My comments : First of all this fellow is NOT a religious leader. They are graduates of the madrasahs in the villages in India – that often do not have water, toilets or proper plumbing. These people are failures in life.
In India, the cleverest kids will become doctors and engineers. The not so clever will become the businessmen, government workers and other ranks. The lowest rung dumb-dumbs will join the village madrasahs and become like this fellow here.
Minimum qualification for entry is you must know colours (green, red, blue, yellow etc). And you must know sounds (sound of a bell, sound of a cow’s moo, sound of thunder in the sky). If you know sounds and colours you qualify for entry.
His great good luck is that he possibly knew Tamil Muslims in Singapore who employed him to say the prayers at the Masjid Jamia Chulia (which I have attended sometime ago).
The Singapore newspaper is correct in saying that
the phrase was not quotation from Quran

No where in the Quran is there any prayer asking ‘to grant us help against the Jews and Christians’.
Stick to the Quran and everything will be fine.
