The auditing exercises are being
carried out to ensure that cases of stolen weapons do not recur, says Khalid
Abu Bakar.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia
Police (PDRM) and other security agencies are carrying out audit inspections at
all their armouries to ensure that the weapons are in good working order and
not missing.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP)
Khalid Abu Bakar said the auditing exercises were being carried out to ensure
that cases of stolen weapons did not recur.
”We fear that if irresponsible
groups lay their hands on the weapons, then the authorities themselves would be
threatened.
“The 26 rifles belonging to Rela
(People’s Volunteer Corps) which went missing earlier have been recovered while
12 suspects who stole the rifles have been detained and will be charged in
court,” he told reporters after attending the PDRM monthly assembly at Bukit
Aman today.
On March 26, police confirmed that
26 rifles belonging to the Rela were found missing after an audit was carried
out.
Twelve people, aged between 40 and
60, were detained in the northern part of the country, including Rela members
suspected of being involved in the sale of rifles belonging to corps recently.
