. See now, what a mess!

It was reported by The Star and Shin Min Daily News that a group of 4 customers who were upset over their bill at a porridge restaurant went berserk and started to smash things around.

The incident was said to have taken place at Heng Long Teochew Porridge located along Upper Serangoon Road. The troublemakers who caused the mess around 3 am, consisted of 3 men and 1 woman.

Police and the restaurant’s staffs strongly believed that the four of them were misbehaving due to alcohol intoxication.

According to the source, they had ordered porridge, Pomfret, and several side dishes. Upon receiving the bill which stated $28 (which is roughly around RM86), the group quickly turned green and started to show their dissatisfaction towards the staffs before rampaging the whole store upside down.

It was noted that the marbled-topped table that they sat at, was shattered into pieces after they had aggressively flipped it over. And they were also caught on camera smashing the serving area and destroying the glass surfaces using a wooden chair.

10 animals to see in Sabah before it’s too late

 BY JULIA CHAN,The Malay Mail

KOTA KINABALU, May 28 — Sabah is known for its rich biodiversity and wildlife, many of which dwell in the rainforests that still cover most of the state and are native to the island of Borneo.

About half of Sabah is still forested now. Most of it are forest reserves while others are gazetted parks and wildlife reserves and other protected areas.

But in today’s fast developing world, rapid and massive deforestation in the state have caused habitat destruction and pushed many species into danger and even to the brink of extinction.

Wildlife poaching to supply the illegal pet trade or to feed those with a taste for rare exotic meat has also sped up their extinction.

Here are some animals that our generation is still privileged enough to see.

1. Sumatran Rhinoceros

None is more critically endangered than the Sumatran rhinoceros. Already declared as extinct in Sabah’s wild, this solitary mammal has, for decades, been poached for its horn that is said to fetch as much as US$30,000 (RM128,034) per kilogramme for its purported medicinal properties.

Researchers estimate that fewer than 100 individuals are alive, mostly in Sumatra, Indonesia and possibly Kalimantan. There have been no wild sightings in Sabah for years.

Efforts in the last 20 years to revive the depleting population have failed, and all that’s left are two females and one male being held in captivity.

A male called Tam and two females named Iman and Puntung are under the care of non-governmental organisation Borneo Rhino Alliance at the Tabin Wildlife Reserve in Lahad Datu district. Scientists are still attempting to produce offspring through in vitro fertilisation but have yet to find success.

2. Borneo pygmy elephant

Said to be the “cutest”, the baby-faced elephants of Borneo are smaller than other Asian elephants and believed to be descendants of a domesticated herd given to the Sultan of Sulu in the 18th century. They are also more gentle in nature than other Asian elephants.

Borneo’s pygmy elephants are genetically distinct from other Asian elephants, smaller with relatively larger ears, more rotund, with longer tails and straighter tusks.

Although hunted by poachers for their tusks, these elephants face a bigger threat from habitat loss, which has led to more and more human-wildlife conflicts that cause both loss of life and monetary value to villagers and oil palm plantations.

Over the years, dozens of elephants have been found killed, poisoned, or trapped in man-made areas.

Now, they are said to number around 1,500, mostly in central and east part of Sabah.

3. Banteng

Known locally as tembadau, this species of wild cattle could easily be mistaken for your average domesticated cow; similar size and shape, horned, and ranging from a tan brown to black with their characteristic markings of a white rump and “stockings”.

Experts say no more than a few thousand are left in the wild in Sabah, but this is fast dwindling due to, again, poaching and habitat loss.

Relatively unknown to the public, they are on the international Union for Conservation of Nature’s endangered list, but little research has been dedicated to this animal.

They are forest dwelling, elusive animals that travel in herds, and many people will never see them in their lifetime unless they are involved in wildlife research or protection, nature related tourism, or live in forests.

The Sunda Pangolins used to be commonly found on forest fringes two decades ago, but sightings of them are more rare now. ―

4. Pangolin

The most trafficked mammal in the world can also be found in Sabah. The cute anteater, said to resemble “an artichoke with legs” due to its scales, is nocturnal and elusive, so much so experts cannot estimate how many are left in the wild.

The Sunda pangolin, the only species found in Borneo, is critically endangered. Unsurprising given that 22,220 specimens were recorded as smuggled by a syndicate in Sabah in just two years. Reports say that numbers have fallen by 80 per cent in the last decade.

Demand for the scaly mammal is greatest in China and Vietnam, where their meat is considered a delicacy and the scales are purported to have medicinal qualities.

Across the globe, the pangolin is considered endangered and protected and any international trade has been forbidden.

5. Orangutan

People travel from all over the world to see Borneo’s shaggy red-haired orangutans, either in the wild or at a rehabilitation or rescue centres and its no wonder.

Their human-like mannerisms, keen intellect and antics often leave visitors in wonder. Some have learnt how to communicate in sign language, and fashion tools to help them forage for food.

Critically endangered, the orangutan faces several threats: major habitat loss due to deforestation for open oil palm plantations, forest fires, the illegal pet trade, illegal hunting and trafficking.

But their cuteness and intelligence have made them an icon for wildlife conservation, and several dedicated organisations have emerged to look into their plight.

6. Proboscis monkey

Also called “dutch monkeys” in an unflattering reference to their big noses and protruding bellies, these easily recognisable primates are endemic to Borneo.

With a complex social structure of one alpha male and a harem of adult females per group, the proboscis are a fascinating species to watch, not least due to their comical appearance, but also their mannerisms.

Living close to the water, proboscis monkeys are keen swimmers and can leap from branches straight into the water.

Although suffering from population decline due to heavy loss of habitat over the years, the proboscis monkey is the most likely on this list to be spotted in the wild, due to their proximity to rivers and water sources. They are believed to be about 5,000 left in Sabah’s wild.

The sun bears' gall bladders are highly sought after in the black market and used to purportedly treat a variety of ailments.

