Looks like MCA is like a plague and even a Chinese in trouble and no money for lawyer fees refuses MCA’s help. This shows MCA now is totally rejected by the Chinese. Why now help but when the incident happen no help came from MCA.
Its Public Services and Complaints Bureau chairman Jason Teoh says the party has been in contact with her since the incident
JOHOR BARU: The door is still open for Sam Ke Ting, the saleswoman charged in connection with a fatal crash involving ‘Mat Lajak’ cyclists last February, to request for legal assistance from the MCA.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chairman Jason Teoh said that the party had been in touch with her family while she was still in remand over the case.
Teoh, who is also the party’s Gelang Patah division chief, said the party had also pledged to provide legal assistance to the 22-year-old as she and her family are not financially sound.
“At that time we offered her our help and legal assistance but when we made follow- ups it seemed that she and her family didn’t want our assistance,” Teoh told Berita Daily.
He said that no reason was given as to why the offer was not taken up by Sam and her family.
“If she needs our assistance she can come forward and meet with us. We can’t help people who don’t want help,” said the MCA central committee member.
Teoh was responding to news that Sam has turned to crowd-funding to foot her legal bill, taking it to her Facebook account asking for the public’s help to collect money for her court case.
Sam said that she needed RM60,000 to cover her legal fees and only turned to crowd-funding as her last resort.
“Based on the February bicycle tragedy in Johor Bahru, I’ve been involved in traffic lawsuit.
“Considering the case has become complicated as a most unwanted issue in our country, I’ve declined offers from several parties and even the public’s help. But as the pre-trial and hearing begin, the legal fees have exceeded my affordable budget. My family is now facing shortage of funds to defend my case in court,” read Sam’s posting on May 26.
Sam also updated the post saying that she had received the needed amount for her legal fees and had deleted her bank information.
She said that she is grateful to the donors for their generosity.
