A jilted lover allegedly murdered her ex-boyfriend by pouring acid down his throat after he married another woman.

Jealous ex-girlfriend Hima Bindu is accused of killing her former partner after his wedding.

She asked to meet Sheikh Mohammad Illyas, 24, one last time in Venigandla village in Guntur district of the state of Andhra Pradesh, south-eastern India.

Sheikh Mohammad Illyas was just 24-years-old when he died from injuries caused by acid. His former lover Bindu allegedly pulled a bottle of acid from her bag and poured it into his mouth

The pair started arguing and Bindu allegedly pulled a bottle of acid from her bag and poured it into his mouth on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries and police are now hunting Bindu who has gone on the run.

A police spokesman said: 'On Sunday, Illyas got married to another woman. Angered by this, Hima Bindu resorted to pouring acid down his throat.'

Jealous Bindu had asked that her ex-boyfriend meet her at a mutual friend's house.

Sheikh was accompanied to the property on Sunday evening by one of his relatives.

Sheikh obtained acid injuries to his throat and chest, Bindu also suffered burns on her arms and legs

His brother Halla Bakshu said: 'Hima Bindu wanted to make sure that he deleted all the photos and conversations they had had from his phone.

'She had said that she would walk away and not contact him again if he met her one last time. '

The alleged acid attack left Sheikh with acid injuries to his throat and chest, Bindu also suffered burns on her arms and legs.

The bed and part of the wall in the room where also destroyed by the corrosive liquid.

Sheikh was rushed to Guntur Government Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Bindu fled the scene but later asked her father to take her to hospital so she could have her injuries seen to.

Doctors told them they should file a police report at which point they ran away and have not been seen since.

Police are now hunting Bindu who is wanted for murder following Sheikh's death.

Acid attacks are relatively common in India, with around 60 percent of the victims being women.