7. Sun bear

Even smaller than the panda, sun bears are the smallest of all bears. Even when they are stand, they are rarely more than 4 feet tall.

They are adept at tree climbing and feed on insects, but have a fondness for honey and honeycombs, hence their other nickname: the honey bear.

Short, black, water-repellent hair, and a crescent-shaped light marking are their most significant physical feature. As cubs, they are ridiculously cute, making them a target for the exotic pet trade.

Their gall bladders are highly sought after in the black market and used to purportedly treat a variety of ailments.

8. Clouded leopard

The Sunda clouded leopard is the apex predator in Borneo, and the largest wild cat on the island.

Majestically marked like a leopard with stocky build, and superb hunting and tree climbing skills, they are the largest carnivores and the biggest natural threat to other wildlife in the forests.

Solitary and elusive, they are difficult to study, but researchers estimate that there might about 3,000 individuals on the island crammed into their fast-declining forest territories.

Their other threat is illegal hunting for their pelt.

9. Slow loris

Big eyes, slow deliberate movements and massive cute factor that was amplified in a viral video make the slow loris a highly sought exotic pet.

But being nocturnal, venomous and with eyes that hurt when in contact with bright lights, this primate was not made for domesticated life with humans. They search for food at night from trees.

These sensitive animals face extremely high mortality rates when trafficked, due to starvation, dehydration and infections from dental health injuries, as their venomous teeth are clipped.

Uncertain how many are left in the wild, they are still classified as vulnerable and endangered.

10. Binturong

The black furry bear cat native to Asia is not related to bears or cats, but closer in relation to civets.

Not a commonly known animal, it is about the same size as a small dog, but with a long shaggy coat and bushy tail.

The omnivorous forest dwelling binturong can be spotted in the wild, but also at local markets where they are traded for meat or as illegal pets.

It is classified as vulnerable though the lack of research has made it hard to estimate their numbers.

Most of these animals can be seen and appreciated at the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, a Sabah government initiative to keep rescued animals, study, and educate the public about Borneo’s endemic wildlife.

Chinese political dissidents are having their organs cut from their bodies for 'transplant tourists'

Tuesday, November 01, 2016 by: J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) In the U.S. these days, supporting GOP presidential nominee Donald J. Trump will earn you an assault from Left-wing cowards and bullies who support Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. But in China, being a political dissident and opposing the ruling Communist government could earn you a trip to a hospital operating room.

Where you'll have your organs removed for waiting "transplant tourists."

As reported by the Epoch Times, Chinese officials began persecuting the 100 million practitioners of Falun Gong in July 1999, and have continued to do so ever since. To the Chinese communists, there is no such thing as a religious deity or belief, because communists insist that their form of government should be the only thing requiring loyalty and faithfulness.

Not long ago this kind of treatment of Chinese "dissidents" would draw loud rebukes from the U.S. government, the United Nations and various human rights organizations around the world, as well as major media coverage. But since the Chinese manufacturing economy has become such an integral part of the economies of most of the world's advanced countries, outrage has been muted.

The lack of outrage and subsequent media coverage and pressure by governments has essentially given the Chinese communists a green light to treat Falun Gong – and anyone else deemed a political dissident – in any barbaric way they choose.

'A new form of evil'

Hence, the creation of a cottage industry of sorts – Transplant Tourism. As the Epoch Times noted, this is essentially "murder on demand" for an organ that is purchased ahead of time by someone who then travels to China for a transplant operation. It is a huge source of revenue both for the Chinese military and for private hospitals around the country, according to Nobel Prize nominees and investigators David Matas, an international human rights attorney, and David Kilgour, a former Canadian foreign secretary for Asia-Pacific.

Matas and Kilgour published their first investigative report in 2006, and evidence about forced harvesting of organs in China from prisoners of conscience has only mounted in the years since. The investigators found that the overwhelming majority of the pool of victims did not come from prisoners sentenced to death but rather from prisoners of conscience, primarily followers of Falun Gong – the largest group in China's prisons.

In their 2006 report, Matas described the systematic harvesting of organs from Falun Gong adherents by the Chinese Communist Party as "a new form of evil we have yet to see on this planet."

One of the founding board members of Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH), Dr. Dana Churchill, spoke at rallies in Los Angeles and Santa Monica Beach earlier this month. She said that to this point the world had never witnessed a "more horrific and barbaric crime as the Chinese Communist Party has committed against Falun Gong."

'Crime against humanity'

She added that it wasn't just Falun Gong adherents who were being victimized, however. Others include Christians, the Uyghurs and Tibetans, all of whom have also had their organs harvested "while they are alive, unwilling, and between 20 and 40 years old, the prime of their life," Churchill – a naturopathic doctor from Pasadena, Calif., said.

Epoch Times noted that recently released findings on the number of Chinese prisoners who have been murdered go way beyond original estimates collected from various investigators and organizations.

Churchill said: "With Falun Gong, approximately 65,000 have been murdered, and that is according to DAFOH, our organization."

At a Washington, D.C., rally on July 17, 2015, following nine years of investigation, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong announced that it had "concluded that since July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), lead by its former head Jiang Zemin, has utilized China's entire state apparatus to harvest organs from living Falun Gong practitioners," as a way to "physically destroy" the group as a whole.

"This is genocide and a crime against humanity," the organization concluded.

Could you be suffering from a dehydration headache?

Could you be suffering from a dehydration headache?

(Natural News) Common as they are, headaches can be caused by a great number of things. What many people don’t realize is that dehydration is one of them. According to MedicalNewsToday.com, not having enough fluid in the body causes what is called a dehydration headache, which occurs when the brain pulls away from the skull as it shrinks temporarily due to the lack of fluid.

Recognizing a dehydration headache from other types of headaches is important, so you can treat it appropriately and avoid over-medication. It is important to keep in mind that a dehydration headache is different from a sinus headache or a tension headache in that the pain is contained in the area of your head, whether front, back, side, or all over. With dehydration headaches, you don’t feel facial pressure or pain the back of your neck. The pain can sometimes feel dull or intense, like a migraine.

