Blueprint: About 25,000 displaced Indians to get citizenship 

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 23: The Malaysian Indian National Blueprint 2017, which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today, will ensure that about 25,000 displayed Indians get their citizenship

Najib said that he will be overseeing the blueprint and MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam will lead the implementations.

“The government is committed to continue to find ways to for a legal issue, which is documentation and nationality that has been hanging over the Indian community all this time.

“I agree with the suggestion made by Datuk Seri Dr Subramniam to carry out another campaign around the country to create awareness, to identify those whom are facing this issue and to support the application to get the necessary documentation.

“I also agree that a system of special approval be created so that the Home Ministry will be able to assist the Indians that have settled down or born before the year 1957 to get Malaysian Nationality status.

“ This is in accordance to their sacrifice and contribution to the country all this time,” said Najib, who is the Finance Minister, during his speech here at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

Najib added that the documentation and other socioeconomic issues are one of the main reasons there is an increase in criminal activities in the Indian community.

Most youths and students, Najib said, are the once found to being in association to gangsterism.

“This Blueprint in a holistic sense will be able to help us handle these chronic issues,” said Najib.

The Blueprint focues on four major point which are, addressing the foundation issue where they would strive to meet the basic needs of a mordern life, second would be education and nurturing, which will help meet each childs potential.

Followed by Employment and Entrepreneurship, where ones livelihood and wealth would be improved and finally by the Increasing of social inclusion, where a sense of belonging and an identity will be given to them in a multi-cultural Malaysia.

The Blueprint strives to provide the Indian by addressing the immediate deprivation as well as intergenerational social mobility.

Its efforts are also to ensure the gap between the Malaysian Indian community and the national average is “mainstreamed” into all relevant government ministries and agencies becoming part of the target and mission in the long term.
