When does advertising become annoying?
Apparently, Astro's latest advertising on its Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) has certainly got viewers attention but for all the wrong reasons.
Perhaps its the bright red colour that caused many viewers to react in this way but when Astro started running the promotion last week, many viewers were taken aback.
The red banner pops up every single time you switch channels or check the programming guide so understandbly, many Astro customers are seeing red.
Over the weekend, irate customers took to Astro's social media accounts to vent their frustrations, voicing out their displeasure at the disruptive ads which were shared on lowyat.net forum.
"We don't pay for advertisment. We pay for entertainment," one frustrated customer voiced out while others thought the choice of ad was badly thought out in terms of suitability to the target customer group.
Others had enough after a weekend of flipping through a sea of red banners across all their favourite Astro channels and wanted Astro to remove it immediately or provide an option for viewers to turn it off.
A check on Astro’s Official Facebook page also shows numerous complaints from customers.
The red banner is so intrusive that viewers don't even see what's on it anymore but just register with irritation over seeing the flash of red cutting across what they are paying to watch.
Many can't wait for this particular ad promotion to be over and done with. According to replies given by Astro on social media, this particular ad will run until 24 April so customers will have to put up with it for another week.
While the EPG advertisement slot on Astro is not new, as it has been available since 2016, this latest advertisment by Hotlink has certainly focused everyone's attention on it, for good or bad.
