UMNO DATUK A DRUG ADDICT? BAKRI DIVISION VICE CHIEF CHARGED FOR TAKING ‘METH’


MALACCA: A Johor Umno division leader with a Datuk title claimed trial to a drug charge at the magistrate’s court in Ayer Keroh here.
The plea of accused Datuk Mohamed Mustafa Abdul Kadir, 57, the Bakri Umno division vice-chief, was recorded before magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh Tuesday.

Based on the statement of facts, the accused, who is also businessman, had allegedly self-administered a methamphetamine-type drug at the Narcotics Department of the Malacca police contingent headquarters in Bukit Beruang here at 6pm on Aug 1, 2016.
He allegedly committed the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 that could also be prosecuted under Section 15(1)(b), read together under Section 38B of the same Act.

The accused faces a maximum jail term of two years or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, and two years under observation upon conviction.

DPP Shazreen Nadia Saaban  prosecuted, while the accused was represented by Salmi Hamdan Sabran.
The court granted bail of RM2,000 with one surety and fixed April 27 for re-mention of the case.