Other dehydration symptoms also occur, including extreme thirst, reduced and dark-colored urine, confusion, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, loss of skin elasticity, low blood pressure, and increased heart rate. If these symptoms occur along with pain in your head, you are probably experiencing a dehydration headache.

Obviously, the cause of this type of headache is dehydration, which is, simply put, when your body lacks the amount of fluids it needs. This can be caused by any number of conditions that involve the expulsion of fluids from the body: diarrhea, vomiting, extreme sweating, fever, and excess urination, to name a few.

While anyone can be dehydrated, some people are more at risk. People who live in high altitudes and hot climates are more susceptible to dehydration, as well as the elderly, infants and young children, and endurance athletes. People who have diabetes or kidney disease also carry a higher dehydration risk, as well as those on diuretic medication.

So how do you treat a dehydration headache?

Once you’ve determined that you have a dehydration headache, increase your fluid intake right away! When rehydrating, make sure to reduce sweating by staying in cooler temperatures and decreasing physical activity. These simple things should be enough to relieve your dehydration headache, though it make take some time before the pain abates completely. To accelerate the relief, you may want to try some natural headache remedies. These include the following, as mentioned on EverydayHealth.com:

Lavender, peppermint, or basil oil – These can be inhaled or applied topically.
Scalp massage – Massaging the temples and base of your skull can provide some pain relief, though you may also want to try massaging reflex points in your hands and feet to see if it has an effect.
Feverfew – Take the leaves of this plant by mouth or take it as an oral supplement.
Flaxseed – Whether as an oil, ground up, or as whole seeds, the omega-3s in this can help alleviate your headache.
Ultimately, preventing a dehydration headache is simpler than treating it. To avoid dehydration, make sure to drink between six to eight cups of water a day and incorporate foods like cucumbers and fruits into your diet, as these have a high water content. Spread your fluid intake throughout the day instead of drinking it all at once, and consider hydrating more when you anticipate more sweating — when temperatures are high, for instance, or when you’re exercising. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol can also help prevent dehydration, as these drinks are diuretics and can cause your body to lose more fluid.

Brave new world: 3D-printed ovaries produce healthy offspring

Brave new world: 3D-printed ovaries produce healthy offspring

(Natural News) A team of all-female scientists have managed to successfully implant a set of functional 3D-printed ovaries in a female mouse, which managed to ovulate, gestate,  give birth to, and even nurse healthy pups. The study, which will be published in Nature Communications, paves the way for game-changing breakthroughs in human fertility and reproductive health.

The scientists, according to a report on MedicalXpress.com, removed the ovaries from a female mouse and replaced it with a bioprosthetic set made out of 3D-printed scaffolds and containing live immature eggs. The ovaries were able to restore fertility in mice and help boost their hormone production. The material used for the artificial ovaries was a gelatin made from broken-down collagen. The material in particular is crucial because the scientists required a scaffold that was strong enough to be moved around during surgery, but soft and porous enough to be able to integrate with the body tissues of the mouse.

While the study was focused on rats, the scientists hope that the study will break ground for humans, particularly for women with compromised fertility and hormone production after being subjected to cancer treatments in adulthood and childhood.

“What happens with some of our cancer patients is that their ovaries don’t function at a high enough level and they need to use hormone replacement therapies in order to trigger puberty,” Monica Laronda, co-lead author of the study, said in the report. “The purpose of this scaffold is to recapitulate how an ovary would function. We’re thinking big picture, meaning every stage of the girl’s life, so puberty, through adulthood, to natural menopause.”

3D-printed bodies?

If only for the role they play in creating human life, the idea of functional, 3D-printed ovaries opens up a Pandora’s box of ethical concerns. In fact, the whole idea of 3D-printed organs is rather questionable. Still, that has not stopped scientists from conducting research and making strides in the field of artificial body parts.

When it comes to 3D-printing organs, finding the best “ink” or material may be the most important and challenging part of the process. According to FastCompany.com, scientists from the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine are examining the use of gels filled with cells and a biodegradable material that shapes the particular tissue. The artificial organs are kept alive by small channels in their structure that absorb nutrients and oxygen. The researchers arrived at a breakthrough in 2016 when they successfully printed and implanted a 3D-printed human ear, jawbone, and muscle tissue. For the first time, the artificial organs stayed alive after implantation.

“We have been able to print human scale constructs that, when implanted in experimental models, developed a system of nerves and blood vessels and were functional,” said Wake Forest Institute director Anthony Atala. “The research indicates that tissue structures printed with the system have the right size, strength, and function for use in humans.

While the team had already previously implanted artificial organs including skin, urethras, cartilage, and bladders in patients with great success, they are only just wading into the field of bioprinted organs. That said, even with all their cutting edge discoveries, it could take a while before humans are walking around with body parts that were created by a printing machine.

Child born in China with 15 fingers and 16 toes... This is the place where a lot of your 'organic' food gets smothered in chemicals, then imported into the USA

(NaturalNews) A 2-month-old boy in China suffers from a rare condition called "extreme polydactylism" which caused him to be born with 15 fingers and 16 toes, raising the question: Could this bizarre birth defect have been caused by environmental toxins?

The child, whose name is Hong Hong, lives with his family in Pingjiang County in China's Hunan Province. Hong's mother, who works in a factory located in Shenzhen City also has polydactylism, but a less severe form thereof; she was born with an extra finger on each hand and an extra toe on each foot.

Fearing that her son might also be born with the condition – children of parents with polydactylism have a 50 percent chance of inheriting the defect – Hong's mother had three scans performed before her son was born, but none indicated that he had inherited the condition.

The child's parents are desperately trying to raise the money needed for an operation to correct the defect, according to news sources.

Could environmental toxins be the culprit?

