UUM lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff says stories and quotations from the Bible in Hannah’s book could influence non-Christians to convert to the religion.

PETALING JAYA: A Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) academic claimed today that an autobiography of Selangor assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh, which he bought, could influence him towards Christianity.
UUM’s Malaysian Institute for Political Studies director Kamarul Zaman Yusoff said this was because the book contained “too many stories and quotations from the Bible”.
“The stories can influence readers, including myself, to feel admiration for the greatness of Hannah Yeoh’s God,” said Kamarul in his police report which was published in PAS’ official organ Harakahdaily today.
Kamarul made his police report against Yeoh in response to an earlier one by the DAP assemblywoman.
Yeoh made her report two days ago after a posting by Kamarul on Facebook describing her as an “example of DAP’s biggest hypocrisy”, and accusing DAP of mixing politics with Christian teachings.
The book, Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey, is an account of the life of Yeoh who rose to prominence after winning the Subang Jaya state seat in 2008 with a huge majority, then retaining it in 2013 before being appointed the same year as the country’s first female speaker and its youngest at age 34.
The book has been openly sold since it was launched in 2014, with no restrictions by the authorities.
Kamarul alleged the book attempted to “coax, influence and instigate” non-Christians to convert or deepen their interest in Christian teachings.
