IN MAJOR BLOW TO NAJIB & HADI, SELANGOR SULTAN PRAISES AZMIN: ‘I AM FOND OF THE LEADERSHIP OF MY MENTRI BESAR’
SHAH ALAM – Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin
Idris Shah said today he wants a stable state government that does not engage
in polemics and divisive politics.
In his opening address of the first state
legislative assembly meeting this year, he said the state government’s focus
should be on delivering economic and social prosperity to its people.
“Before I end my speech, I would like to state
that politics should not only be about attaining power,” he said.
“Politics in its truest definition is meant as a
platform to deliver good governance to develop the state.
“As for this I want the state government to be
stable and continue to put forward pro-people agendas so as to stay above
polemics and parochial politics,” he added.
In that sense, the Selangor ruler praised the
leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, describing the PKR leader’s
policies as consistent with the needs of the state and its people.
“I would like to say that I am fond of the
leadership of my mentri besar who continues to produce policies that are
pro-people,” he said.
The state controlled by PKR, DAP and PAS
continues to lead in contribution to the national economy, totalling at 26.6
per cent of GDP for 2015, larger than the federal capital city Kuala Lumpur
which stood at 15 per cent.
Selangor is also at the forefront in welfare
policies compared to other states.
Until today, it continues to provide free water
to poor households and recently, Azmin announced a healthcare fund for
lower-income earners.
Last year, Selangor’s cash reserve grew to RM3.9
billion from RM3.26 billion the previous year, making it possible for the Azmin
administration to table a RM3.4 billion budget for 2017, the biggest in the
state history.
Sultan Sharafuddin said he was happy with the
state’s development and progress, and urged the state government to continue
the momentum.