Although there is no reported evidence that Hong's condition was caused by environmental toxins, one can't help but wonder if this might be the case. Polydactylism is a mutation which can be caused by environmental factors, and can affect subsequent generations. China is one of the most polluted countries on the planet, with more than one-fifth of its arable land being contaminated by heavy metals and other toxic substances.

From the website of the University of Missouri Children's Hospital:

"When the hands and feet are developing in the womb, they start out as flat 'paddles' that then normally separate into five digits. Polydactyly occurs when this separation process is excessive, and an extra 'segment' is created. This may be caused by a genetic abnormality or by environmental influences."

There have been increasing concerns over the safety of food exported from China – even among foods labeled as "organic."

From Natural Mentor:

"The Chinese regime is a labyrinth of complexly interconnected power struggles. Suffice it to say that corruption is the norm, and thus the food manufacturing sector is rarely held to any identifiable standards.

"Even when standards are set, the government rarely enforces them. The process by which consumers can file complaints is a bureaucratic nightmare that leads nowhere, so manufacturers spread outright lies and get away with it (some even call their food 'organic' without meeting any of the necessary criteria).

"This failure to follow acceptable safety standards is especially egregious in China, where environmental pollution has reached disastrous levels. Even China's own Ministry of Environmental Protection admits that at least one fifth of its farmland is highly polluted with heavy metals and other contaminants. So even when Chinese farmers do follow organic guidelines—which state that no pesticides or other contaminants can be added to crops—their produce still ends up laced with the myriad pollutants from China's soil."

Heavy metals found in 'certified organic' products from China

Not long ago, Mike Adams, founder/editor of Natural News and author of the new book, Food Forensics, ran some laboratory tests on rice protein products being marketed in the United States. Adams found high levels of lead, tungsten and cadmium – all industrial heavy metals – in samples of rice protein products originating in China.

Adams wrote:

"I have personally conducted the scientific research to document cadmium levels at over 2.5 ppm in certified organic rice protein products sold in the USA (and imported from China) as 'certified organic.' These levels have been independently confirmed by rice protein manufacturers. None of the lab results published at Natural News have ever been disputed. In fact, they have been confirmed by numerous third-party laboratories."

Buy LOCAL organic

Buying "certified organic" foods imported from China is a bad idea. Although these products may be cheaper than organic foods produced in the United States, there is absolutely no guarantee that these foods are truly organically-grown or safe.

Buy your organic food from local sources whenever possible, and avoid buying any foods produced in China – "certified organic," or otherwise. It's worth the extra money to be sure that your food is coming from a reputable source, and it helps the local economy.

GMO apples to arrive at “test stores” this month, grocer names remain secretive

GMO apples to arrive at “test stores” this month, grocer names remain secretive

(Natural News) February 2017 marks the introduction of genetically modified apples into US stores, sadly. The altered Golden Delicious apple will be the first to be test marketed, at ten Midwest locations. Okanagan Specialty Fruits is producing the latest Frankenfood, but more apple varieties are soon to follow. The FDA has approved Okanagan’s GMO Granny and Fuji varieties, and approval for the Gala is expected in 2018. Exactly which stores will get the new apple is not being disclosed to the public, for reasons that aren’t clear. If Okanagan has nothing to hide, why not just disclose the information in an announcement? The apples will carry the name ‘Arctic’ but if you aren’t aware of this then you could be ingesting yet another unlabeled GMO.

Anyone who has ever eaten an apple knows that they will start to brown within moments of the flesh being exposed to air. The browning is due to the presence of the enzyme polyphenol oxidase, which causes apples to oxidize. But the Arctic apples have been genetically tinkered with, and the enzyme has been limited by a gene silencing technique. And that is the hook for consumers who demand perfection in the appearance of the produce they eat – when sliced this new creation will not brown for three weeks. This Frankenfruit will come pre-sliced and wrapped in plastic, just the way nature intended (not). (RELATED: See more news about GMOs at GMO.news )

The GMO industry’s shameful legacy of ill effects

ResponsibleTechnology.org lists important reasons to avoid GMOs:

1 Studies on animals given GMO feed show “organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility.”

2 GMOs cross pollinate and the contamination is permanent, threatening future generations.

3 Genetically modified crops are altered to tolerate herbicides, so GM foods contain more dangerous chemicals such as Roundup, which has been linked to birth defects, infertility, and cancer.

4 Genetic engineering can cause unintended consequences, such as “new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies.”

5 Perhaps most telling is that when given a choice, animals avoid eating GMO foods. These include rats, squirrels, chicken, buffalo, deer, raccoons, mice, cows, pigs, geese, and elk.

PhD plant biologist Jonathan Latham writes,“I wasn’t, at the outset, concerned about the possible effects of GM plants on human health or the environment…we hardly imagined that GMOs like ours would be grown or eaten. So far as I was concerned, all GMOs were for research purposes only. The commercial purpose of GMOs is not to feed the world or improve farming. Rather, they exist to gain intellectual property (i.e. patent rights) over seeds and plant breeding and to drive agriculture in directions that benefit agribusiness. This drive is occurring at the expense of farmers, consumers, and the natural world.”

Many countries around the world have banned GMO’s. Yet sadly, the US leads the world in production of these insidious poisons. The problem is that when you alter a plant’s DNA to produce a desirable trait, no one knows how this affects health; the science of genetic tampering is still too uninformed to predict, and unintended consequences will result because it’s beyond the grasp of science to know. If enough Americans become informed on the roulette game being played out with our health and our very lives, the power of the marketplace will prevail and we can eradicate the menace of GMO’s. The very idea that foods can be marketed without labeling GMO ingredients is a red flag – why the secrecy if the food is safe? If enough consumers refuse to purchase GMO foods, and they are no longer profitable, this despicable technology will cease. (RELATED: Read Ingredients.news to stay informed on genetically modified food ingredients.)

Don’t join the GMO cult of genetic pollution and questionable health effects.

