The travel restriction on SRC International Sdn Bhd managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil appears to have been lifted, according to the Immigration Department’s website.

He was reportedly blacklisted by the Immigration Department on July 22, 2015 following claims by the Wall Street Journal that about US$700 million made its way into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s bank accounts.

ccording to attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali, Najib was said to be unaware that SRC International transferred money into his accounts in 2014 and 2015.

WSJ had also claimed that Nik Faisal held power of attorney over the prime minister’s personal bank accounts.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in August 2015 named him as a person wanted for questioning, along with another SRC director, Suboh Md Yassin and businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low.

Renewed driving licence

By December that year, the MACC managed to record statements from Jho Low and Suboh but Nik Faisal has remained elusive.

Public records showed that Nik Faisal renewed his driving licence in August last year.

Mohamed Apandi in January last year cleared Najib of wrongdoing on the ground that the money was a “donation” from a member of the Saudi Arabia royal family.
However, the case has proceeded in several other jurisdictions including the US, Switzerland and Singapore, where the funds were allegedly laundered through the financial system in those countries.

The US Department of Justice believed the money originated from 1MDB while Swiss authorities believed around US$4 billion were misappropriated from the state fund and associates.

Najib had denied wrongdoing or taking public funds or personal gains.

Nik Faisal’s name had also cropped up in prosecution cases related to the 1MDB scandal in Singapore.

In the case against former BSI banker Yeo Jiawei, who was charged for facilitating money laundering, it was revealed that Nik Faisal approved the transfer of US$11.95 million from SRC International to a company owned by Tan Kim Loong, an alias used by Jho Low.

However, based on information collected from press reports and the DOJ Actions, it appears that billions of dollars have been misappropriated from the 1MDB Fund by friends or family members (including defendants Low and Aziz) of the current Malaysian prime minister (Najib Razak).

Goldman and its top Southeast Asia banker at the time, Timothy Leissner, helped establish the corporate predecessor of 1MDB in 2008, and worked with Mr. Low in his role as an “adviser” to 1MDB.  Between 2009 and 2011, according to the DOJ Actions, it appears that more than $1 billion was improperly diverted from the 1MDB fund to various entities, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that 1MDB “was used by the prime minister as a political slush fund and by associates of his to buy more than $1 billion of real estate, art and other luxuries from London to Beverley Hills, California.”  Many of these highly suspicious asset transfers were funneled through a small, private Swiss bank known as BSI SA (“BSI”), an entity that Swiss regulatory authorities have since effectively shut down because of BSI’s involvement in the misappropriation of 1MDB monies.

uala Lumpur– Deputy President of MIC, Dato Seri SK Devamany told an online news portal today that MIC Women Chief, Mohana Muniandy is not eyeing for Cameron Highlands seat.

“She (Mohana ) is there to conduct the ‘Jalinan Rakyat programme, an initiative by BN’s women’s wing,” he said.

Mohana, has been actively conducting programs at Cameron Highlands for the past months, offering herself to contest there.

Devamany was the MP for Camerons for 2 terms from 2004 to 2013.

In 2013, Datuk Seri G. Palanivel was elected as Cameron Highlands MP and now it has been declared as independent seat as Palanivel was sacked from MIC.

Whether MIC President has consented to Mohana contesting in Cameron Highlands remains a mystery till today.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Part-time model Ng Pei Ven, 19, was today charged with driving under the influence of drugs, and causing death and injury.

She is accused of driving against traffic on March 14 and killing a man on the North-South Expressway.

Ng Pei Ven pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to the offence at the magistrate’s court.

The offence under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and RM20,000 fine upon conviction.

She was represented by her lawyer Parmjit Singh while Razali Che Ani prosecuted.

Magistrate Jamiliah Abd Manap granted Ng RM7,000 bail with two sureties and set May 12 for mention pending the results of a chemistry report.

Ng allegedly drove her car against traffic flow on the highway on March 14 and collided with four other vehicles at KM134 before coming to a halt.

A motorist was killed when Ng’s vehicle hit his car head-on while two other cars as well as a van and a motorcycle were damaged in the incident.

She had tested positive for drugs at the Central Seberang Prai district police headquarters at about 5pm on the day after the accident.

On March 17, she claimed trial to the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or a jail term of not more than two years.

‘Why not a murder charge?’

Meanwhile, the family of Mohamad Fandi Rosli, the man who died when his car was rammed by Ng, has asked why wasn’t the teenager charged with murder, reported New Straits Times.

Fandi’s father Rosli Lin, 57, said the family was expecting Ng to be charged with murder due to the circumstances of the fatal collision.

“It isn’t that we could not come to terms with my son’s death.

“However, we believe she should have been given a heavier charge because this was not a typical accident.

“It was not just any ordinary accident because she (Ng) was driving against the traffic flow, so she deserves to be slapped with a heavier charge as a deterrent to herself and others,” he was quoted as saying in the NST report.

Rosli’s wife, Noor Suriani Ismail, 47, was also reported as saying that they have engaged a lawyer to pursue further legal action against Ng.

“We are seeking justice for the loss of our only son,” she said.

Amidst calls within PAS to sever ties with PKR, Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad warns of the repercussions of any rash decision

KUALA LUMPUR: With calls for PAS to sever ties with PKR becoming louder than ever, Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad has warned of the repercussions for the Islamic party if it makes any hasty decision.

