Comment on high prices not aimed at mamak eateries, says Ku Nan

The Mamak Restaurants are very influential as they can be a campaigning asset where campaign gatherings can take place and they can underwrite the cost of food and drinks when these political campaigns take place as it is free advertisements and future business.

The minister says he was referring to restaurants owned by various other races as well

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today clarified that his comment on high prices was not aimed at Indian Muslim eateries.

“Coincidentally, I had made the comment at a forum with many Indian Muslims. I wasn’t just referring to the Indian Muslim restaurants, but Chinese, Malay, and Indian restaurants as well,” said Tengku Adnan.

He was reported to have made the comment at the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress’ annual general meeting last Saturday.

“I only asked that they do not practise profiteering,” he said.

Tengku Adnan added that owners of eateries should always ensure that the prices they set are fair.

He was speaking to the media after conducting a meeting with representatives from Indian Muslim non-governmental organisations and restaurants at City Hall headquarters Thursday.

Tengku Adnan said that the representatives raised issues they faced as traders in the capital city, reported The Star.

“They said that the main problem they faced was the high rent in the city. I have informed them that the City Hall will always help them in their challenges,” he said.