Australia's 'ganja queen' returns home more than 12 years after being jailed in Bali for smuggling marijuana

Australian drug convict Schapelle Corby is escorted by police after reporting to a parole office

28 MAY 2017

Australian drug smuggler Schapelle Corby, whose trial and imprisonment on Indonesia's tourist island of Bali mesmerized her country for more than a decade, returned home Sunday.

Corby landed in the Queensland capital of Brisbane early Sunday morning, after she was deported from Bali amid a frenzy of journalists. More than 200 police officers were deployed to secure her departure from Denpasar, Bali's capital, said Ida Bagus Adnyana, who heads Bali's Justice and Human Rights office.

"Corby signed a document to end her parole. She is completely free now," he said.

Back on Australian soil, she managed to evade the waiting media throng and slip out of the airport unseen. A member of Corby's security team, Eleanor Whitman, read a statement to journalists on behalf of the family.

"To all those in Australia and all those in Bali who have been there throughout this difficult journey, your support has not gone unnoticed," the statement said. "The priority of our focus will now be on healing and moving forward."

Corby was arrested in 2004 at the age of 27 after customs officers at Bali's airport found more than 4 kilograms (9 pounds) of marijuana inside her boogie board bag, sparking a media frenzy in Australia on par with America's O.J. Simpson trial.

Mercedes Corby, sister of convicted Australian drug smuggler Schapelle Corby, is escorted by a personal security guard as she arrives at her mother's house

Corby always insisted the drugs had been planted in her bag, and most Australians initially believed her story. Her courtroom battle was tailor-made for TV: a photogenic Australian beach girl who had apparently fallen victim to corrupt officials in an Asian country that had come to be viewed with fear and suspicion after dozens of Australians were killed in the 2002 Bali bombings.

Indonesians, who called Corby "Ganja Queen," were mystified by Australia's response. To them, the case was clear-cut, and the Australian outrage overly nationalistic.

Corby's insistence that the drugs were planted by baggage handlers was dismissed as lies by Balinese prosecutors. A court sentenced her to 20 years in prison, though that was later reduced.

In 2014, after nine years behind bars, she was released but had to stay in Bali until her parole expired on Saturday. In the lead-up to her deportation, she kept a low profile, living in a villa in Bali with her Indonesian boyfriend.

Australian media spent two weeks camped outside the villa, attempting to catch a glimpse of the elusive drug smuggler.

Hoping to fool reporters, friends and family members took to donning bizarre face masks as they went to and from the property.

Though proving Corby's innocence was once something of a national cause in Australia, unflattering reports about her family emerged over the years, sullying her image in many Australians' eyes. Today, few Australians still believe Corby's story but remain fascinated by the saga.

Under Australian law, she will not be able to directly profit from telling her story.

So much for diplomacy! Smirking Israeli ambassador to the US puts his head in his hand after Trump implies Israel is not in the Middle East

Trump made the gaffe during a diplomacy tour meeting in Israel on Monday

He said he'd just come 'back from the Middle East... Saudi Arabia'
Israel is just 90 miles away from Saudi Arabia at the countries' closest points
Ambassador Ron Dermer was caught on film putting his head in his hand
He then turned that into a sweep of his hair as he composed himself

By James Wilkinson For Dailymail.com

The Israeli ambassador to the US was left clutching his head in what appeared to be both amusement and despair during Donald Trump's appearance in Israel on Monday.

Trump was in a bilateral meeting with President Reuven Rivlin of Israel during his ongoing diplomacy tour when he implied that the country was not, in fact in the Middle East.

That left Ambassador Ron Dermer, who was spectating from the sidelines, throwing his hand up to his face - and the whole thing was caught on film.

Trump's comments leave Israeli ambassador scratching his head

Trump's meeting had been going well up to that point, with the assembled dignitaries chuckling along to his jokes.

But while enthusing about the 'incredible job' performed by new Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Trump mentioned that he had just flown from a meeting with the heads of Saudi Arabia.

'We just got back from the Middle East,' Trump told the room. 'We just got back from Saudi Arabia.'

Israel and Saudi Arabia are the US's strongest allies in the Middle East.

They are separated only by the country of Jordan, and the nearest points on their borders are just 90 miles apart.

Dermer's reaction to the gaffe was immediate; he threw his hand up to his face with a smirk.

At that point, some of his ambassadorial poise appears to kick in and he turns the facepalm into a sweep of the hair.

He scratches his eyebrow as he composes himself, and then returns his attention to Trump's speech.

No smirking room: Ron Dermer, Israeli ambassador to the US, then swept his hand through his hair (left) and scratched his eyebrow (right) as he composed himself

The visit was the second day of Trump's diplomatic tour of the Middle East, and began with him visiting the West Wall of Jerusalem, where he and his family offered up prayers.

On Monday evening he spoke of his hope for peace in the Middle East, and America's role in those meetings.

'We're going to have very productive discussions, in my opinion, with the leaders of other nations,' Trump said, referring to Muslim countries.

'And I feel strongly about that, because there's a lot of love out there.

'People from all nations - even nations you would be surprised to hear - they want to stop the killing. They've had enough.'

RHB BANK CUSTOMER WINS BMW 7 SERIES

KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Huat Soon, a businessman from Johor Baru, is now being chauffeured around in his new ride, a brand-new BMW 730Li worth RM600,000 he won as the RHB Bank “Drive Home A BMW Series” campaign’s grand prize.

The 62-year-old was among the bank’s 13 lucky customers who walked (and in Tan’s case, drove) away with attractive prizes out of the four-month-long campaign. Tan, who already has a driver to drive him around “for certain occasions”, intends to keep the German limousine.

The deposit campaign which was held from June 15 to Oct 14, 2016 was open to RHB Bank’s Conventional Current Account Savings Account (CASA) new and existing customers. Customers who deposited a minimum of RM50,000 into their RHB Bank CASA had the opportunity to win Philips home appliances, with the BMW limousine as the grand prize. With every multiple of RM100,000, customers were eligible for contest entries and stood to win the grand prize or monthly prizes.

