KUALA LUMPUR: Four men were killed in a shootout with the police after they were believed to have robbed a Chinese national in front of the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM) in Section 10, Wangsa Maju, here today.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said the suspects robbed the victim of RM40,000 when the latter was on his way to the ITBM at 12.35pm.
“The 32-year-old victim was trailed by the suspects from Sri Gombak after he had withdrawn money from a bank as he headed towards the ITBM using the GrabCar service.
“The two suspects approached the victim as he alighted from the car and snatched the bag containing the cash.
“The victim suffered minor injuries on his hand.
“At that time, a team of policemen patrolling the area went to the rescue of the victim.
“A shootout occurred between the police and the suspects. All the suspects were killed,” he told reporters here.
He said the suspects, aged between 37 and 49, comprised three people holding Indonesian passports and one who was a permanent resident here.
Police also found two revolvers and two machetes in the car used by the suspects during the robbery.
According to him, 11 shots were fired in the incident and no policeman was injured.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