Iskandar said abandoning PKR now would mean losing power in Selangor and allowing PAS splinter Parti Amanah Negara to fill positions held by PAS representatives in the state.

“How can PAS remain in the state government if PAS doesn’t hold any political ties with any of the parties inside the state government?

“Yes, PAS doesn’t have any political relationship with DAP but the state menteri besar is not from that party. Therefore, it’s business as usual in the (state) government,” said Iskandar, who is a senior Selangor state sxco member.

In a WhatsApp reply to Berita Daily, the Cempaka state assemblyman said calls to sever all ties with PKR should be studied carefully before any decision is made.

“Islam forbids us from making a rash decision or act according to our desires,” said Iskandar, a PAS vice-president who is often a voice of reason in the party.

Iskandar was commenting on Subang PAS Youth chief Hanafi Zulkapli’s call for PAS delegates to support a motion to severe ties with PKR in Selangor during the party’s annual meeting next month.

This followed Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s jibe at PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz for his crushing defeat in divisional party elections in Kelantan.

Without referring to Pasir Mas MP Nik Abduh by name, Azmin said, “Ada Tok Lebai nak tawan Selangor, di kawasan sendiri kalah tersungkur”. (A pious man has the intention to take over Selangor but loses heavily in his own backyard.).

It is believed that Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president and Gombak MP, was referring to Nik Abduh’s defeat in the contest for the Pengkalan Chepa PAS deputy chief post in the hands of incumbent Dr Izani Husin.

In defending Nik Abduh, Hanafi reiterated that PAS will take over Selangor, the state which was retained by the opposition in the 13th General Election (GE13) under the Pakatan Rakyat coalition of PKR, DAP and PAS.

“Selangor PAS Youth and Subang division are standing behind Nik Abduh and will take over Selangor.

“We will show Azmin the exit as well as kicking him out from his Gombak parliamentary seat,” Hanafi was quoted as saying in media reports yesterday.

Hanafi also reprimanded Azmin that he only became the menteri besar due to PAS’ goodwill.

Iskandar, however, said Hanafi was just expressing his personal opinion, stressing that any decision to cut ties with PKR can only be decided by the party’s upcoming Muktamar (annual general assembly) slated for April and also the Syura Council.

“But if the Muktamar and Syura Council decide to sever all ties with PKR, Selangor PAS will abide by it although it means that PAS’ positions will be replaced by Amanah,” Iskandar added.

Iskandar said cutting ties with PKR in Selangor would also affect PAS’ strength in the state.

Apart from Subang PAS Youth, two other Youth divisions — Kuala Selangor and Pandan — have also sent the same signal for PAS to end its tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) with PKR.

The Kuala Selangor PAS Youth went a step further yesterday by urging Azmin to sack all PAS excos in the state government.

Under the Pakatan Rakyat banner, PAS made significant inroads in other states in the peninsula apart from its strongholds in Kedah and Kelantan.

PAS, which is now out of the federal opposition front, won an unprecedented 15 state seats in Selangor in GE13, equalling DAP’s 15 state seats. PKR contributed 14 state seats, giving the then Pakatan Rakyat government a two-thirds majority. Selangor offers 56 state seats.

Following the death of Pakatan Rakyat, PAS formed an alliance with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and has been enjoying a healthy relationship with Umno.

Analysts: PAS has no future in Selangor

Two political analysts say PAS is not strong enough to capture Selangor on its own and can only be a ‘spoiler’

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite the bravado shown by PAS Youth in the party’s dispute with PKR in Selangor, two political observers feel that PAS would be the ultimate loser if the spat results in a break of ties.

Prof Dr Ahmad Atory Hussein said there was no way PAS could capture Selangor without the cooperation of PKR.

“I don’t see how PAS can still have a future in Selangor after the next election. It is hard for them to have positions in the state after what has happened,” Atory told Berita Daily.

He was commenting on Subang PAS Youth chief Hanafi Zulkapli’s threat to kick out Azmin Ali as the Selangor menteri besar for showing disrespect to PAS.

“PAS should realise that they are less strong with the emergence of Amanah and PPBM. Now they have to work hand in hand with Umno, which is also facing problems after many of its members joined PPBM (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia),” he said.

Atory added that it was unlikely for PAS or Barisan Nasional to take over Selangor from Pakatan Harapan.

“It is hard for PAS to take over Selangor, especially now that Amanah is with Pakatan Harapan. The same goes for BN after PPBM was created.

“PAS and BN appear to be strong in the media, Facebook and Twitter but in reality they are not as strong as before. Now both PAS and Umno are desperate,” he added.

PAS’ Hanafi yesterday said that Azmin was holding the position of MB due to PAS’ “sympathy”.

“Azmin must realise that PAS has strong grassroots support all over the state, unlike PKR which does not have a strong force to help the party during election,” Hanafi said, as quoted in PAS organ Harakahdaily,

Meanwhile, another analyst Prof Dr Azizudin Sani said that PAS must make clear its stand in Selangor following the dispute with PKR.

The Universiti Utara Malaysia lecturer said that PAS would be seen as an opportunist if it fails to do so.

“Selangor PAS must make a clear stand. If PAS is not part of Pakatan Harapan at the national level, then at the state level they too must state it clearly,” he said.

Asked on the possibility of PAS governing Selangor, Azizudin said PAS would only act as an entity which will split the votes in Selangor.

“It will be between BN and Pakatan Harapan. I think it will be 50-50. PAS will only split the votes in Selangor,” he added.