Speaking to theSun after the prize-giving ceremony this morning, RHB Banking Group’s retail banking acting head, Nazri Othman, said: “This campaign is aimed at encouraging customers to save more and to be rewarded for their wise financial management. It takes a lot to self-discipline to maintain your savings, and through this campaign we were able to inculcate the habit of savings among our customers.”

The group will be launching its second wave of deposit campaign in the third quarter of this year and customers can expect to win attractive prizes including a car and gold-plated figurines, among others.

Duterte tells troops that they can RAPE women in 'joke' as he rallies soldiers battling foreign fighters in ISIS 'invasion' of besieged Philippines city

Please spare the women but can rape the rebels as much as you like

President Rodrigo Duterte made the 'joke' on Friday as he visited a military hospital near Marawi, the city in the Philippines which has come under attack by the ISIS-affiliated Maute group. Solicitor General Jose Calida said earlier in the day that foreign fighters had come to his country after failing to join ISIS in Iraq and Syria. So far the battle for Marawi has claimed the lives of 11 government troops and 30 ISIS fighters, according to official figures. ISIS propagandists claim to have slaughtered 70 government soldiers.

The mainstream media, especially the Western mainstream media has always painted China with the most negative of brushes. Like China will collapse, their economy is unsustainable etc.

Have you all heard of a “strategic consulting” firm called Stratfor? I know people who paid money to them to get “boutique” analysis about countries. Economic, political, military analysis and so on.

A couple of years ago Stratfor made a huge prediction about the imminent collapse of China. Of course no such thing has happened. This has become a major embarrassment for Stratfor.

I think Stratfor has now sort of “closed shop”. Their boss has left to start yet another “strategic consultancy”. At least that is what he implied in an email I received the other day.

The box comments Folks, we can now notice the increasing presence of mainland Chinese in Malaysia. Yesterday a tour bus pulled up at a 4 star hotel near my office. A whole group of mainland Chinese guys were boarding the bus. They look young, healthy and obviously have money to spend.

China is becoming so damned super competitive at a time when Malaysia is becoming so damned super stupid.

Not just Malaysia, but the entire Islamic world is becoming super stupid.

We will NOT be able to beat the Chinese in cost and quantity.

But we can certainly beat them in quality.

To do that we have to wake up.

Not all Malaysians are sleeping. Many are fully awake.

Horrified farmers discovered the corpse in the middle of the afternoon before alerting police.

Officers said they believed the killer had a 'personal grudge' with Warisara.

Lt. Gen. Suan Khamai from the Khao Suan Kwang district police, said: 'Villagers were walking and approached the area where the body was found.

'We believe this was a personal vendetta. When the opportunity arose they killed her and sliced the body into two pieces.

'We expect it to be a person issue related to sex and relationships.'

Officers have now taken the body for DNA testing as they hunt the killer.

Jilted Indian woman 'murdered her ex-boyfriend by pouring acid down his throat after he married another lady'

Man died after his lover poured acid down his throat for marrying someone else

Sheikh Mohammad Illyas, 24, met with his ex-girlfriend Hima Bindu one last time
Bindu allegedly pulled a bottle of acid from her bag and poured it into his mouth
The alleged acid attack left Sheikh with fatal acid injuries to his throat and chest

By Simon Holmes For Mailonline and Cen Agency

A jilted lover allegedly murdered her ex-boyfriend by pouring acid down his throat after he married another woman.

Jealous ex-girlfriend Hima Bindu is accused of killing her former partner after his wedding.

She asked to meet Sheikh Mohammad Illyas, 24, one last time in Venigandla village in Guntur district of the state of Andhra Pradesh, south-eastern India.

Sheikh Mohammad Illyas with his wife on their wedding day

Sheikh Mohammad Illyas was just 24-years-old when he died from injuries caused by acid. His former lover Bindu allegedly pulled a bottle of acid from her bag and poured it into his mouth

The pair started arguing and Bindu allegedly pulled a bottle of acid from her bag and poured it into his mouth on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries and police are now hunting Bindu who has gone on the run.

A police spokesman said: 'On Sunday, Illyas got married to another woman. Angered by this, Hima Bindu resorted to pouring acid down his throat.'
'Tired of her, catch me and hang me': The chilling note...

Jealous Bindu had asked that her ex-boyfriend meet her at a mutual friend's house.

Sheikh was accompanied to the property on Sunday evening by one of his relatives.

Sheikh obtained acid injuries to his throat and chest, Bindu also suffered burns on her arms and legs

His brother Halla Bakshu said: 'Hima Bindu wanted to make sure that he deleted all the photos and conversations they had had from his phone.

'She had said that she would walk away and not contact him again if he met her one last time. '

The alleged acid attack left Sheikh with acid injuries to his throat and chest, Bindu also suffered burns on her arms and legs.

The bed and part of the wall in the room where also destroyed by the corrosive liquid.

Sheikh was rushed to Guntur Government Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Bindu fled the scene but later asked her father to take her to hospital so she could have her injuries seen to.

Doctors told them they should file a police report at which point they ran away and have not been seen since.

Police are now hunting Bindu who is wanted for murder following Sheikh's death.

Acid attacks are relatively common in India, with around 60 percent of the victims being women.

BOMBSHELL – NAJIB TO TABLE NEW BOUNDARIES IN JULY, DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT IN AUGUST, HOLD GE14 SEPT ONWARDS?

Why worry and he can change the boundaries as much as he like but cannot change the fact that 90% of the population and 70% of the Malays do not like him or BN-UMNO and PAS.  Whichever way he still going to lose at the ballot box

Earlier this month, in historic legal victories, BERSIH 2.0 Outreach Officer Chan Tsu Chong along with six others were granted leave and a stay order to challenge the Election Commission’s (EC) delineation proposals in Melaka.

This means the process of re-drawing the election boundaries for Melaka has been suspended until the court case is completed.

