France and Spain refuse to negotiate with Eta, which is on the EU blacklist of terrorist organisations.
The BBC's Lyse Doucet, in Bayonne, says the ceremony took place in the presence of the local mayor, an Italian archbishop and an Irish priest, and civil society representatives.
The Chairman of the International Verification Commission, Ram Manikkalingam, said he hoped this important step would help consolidate peace in the Basque region.
The pledge to disarm came in a letter obtained by the BBC, confirming earlier reports about Eta's intention to lay down arms.
The letter, dated 7 April, says that "after giving up all its weaponry (arms and explosives) to Basque civil society representatives, [Eta] now is a disarmed organisation.
Speaking on Friday, Spanish government spokesman Inigo Mendez de Vigo said Eta "will get nothing from a democratic state like Spain".
He demanded that the group not only disarm, but also clarify who carried out past Eta attacks.
In recent years, police in France and Spain have put Eta under severe pressure, arresting hundreds of militants, including leadership figures, and seizing many of its weapons
Eta was set up more than 50 years ago in the era of Spanish dictator General Franco. Its first known killing was in 1968, when a secret police chief, Meliton Manzanas, was shot dead in the Basque city of San Sebastian.
What is happening to Malaysia, Kedah should also be a model Islamic
state as PAS also ruled there once? And things happen where PAS have influence. I think the
locals must be listening to these half-baked religious teachers who say can do
this and that wrong things and also sins will be gone once you go to the Haj.
Solve the problem by sending all these half-baked religious teachers to a small
island surrounded by Sharks and make sure throw in some male goats and cows for
then to fuck or they will be fucking each other’s and prostituting each other.
[CRIME] Husband Prostituted His Wife For RM20 To His Friend!
When a man and woman get married, the husband’s duty is to
protect the family especially the spouse! This 69-year-old husband from Padang
Sanai, Kedah prostituted his 63-year-old wife on two occasions for RM20.
According to Padang Terap OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Nasir Jaafar,
the woman was forced to have sexual intercourse on March 21 and April 2 with
the husband’s friend, aged 61. The husband received RM20 from the friend, the
woman said.
As reported by The Star, the husband and his friend have been
arrested and remanded for a week to allow police to carry out further
investigations. The case is investigated for rape and exploiting a person for
purposes of prostitution.
Some guys think that once a girl marries him, he can do anything
with her, including selling her body off for money. This is a crime, no one
should be exploited and sell off their body for someone else!
Nope you are
wrong. The rural Malays if wanted Huduh would have voted PAS instead of UMNO
when country had first General election. The rural Malays are simple and pious
Malays but not stupid. They know God only help those who help themselves and
having Hudud with not make their hard lives better but worse off. They have
children who are in the cities working and studying and are kept well informed
about the treachery of UMNO and PAS in using God’s name in vain. Using God’s
name for own selfish politics and maligned God’s name is a no no. PKR , Prebumi
and Amanah must double their efforts to explain to the rural Malays about the
religious treachery UMNO and PAS are committing in the name of Islam. They are
only furthering the agenda of Satan only
‘Umno,
PAS will use shariah issue to win over rural voters’
Whatever hopes that rural Malays will
support Pakatan are now probably completely gone, says Sarawak human rights
activist Peter John Jaban.
KUCHING: Despite knowing the bill to amend
the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) may damage its
relationship with other BN parties, Umno went ahead anyway as the political
advantages outweigh the drawbacks.
can,” Sarawak For Sarawakians (S4S)
spokesperson Peter John Jaban told FMT in response to Thursday’s abrupt end to
parliamentary proceedings.
House Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia told
reporters today he had exercised his power to adjourn the parliamentary session
at 4pm yesterday (Thursday) instead of the normal time at 5.30pm due to “the
welfare of the Parliament staff” who had stayed up the previous day when the
Dewan Rakyat met for a record 20 hours.
Yesterday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang
filed a motion to table the Act 355 bill, which sought to drastically increase
the punitive powers of Islamic courts.
Shortly after Hadi completed tabling the
motion, it was supported by Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin Hassan, who is also PAS
secretary-general, who then spoke for 90 minutes.
No opposition leaders were allowed to speak
after that as Pandikar called for a sudden end to the Dewan Rakyat sitting that
had begun March 6. Further debate was put off till the next Dewan Rakyat
sitting.
“Umno knows that Act 355 may damage their
relationship with the other BN component parties, especially those from Sabah
and Sarawak, but they went ahead anyway,” Peter said.
