KEDAH: Dirty Water Will Become A Norm For Domestic Use And Irrigation If The State Government Doesn’t Stop Issuing Logging Licences!!!

Finally! Someone with authority is starting to talk some sense about the whole continuous logging activity that is greatly harming our environment!
Kedah Environment Committee chairman Datuk Dr Leong Yong Kong demands the state government to stop issuing new logging licenses at once! There’s already a massive backlog of approved licences laying around and we don’t need to keep approving more.

There’s pretty much nothing much left to be cleared. And any more clearing will result in water scarcity.
Dr Leong who is firmly claiming that it is his duty to protect the environment said that logging activities near the water catchment areas should be stopped. If the state still wants to continue approving such licences, they will surely have to pay a hefty price in the near future

He is also at the point where he is ready to announce the whole Ulu Muda forest reserve to be a water catchment area to ensure that there would be no more intrusion on that land.

Before water resources are destroyed and dirty water becomes the norm for both domestic use and irrigation, the logging activities MUST BE STOPPED.

Even earlier this year it seems that the Pedu dam’s water was inefficient for the first season of padi cultivating, that they almost had to result to dry seeding but thankfully there was enough rainfall to cover back the lack of water resource.
Dr Leong said that a meeting with respective agencies including the Kedah Forestry Department will be held soon and let’s all just hope that things will end on a more positive note.