This builds upon the work already done in Selangor to challenge the new proposals.

The importance of these legal challenges for the fate of the Fourteenth General Election (GE14) can’t be overstated.

The EC’s motivations for the new boundaries are obvious. The new boundaries are there to shift the balance of seats to secure a strong Barisan Nasional (BN) victory in the next election.

The political motivations behind the EC’s boundaries

According to research by Politweet, BN can win an additional 11 seats in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly with the new boundaries proposed in September 2016. These 11 seats would be won with no changes in votes from GE13 but only through the shifting of voters to strategic seats for BN.

Similarly, in the September 2016 proposals for Melaka, the seat of Bukit Baru, won by Pakatan Rakyat by 48 votes in GE13, would be won by BN with a 1,600-vote majority with the new boundaries. The marginal seat of Telok Mas, won by BN by just 700 votes in GE13, would become a safe seat with a 3,000-vote majority.

Worse still, based on the September 2016 proposal, the Bukit Katil federal seat, won by Pakatan Rakyat in GE13 by nearly 7,000 votes, would now be won by BN with a 4,800 vote majority. This move is especially suspicious, given that in August 2016, one month before the proposal became public, the Melaka Chief Minister called for the EC to change Bukit Katil boundaries to make it easier for BN to win.

The same pattern emerges throughout the country. In Perak, the safe Pakatan Rakyat seats in GE13 of Changkat Jering and Sungai Rapat would be won by BN, with no change in votes. In Kuala Lumpur, Nurul Izzah Anwar would lose the seat of Lembah Pantai.

The legal challenges

For the first time in our history, the EC is being dragged to court over and over again to stop their flagrant cheating through delineation. The rakyat have shown their outrage, with more than 1,000 objections submitted to the EC between September 2016 and April 2017 over their proposals.

The EC has been inundated with legal cases on delineation. So far, 11 cases have been filed in courts across the country, challenging the lack of information provided (yes, the EC doesn’t even want to tell voters how they are affected!), the unconstitutional proposals and the EC’s refusal to hold local inquiries when legally required to do so.

So far, there have been some brave High Court judges willing to take a stand.

Judges Azizul Azmi Adnan and Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera for the Selangor and Melaka cases, respectively, have both granted leave to hear the arguments of the case and have put a stay on further action by the EC to re-draw the boundaries in those two states.

The Selangor State Government’s challenge is now being heard in court and we have already heard some startling revelations from the EC, including that the information related to 136,000 addresses on the electoral roll has been destroyed.

I think it is fair to say we can expect more such ludicrous explanations from the EC as the cases progress.

What does this mean for GE14?

Even though the Federal Constitution allows the EC up to two years to complete the delineation exercise, the EC now seems to be desperate to finish the process as soon as possible. We can only wonder why this would be the case.

If the EC cared to follow the Constitution, once the court granted a stay for Selangor, this should have halted the process for the whole of the peninsula. This is because the Constitution says peninsular Malaysia must be treated as a whole unit when drawing constituencies.

However, the EC has decided to continue the delineation process “excluding the state of Selangor”. It is clear the EC is trying to bulldoze their proposal through no matter what the courts say. It shows complete contempt for the rule of law and our Federal Constitution.

On a positive note, it looks like the boundaries to the federal and state seats in Selangor may have been saved from the changes that would have led to a rigged election in a state BN is desperate to win back.

For the rest of the country, we can only speculate what the EC’s plans are.

It is now possible the EC will take the unconstitutional step of presenting their final proposals to the Prime Minister without completing the process for Selangor and Melaka. The Prime Minister can then table the new boundaries in Parliament by the end of July and announce the dissolution of Parliament by August. The election can then be held as early as September.

The EC Up to the Same Old Tricks

We are fully aware of how the process would have been conducted if the EC were not merely a puppet for the ruling party.

The Constitution is clear. Seats in the same state must have “approximately equal” number of voters and the EC must try to follow local ties in drawing the boundaries.

If the EC were fair, we would not have a seat in Selangor with more than 150,000 voters (Petaling Jaya Utara) and another with just 37,000 voters (Sabak Bernam). We would not have boundaries that cut households or communities in half to suit certain voting patterns. Local councils would not be criss-crossed with constituency boundaries, resulting in councillors having to communicate with multiple MPs on local issues.

In the past year, public confidence in the EC has been further eroded. They have refused to supply draft electoral rolls to the public. They have allowed people to register in constituencies they have never lived in. They have restricted voter registration exercises by limiting the number of forms available. Their actions in relation to delineation should be the final nail in the coffin.

While BERSIH 2.0 will continue to fight for reforms and an independent EC before GE14, what matters most now is the people’s power to overcome this cheating and manipulation. The rakyat must once again come out and make their vote count. Only with overwhelming voter turnout on Election Day do we have a chance to override the EC’s underhanded tactics.

Zoë Randhawa is Advocacy Officer for BERSIH 2.0.

The father of suicide bomber Salman Abedi looked after a notorious ISIS recruiter when he was shot in Libya, it has been claimed.

Abedi, who slaughtered 22in Manchester on Monday, was said to be friends with Abdalraouf Abdallah, a Libyan refugee who returned to his homeland in 2011 to fight the regime of Colonel Gaddafi.

Abdallah, later jailed in Britain for terror offences, was shot in 2012 and was cared for in Tripoli by Abedi's father, Ramadan, it has been claimed. The injuries left him paralysed.

The links between Abedi and Abdallah were revealed to the Financial Times by associates of the two families.

Police in Tripoli said he was a member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG)  in the 1990s who found refuge in Britain before returning to fight against Gaddafi in 2011. He denies he was part of the al-Qaeda-backed group.

Abdallah, 23, was jailed for five and a half years in July 2016, having been convicted of trying to help other Manchester-based extremists to join ISIS.

He lived in Moss Side in south Manchester, a short drive from the Abedi family home.

