How can regular Malaysian citizens improve Malaysia?

By Andrew Yeng, Mensa member IQ164. Shifted 7 cities in last decade. Seek truth.

I am a Malaysian but I have been away for more than a decade. Recently I returned to Malaysia and have been observing a lot about the country.

A lot of the problems that regular Malaysians see about the country are not really problems in my opinion. I think that Malaysia is one of the best countries in the world for the following reasons:

Truly multicultural. Malaysia is the only country that have public holidays to reflect the many religions and culture. Public holidays are important to preserve the tradition and allow for diversity. We may have some discrimination here and there but any country that do not have public holidays to preserve culture will ultimately force all culture/ethnicity to adopt only 1 culture. For example Canada is supposedly a multicultural country yet it only has white culture and Christian related public holidays. All immigrants after 2 generations will lose basically all culture and adopt white culture. Canada is trying its best to be multicultural but it does not have the most important thing to preserve it that Malaysia has.

Truly multilingual. Few countries in the world have the majority of its citizens as multilingual. Many Malaysians are at minimum true bilinguals and many can speak fluent English, Malay, and Mandarin. Some can even speak several dialects. My experience abroad has taught me the importance of language and I will equate 1 language to the equivalent of 1 diploma/degree. That is how useful it can be. Tourists visiting Malaysia have zero communication problems making Malaysia a much desirable travel destination.

Centralized in South East Asia. South East Asia is a hot zone for a good majority of tourists and Malaysia conveniently located in the midst of it. Taking a budget flight to visit a neighboring country is a luxury that almost every Malaysian can afford and few realized that North Americans or Caucasians have to pay top dollar just to cover the cost of the flight to get here. Malaysia is in the hot zone for affordable vacations.
Malaysia has no natural disasters nor in any war. This is something many Malaysians take for granted.

Malaysia is dense but not yet too dense and has lots of land. Therefore property prices hasn’t gone crazy like Hong Kong or Singapore
Malaysia has decent enough infrastructure in terms of medical facilities and private education (this comes at a price unfortunately). I agree that these benefits are costly and not available to all Malaysians. This is definitely a problem, but not yet a major problem because of the next reason.
Malaysia is becoming the best place to live. Look at all the above points, won’t you agree that those points will make Malaysia one of the best places to live? The only thing holding Malaysia back from becoming the best place to live is the corruption here. A lot of Malaysians think that the corruption is a problem, I will educate them by saying that it is the corruption that is saving Malaysia from being too desirable a location. Without the corruption, everyone in the world will want to flock here and settle here. How will that affect the locals? Look at Vancouver. When all the rich foreigners (mainly wealthy Chinese from China) flocked to Vancouver, the locals slowly realized it was no longer a livable city due to the high cost of everything and many are forced to migrate away.

Malaysia is already one of the best places to live in the world and we have so many nice beaches all of which are affordable enough. A trip to Perhentian Island from KL cost me US 13 one way. Malaysia will eventually become the most desirable place to live, but hopefully it will grow slowly. If change happens too quickly, locals will always lose out to the foreigners. In economics, corruption is necessary for a developing country.

After my explanation above, this is what Malaysians can do to make Malaysia a better place:

Stop being white washed. This is the sad truth. Malaysians watch so much foreign films and TV series that they adopt white culture so when they look at Malaysia they view it from the perception of a North American on what Malaysia should be. A lot of Malaysians do not understand Malaysia economy or about the above mentioned benefits I have talked about. Malaysians need to be more self-aware and not be brainwashed. Protect your own culture, not adopt white culture and bring it here.

Stop segregation. A lot of my dates told me that they have never been to a Malay food court their entire lives. Their parents do not patronize Malay food courts so it is only natural that they do the same. I am shocked. I had a date who did not even know what food is offered at a Malay food court. I eat at the Malay food court regularly enough that everyone there know me. I eat everywhere and I enjoy the wide array of cuisines available to me. I have come to earn mutual respect with them. The Malay food court offer quality food at great price and to show my gratitude I am the only person who returns the dirty dishes to the respective stalls.

Stop being too Chinese privileged. Yes this is a thing. I have noticed that a lot of Malaysian Chinese have become Chinese privileged and have a lot of attitude problems. The Chinese dates here are especially bad. Everyone of them has a princess attitude and show no appreciation. They complain about everything and do zero introspection.

Start to read. A good amount of Malaysians feel that education is based on the schooling system. That is correct and incorrect. Formal education is based around schooling and Malaysia education system does leave much to be desired but real education is from oneself. A good 95% of my education comes from my curiosity and reading. Read quality stuff not Facebook viral news or WhatsApp msgs. Read academic articles, good fiction and non-fiction. The level of real education is low in Malaysia due to lack of interest in reading.

One last note. In every country/economy, there is something to be learned. Malaysians complain about corruption yet they enjoy bribing when they receive a traffic violation. Malaysians are also the worst drivers around. I have no problems with bribing because that is how the economy in Malaysia is like. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages, and only the most educated person will see the difference and appreciate what is offered. I do not drive in Malaysia.

Another note haha. Learn from the best. Najib and Trump are both hated leaders and a ton of people love to complain about them. Few realized that there is much to be learned from these people. If they are so terrible, why are they at the top? Clearly they are the ones who have what it takes to be at the top and yet we have regular people thinking that they have the tenacity to reach the top. Manipulation, corruption, sacrificing humanity is sometimes what the victor needs to do if that is what they truly want. Are you willing to sacrifice it all to reach the top? Learn from the best even if they have opposing values to yours because they encompass the philosophy of the strongest. Look up Social Darwinism.