Peter, a human rights activist with the
Sarawak Dayak Iban Association, believes it was not Umno’s intention to allow a
debate or the bill to come to a vote despite rushing through the government
bills the night before.
“So it’s important that they avoid an open
debate on the issue. This is why they planned for it to be tabled, where it
went on for two hours without interruption,” Peter said, adding he believed the
bill would be deferred to the next parliamentary sitting in July.
“What will happen until then? The milking of
RUU355 (Act 355). Umno and PAS will use this issue to their advantage with the
rural Malays and some urban Malays, too.
“They can now say that the DAP is anti-Islam, and show videos of how Lim Kit
Siang tried to stop Hadi from tabling Act 355. They will say that PKR is just
as anti-Islam. And Amanah is Pakatan Harapan’s lackey.
“Whatever hopes we had that rural Malays
will support Pakatan are probably completely gone,” he said.
“At the same time, BN component parties will
have nothing bad to say about Umno’s desire to allow Act 355. At least not
openly.
“And so the component parties will keep
singing the (patriotic) Malaysia songs and the (Sarawak Chief Minister) Abang
Johari (Openg) songs that will have a resonance with the urbanites in Sarawak
and Sabah.
“They will continue to vote for the BN
component parties.
“Why change something that they see is working?
The rural parliamentary seats will not vote Pakatan as it has not offered them
anything as an alternative government. Even with BN offering them the bare
minimum, their votes (for them) are already sealed.”
Peter believes by July, Prime Minister Najib
Razak will call for a general election in September.
“No debate will happen in Parliament on Act
355. But he (Najib) has another 69 days to milk the issue with the Malays until
the general election.
“PAS grassroots will feel cheated by Najib.
But their top leaders are well-informed in advance — or perhaps just Hadi and
(PAS Youth chief) Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.
“(PAS deputy president) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan
Man is too honest and too pious; he shouldn’t be kept in the loop. Let him have
plausible deniability so he can campaign on Act 355 to the Malays.”
Peter believes voting patterns may be
sharply divided along racial lines in Peninsular Malaysia.
“Come September, rural Malays will vote BN
or PAS. Don’t be surprised if Umno will not contest in PAS seats.
“Then, Umno-PAS will rule West Malaysia and
BN component parties will rule Sabah and Sarawak. And we can re-live Act 355
again in Parliament after the 14th general election,” Peter said.
Swedish police snared a suspected Isis fanatic following a high-speed chase and arrested him relation to the Stockholm truck attack that saw at least four people killed and 15 injured. The 39-year-old father-of-four was arrested last night in the northern suburb of Marsta after going on the run following the horrific attack. He was found 'lightly injured' and was wearing a balaclava and with broken glass on his clothes. Pictured: the second man being arrested.
Police in Sweden have arrested two men after a lorry crashed
into a Stockholm department store on Friday, killing at least four people.
The first
man to be arrested is being held on suspicion of committing a terrorist crime
by murder.
He was
detained on Friday evening, after police released a grainy CCTV image of a
person of interest, with a second arrest reportedly made later.
Swedish
Prime Minister Stefan Lofven has called it a terrorist attack.
More than
a dozen people were injured.
The
country's borders have been tightened at the prime minister's request.
The lorry
crashed into the front of Ahlens department store in the middle of the
afternoon on Drottninggatan (Queen Street), one of the city's major pedestrian
thoroughfares.
The beer
company that owns the vehicle said it was hijacked outside a nearby restaurant,
where it was making a delivery.
Police shared the
image of the man, dressed in a hooded jacket, early on Friday evening.
They
confirmed a man resembling him was arrested in Marsta, 40km (25 miles) north of
Stockholm.
"We
have investigated several people this evening, who we found interesting in one
way or another, and recently we arrested someone we are very interested
in," said police investigator Jan Evensson, referring to the Marsta
arrest.
He is
being held on suspicion of committing a terrorist crime, the state prosecutor's
office said, and is in prolonged detention, according to a police website.
The
second man, detained in the Hjulsta in the north-west of Stockholm, had links
to the man arrested in Marsta, local media reported citing police sources.
Central
Stockholm was in lockdown after the incident.
In the
immediate aftermath, shoppers took refuge in nearby buildings for hours,
waiting for the area to be secured.
The
central station, which is near the Ahlens store, was evacuated.
The
metro, central roads and various bus lines were also shut.
City
authorities made several spaces, including a number of schools, available as
temporary accommodation for those who could not get home because of transport
disruptions
In a
speech on Friday night, Prime Minister Lofven said Swedish values of democracy
and freedom would not be "undermined by hatred".

Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev denounced Donald Trump for attacking 'the legitimate government of Syria' and for allegedly breaking international law without the approval of the UN. The US President warned he would do it again after unleashing a surprise attack on the Syrian regime with a massive show of firepower. In the first direct American raid on Bashar al Assad's forces, Mr Trump authorised the firing of 59 cruise missiles at a military airfield. Officials said it was retaliation for Assad's use of chemical weapons and would 'deter' further atrocities. The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, said that her country had taken 'a very measured step'. She added: 'We are prepared to do more but we hope that will not be necessary.'
Sad day as India is no longer a tolerant and secular India but
just like its Neighbor Pakistan, run by religious fanatics. It does not matter
if you are Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist or a Jew but when you show
religious intolerance then you are no better than an animal. Just go on do your
inbreeding and screw you own family as this will be much safer. India is a
Religious Time Bomb waiting to explode and when it happens, the whole of Indian
Sub-continent will go up in one big bang like Harappa and Mohenjo Daro by the Wrath
of God. God is almighty and does not need mere mortals to defend god. This is happening in Maalysia and once Huduh RU355 comes into law , the poor cows , goats , dogs and cats will be fucked and raped and as there is no punishment in Malaysian Huduh for raping animals
Mohammad Shalik was set
upon by dozens of people from the town where he lived after he was spotted
dropping off his girlfriend on his scooter near her home.
NEW DELHI: A Muslim man was beaten to death
for dating a Hindu girl in India, police said today, in the latest mob violence
against minorities in the country.
Mohammad
Shalik, 20, was set upon by dozens of people from the town where he lived after
he was spotted dropping off his girlfriend on his scooter near her home in the
Gumla district of eastern Jharkhand state.
The mob
tied him to a pole in front of the girl and lashed at him with sticks and belts
in an ordeal that lasted for hours late Wednesday. He died of his injuries on
Thursday, police said.
“We are
trying to find whether the mob was instigated by the (girl’s) family,” Chandan
Kumar Jha, Gumla police chief told AFP.
He said
three people have been arrested and more were wanted over the killing, which is
being treated as religiously motivated.
The young couple had been together for about a year and had faced threats in
the past, Jha said.
Inter-religious
relationships are still a taboo in India, particularly in rural areas.
The issue
has become a flashpoint for nationalists in recent years, with Hindu extremists
raising fears of “love jihad” — claims that Muslim boys were attempting to
seduce and elope with Hindu girls across the country to convert them.
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi’s right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made claims of
protection of Hindu women a part of their electoral strategy in a March vote in
populous Uttar Pradesh state.
The
latest Hindu mob violence comes less than a week after a 55-year-old Muslim man
was fatally attacked in western Rajasthan state over allegations that he was
smuggling cows, as tensions rose over the slaughter of an animal Hindus
consider sacred.
After a tongue lashing, they allow
entry to NGO representative and lawyer dressed in knee-length skirt she uses to
attend court.
PETALING JAYA: Security personnel at
the Parliament entrance today let a woman through after being sharply rebuked
for harassment when they tried to bar her from entering because her outfit was
considered “indecent”.
Women’s Aid Organisation assistant
treasurer Meera Samanther was told her knee-length skirt, which she usually
wears to attend court hearings, was too short when she tried to enter the
premises.
Meera, who spoke to The Star, was
both stunned and incensed by the moral policing.
“I lost my cool. So I raised my
voice and told him (guard) to stop harassing me.”
Surprised and confused, the security
man let her stride past.
Meera, a lawyer, said a colleague of
hers was similarly harassed by Parliament security personnel when she drove to
the guardhouse for a security pass.
“The security person even peeked
into the car to see what she was wearing and told her to get down so they could
see the length of the skirt.
“This is unacceptable.”
She said security personnel should
focus on actual security threats instead of trying to impose their morals on
visitors.
Parliament corporate communications
head Tengku Nasaruddin Tengku Mohamed said the incident was being investigated.
“Parliament will issue an official
statement soon.”
There have been numerous reports of
government servants at public departments, including even the airport, turning
moral police and refusing entry or service to women they considered
inappropriately dressed.
The subject had been raised even in
Parliament by ministers who wished to know if there was a “moral dress code”
for visitors to government premises.
Minister in Prime Minister’s
Department Azalina Othman Said had said that Putrajaya did not enforce a dress
code on visitors and would entertain all, even those who were dressed
“inappropriately”.