Abdallah, left paralysed from his injuries, was sentenced for trying to help former RAF gunner Stephen Gray join jihadis in Syria.

During the trial, jurors heard he played a key role in setting up the journey to Syria for Gray, Abdallah's own brother Mohammed and two more men.

The court heard he also sent £2,000 to his brother for terrorist purposes and tried to arrange firearms for the three men.

Prosecutors said Abdallah, who denied links with ISIS, he was 'at the centre of a jihadist network facilitating foreign fighters'.

Meanwhile, authorities are chasing possible links between Abedi and militants in Manchester, elsewhere in Europe, and in North Africa and the Middle East.

They were exploring potential ties to Raphael Hostey, an ISIS recruiter killed in a drone strike last year who boasted of luring hundreds of Britons to Syria.

Abedi's family remained a focus, too, with his brother, Ismail arrested in England and another brother, Hashem, held in Libya.

Did Russian tsar fake his own death to live as a MONK? DNA tests 'to check if Alexander I lived in disguise for 39 years after he was declared dead'

Tsar Alexander I died at the age of just 47 from typhus on December 1825
But experts believe he lived on as highly educated monk Feodor Kuzmich
The humble monk lived for in the Siberian city of Tomsk and died in 1864
Handwriting analysis concluded that they were 'one and the same man'

By Will Stewart In Moscow for MailOnline

Modern science is being called in to solve an intriguing royal mystery over whether one of Russia's most famous tsars faked his own death to live as a humble Siberian monk.

Alexander I of Russia
Emperor of Russia
Alexander I reigned as Emperor of Russia from 23 March 1801 to 1 December 1825. He was the son of Paul I and Sophie Dorothea of Württemberg. Wikipedia
Born: December 23, 1777, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Died: December 1, 1825, Taganrog, Russia
Spouse: Elizabeth Alexeievna (m. 1793–1825)
Reign: 23 March 1801 – 1 December 1825
Siblings: Nicholas I of Russia, More
Children: Grand Duchess Elizabeth Alexandrovna of Russia, Nikolai Lukash

Rumours have persisted that Alexander I - who defeated Napoleon in 1812 during a 23 year reign - remained alive after he was declared dead at the age of just 47 from typhus on 1 December 1825.

Now a leading Orthodox churchman has signaled that genetic analysis will be carried out on the remains of a humble but high-educated monk - known as Feodor Kuzmich - who was believed by some contemporaries to be the former emperor in disguise.

Now a leading Orthodox churchman has signaled that genetic analysis will be carried out on the remains of Monk Feodor (pictured), who was believed by some contemporaries to be the former emperor in disguise

'It is quite likely that such an analysis will be held soon,' said Bishop Rostislav, of Tomsk.

He indicated the tests would be conducted by the Russian Academy of Sciences with the involvement of officials of the Orthodox Patriarch, Kirill.

The DNA analysis is expected to reveal whether the tsar lived for 39 years after his official death while his brother Nicholas I took the vacant throne.

Holy man Feodor, declared a saint by the Orthodox church, lived for almost three decades in the Siberian city of Tomsk before his death in 1864.

'He told people that he had been a wanderer and was unable to recall his past,' reported The Siberian Times.

'Alexander I's empress Elizabeth - they wed when she was 14, and he a year older - officially passed away a few months after him.

'There is a separate theory that her death was also faked, and that she subsequently became a nun known as Silent Vera.'

Detailed handwriting analysis carried out two years ago by the Russian Graphological Society concluded the tsar and the monk were 'one and the same man'

The monk's handwriting (pictured) looks remarkably similar to the royal's

The most prominent proponent of the theory that the monk had royal blood was Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.

But detailed handwriting analysis carried out two years ago by the Russian Graphological Society concluded the tsar and the monk were 'one and the same man'.

Professor Andrey Rachinsky, of the Paris Institute of Eastern Languages and Civilisations, said that Tsar Alexander III had a picture of the monk in pride of place alongside those of his royal predecessors in his office.

And the monk's belongings were passed to a leading churchman close to royal family after he died.

The theory that the tsar craved a holy life as a monk is based on him seeking forgiveness for coming to power after the murder of his father, Paul I.

Historians say it is doubtful that he was directly involved in killing his father but he was in the palace at the time, and became the direct beneficiary.

The inscrutable monk was quoted by Tolstoy as having said: 'If I had not confessed the truth about myself, the heavens would have been surprised; if I had confessed it, the earth would have been surprised.'

There is a separate theory that her death was also faked, and that she subsequently became a nun known as Silent Vera (pictured)

Tolstoy said: 'Even when monk Feodor Kuzmich was alive - he came to Siberia in 1836 and lived for 27 years in various places - there were strange rumours about him that he was hiding his real name and position and that it was Emperor Alexander I.

'After the monk's death these rumours only spread and became stronger.

'Not only common people believed them but many from the elite, including the royal family of Tsar Alexander III.

'The reasons for these rumours were the following: Alexander died unexpectedly, he did not suffer from any disease before, he died far away from home in a remote place of Taganrog, and when he was put in the coffin many who saw him, said that he changed a lot, this is why the coffin was quickly sealed.

'It was known that Alexander said and wrote that he wanted so much to leave his post and to stay away from this world.

Saint Petersburg - where the tsar was buried - and Tomsk - where the monk lived - marked on the world map

'And one more fact which is less known is that in the official statement where Alexander's dead body was described there was a line that his back and bottom were of dark red colour and it was hardly possible to be a true description of the body of the emperor.'

The monk's and tsar's 'height and appearance' were similar with 'the same kind of round shoulders'.

The monk had claimed to have been 'a homeless man' who did not remember his family yet he spoke foreign languages and had 'a noble way gentle with others which clearly meant that he was the person with a high position in the society'.

At his death, he is said to have left a 'coded message' signed A.P. which matched the tsars name and patronymic, Alexander Pavlovich.

The tsar was buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St Petersburg, according to history books, but rumours have persisted that his tomb is empty.
