WAR INSIDE SAUDI ARABIA - Saudis Regret Foolish Misadventure In Yemen

Folks, there is some serious escalation in the Saudi war against Yemen.

It has been two years now since Saudi Arabia launched the Pearl Harbour type sneak-attack on Yemen. After an initial period of 40 days of not retaliating, the Yemenis launched a counter attack and took the war back into Saudi Arabia.

Since then the Saudis have not been able to dislodge a single Yemeni soldier from their own side of the border.

In the air, the Saudis are superior. But on the ground, the Yemenis are supreme.

In desperation the Saudis have resorted to large scale and long distance aerial bombing of Yemen. The Saudis are bombing farms, irrigation canals, roads and bridges to force Yemen into starvation.

The entire world is NOT saying anything or doing anything about this genocide being inflicted upon Yemen by Saudi Arabia.

"The entire world"  means you too, dear reader.

The Palestinian cause, the Rohingya cause, the Kashmiri cause, the Bosnian cause, the Armenian cause - all seem to have had their spokespersons.

But few seem even slightly disturbed at the murder and massacre of the Yemeni people. Shame on you. To their credit the Yemeni people are holding up strongly against the Saudi aggression.

Here is some news from the War inside Saudi Arabia now.

Fierce clashes inside Saudi Arabia Friday, scores of soldiers killed
Houthi troops clashed with Saudi soldiers across three Saudi provinces
Yemen engaged with Saudi troops and mercenaries in Najran, Jizan and Asir.

In Jizan heavy shelling at Al-Tabbah Al-Hamra area
Houthi launched missiles upon Camp Al-Hajjir, Saudi Al-Misyal military base.
in Asir,  Yemeni missiles hit Alb land port and Al-Jawazat customs area.

Saudi suffered heavy human and material losses
Houthi snipers shot dead two Saudi soldiers at Shaja’ in Najran.

South of Saudi Arabia: A Winning card for Yemen

after two years Saudi hardly recovered one territory captured by Yemen
war on Yemen gone deep into Saudi territories

Saudi tried in vain to regain vast areas, cities captured by Yemeni
Yemeni remain in control over all sites, mountains that fell

Yemen captured whole mountain range in Najran

Capture, control mountains and hilltops key for future movement.

fall of first lines of defense for Saudi army and border guards
new defense lines with tenfold weapons and machinery
Saudi invited troops from Gulf states, mobilized Al Qaeda terrorist groups
repetitive Saudi failures and defeats

operations centered on ports of Harad in Jizan, Al-Khadhra in Najran, A’leb in Asir
Yemen destroyed hundreds of military vehicles, large number of mercenaries killed

most famous fighting fronts
destroyed Saudi equipment and mercenaries in Midi
Yemenis expanded into depths of Al-Tewal

Yemen control mountains overlooking Saudi cities, large areas of Kingdom
most notably Jabal al-Dod in Jizan, al-Shorfa and Al-N
Mountains in Najran overlooking Saudi cities, villages in Dhahran Asir.

Yemen did not target any Saudi city nor fired a single shot at civilian homes.
Yemeni forces maintained rules of engagement with Saudi army only.

My comments : The last two lines above are very relevant.
  • Yemen did not target any Saudi city nor fired a single shot at civilian homes.
  • Yemeni forces maintained rules of engagement with Saudi army only.

I have been following this "war" with some interest.  Despite the fact that the war is now two years old and the Yemenis have occupied numerous Saudi villages, towns  and cities inside the Saudi border, not ONCE have the Saudis accused the Yemenis of  killing or ill treating any civilians.

Or of  committing atrocities against captured Saudi soldiers (no ISIS style beheading, burning alive, crucifiction etc).

There have been no reports of the Yemenis looting, raping or doing other behaviours we often see or read about from this part of the world.

The Yemeni troops are behaving in a well disciplined manner.

There are other developments too.  The Yemenis have acquired as well as developed their own missiles with a capacity to reach deep into Saudi Arabia.  Airbases in the Saudi capital of Jeddah have come under Yemeni missile fire in the past year.

The Saudis have reacted by becoming the single largest buyer of American made weapons last year. But the weapons seem to be of little use because the Yemenis keep blowing up Saudi tanks and armored vehicles.

Only the Saudi airforce is escaping unscathed after bombing civilians, hospitals, funerals, farms, irrigation canals and other civilian infrastructures.

Like most Arab countries, Saudi Arabia is tribal and regional.   Tribal and regional affiliations are much stronger than a national Saudi identity.  The country bears the name of a family the "al Saud", hence "Saudi". This is not a national identity.

Hence others who are not of the 'Saud'  will have less motivation to fight and die just to keep the Sauds floating on gold and Lamborghinis.

This is the reason why the Saudis have paid mercenaries from Sudan and other African countries (and one dumb ass country from South East Asia providing 'logistics support') to come and fight this war for them.

Further complicating the matter is the fact that the three border regions (Asir, Najran, Jizan) were Yemen territory until the Saudi invasion and annexation of the area in 1934.

Despite the annexation, the population of Asir, Najran and Jizan has still been the same Yemeni tribes people.  So the people of Asir, Jizan and Najran are not going to rise up in large numbers to fight on behalf of the Saud, against their cousins and brothers from the morning side of the mountains either.

The Yemenis recently hit  and damaged a Saudi  frigate, the Madinah, by  using an explosive laden speedboat. Two sailors were killed and others injured. There has been some speculation that it was a suicide attack but others say that the speedboat was a "drone',  a remotely piloted speedboat which hit its target.

You can see a quick video of the attack here :  https://youtu.be/1kGJ_4aJTbE

In February 2017 the Yemenis fired a Scud missile variant that  accurately hit an army base outside the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The missile had flown about 500 miles and hit its target.

Its been two years now without any victory in sight for the Saudis.  The embarrassment for Deputy Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman and his father King Salman  has gone beyond acute.

I believe there are larger factors in play in the Middle East, including this aggression against Yemen which has now become a War Inside Saudi Arabia.
